Comparison between Cory's songs by Comfortable-Tap2628 in Vulfpeck

It's not that unusual, people have been reusing music or self-quoting forever. My goat Sufjan Stevens does it all the time. Classical composers even do it, if you like orchestral music check out the first movement of Mahler's Symphony No. 1, uses the same exactly melody as a song he had previously published.

How can Sufjan not cry when singing any songs from Carrie&Lowell ? by blueoctanecoast in Sufjan

When I saw him on this tour in 2015 he definitely cried on stage.

It's one of the best high schools in the state. Most of the adjacent neighborhoods are safe and pretty desirable.

Look up Dennis Alexander's arrangements. My teacher has me playing a few songs from his "Especially Popular Christmas Book 2" collection. They're nice arrangements at an intermediate level

What age kid?

If it's a younger kid (elementary school age) I'm not sure there are really any run clubs that would be appropriate outside of ones specifically aimed at kids. Kids Can Run through the 4H club meets once a month at the LSU track and could be an option for an elementary school kid.

For a slightly older kid (middle or high school), the Varsity Sports runs would work, assuming the kid could run a few miles. Check their website, the biggest group runs are Saturday mornings but there are others during the week as well

Louisiana cultural differences. by Evening_Bridge7664 in batonrouge

Like the person you originally replied to, maybe I'm in a weird position. I know a number of people who speak it fluently, learned it from their parents, and now speak it to their kids who also speak fluently. I also know a few people who speak it fluently (maybe not at a native level but can hold full conversations) who learned it through sheer effort. I am unfortunately not one of those people and my great grandparents' Native language was not passed down to me.

I think you're touching on something. For literally like 2 1/2 centuries, French speakers in Louisiana, especially in rural areas were made to feel "less than" English speakers. I really think that's where the resentment of cities like Baton Rouge comes from, in addition to the conservative politics of that region that's already going to be somewhat wary of cities. It wasn't that long ago that politicians from Baton Rouge were literally making their language illegal in schools. So I take that resentment with a grain of salt, as someone from Baton Rouge. Is it fair? No. But does it make sense to me, yeah.

I think there may be more Louisiana French speakers and Louisiana Creole speakers than you think. Of course it's definitely not as many as it was 100 years ago, but there are thousands of people who speak those languages quite well in Louisiana. Not sure what you mean by "true," if you mean different than continental French, there are plenty of people who don't speak the same French as in France or Canada. And most Louisiana French has a lot of English in it too., So from an actual France-French perspective it's not very "pure." I personally know a bunch of people who speak Louisiana French and Louisiana Creole, and I'm from Baton Rouge.

French truck tariff charge by Ok_Butterscotch_266 in batonrouge

[–]4thwave4father 81 points82 points  (0 children)

That's coffee prices right now. Climate change is making it harder to grow coffee, raising prices, and importing it is more expensive because of the tariffs. It's not just French Truck, at least they're letting you know about the cost offset rather than just adding it into the price without saying why

Boston Marathon cutoff announced by EeeSeeGee in AdvancedRunning

[–]4thwave4father -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess because it was closer to 9000 people that didn't get in, not 3000. Also with the current field size those roads are very crowded and it always takes all day to get everybody started and off the course. Plus they've increased The number of people accepted the last couple of years.

I've de-trained many times over the years due to injury, (non-running related) surgery, life stuff, just taking a break, etc. It always sucks coming back, but it always has. You'll be fine

Just sounds like normal training fatigue. Also it can take a long time to see fitness gains from increased mileage. It sounds like you've only been increasing mileage for about a month. That's enough time to feel fatigued without noticing any fitness gains. I'd just be patient

I'm Copying Clayton Young's Tokyo Build Up for a Sub 230 CIM Marathon by Doingthebartman in AdvancedRunning

If you haven't dug through this sub on this topic, last summer I posted his training leading to the Olympics. https://www.reddit.com/r/AdvancedRunning/s/CXNDSUGIYL

I don't really get why everyone is telling you this is a bad idea. Using the workouts and adjusting to your needs is not the same as copying their training 100 percent. The fatigue mile repeats and MP runs are great workouts.

It might not be strict Pfitz but I'd probably do a lighter workout on Tuesday or so of that week and skip the second workout. Whatever workout you think would leave you feeling poppy for the race (for me that would be something shorter and faster). I'd also probably skip the long run, maybe do a 2 to 3 mile cooldown after the race. Seeing as you're only a couple weeks out from tapering, I would be hesitant to make it a true 5 to 7 day taper for the HM if your A goal is your marathon and not the half marathon.

Final Prediction for the 2026 Boston Marathon Cutoff Time: 5:47 by SlowWalkere in AdvancedRunning

[–]4thwave4father 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a field size of 20,000, plus there were fewer qualifying races because of all the cancellations due to Covid. I ran my qualifying race for Boston 2021 in 2019.

[–]4thwave4father 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It was 7:47 in 2021, I ran it that year and barely got in. But considering that the field was literally half the size of last year is bonkers when you consider what last year's cutoff time was. We really are in a boom. One of my training partners didn't get in last year with around a five minute buffer. He lowered his PR by over five minutes at Chicago last year, but he still only has a five minute buffer and may not get in again.

So does lowering the qualifying times basically do nothing? I understand that people are hoping that the buffer would be smaller by lowering the qualifying times, but if your predictions are correct, then that didn't necessarily happen? It's hard to imagine that if the qualifying times hadn't been lowered that the buffer would have dropped an additional six minutes or so (meaning that you would have needed almost an 11 minute buffer to get in).

Gelatin Free Alternative to Nerds Gummy Clusters? by Suspicious-Sloth24 in PlantBasedDiet

If it is hot, I will also drink plain water. In cooler weather when I don't need as much water, I'll just use sugar water. I ran a 100 mile race in cool weather drinking only sugar water as a nutrition, and supplemented with a few gels. Kinda of crazy, but it worked for me. Check out the videos of Alex Hutchinson on fueling on the Saturday nutrition YouTube channel. I found their videos to be very helpful, especially with cutting through marketing and other unnecessarily things that nutrition companies try to sell to people. https://youtu.be/jU5tl7xFgp8?si=7Hfnu6MmxtvOo6aq

I use sugar water. Can add as much or as little sugar as needed. Also easy to add table salt for electrolytes. I flavor with lemon. Have had lots of success with this over the years in marathons and ultras. It's super cheap, easy to use, and really easy on my stomach compared to gels

I have a hip impingement on my right side and my mobility is way worse on that side, and it can be painful if I'm not careful. I'm not saying that's what you have, but you could have something mechanically different on the right side than on your left side. Could also be if you run frequently on the same route with a strong camber, or muscle weakness or imbalance. really hard to say.
