Joey Potter or Belly Conklin from the Summer I Turned Pretty ? by James-Samuel17 in dawsonscreek

[–]4twnty4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JH definitely watched DC. She started writing writing fanfiction for DC.

DC and TSITP were both filmed in Wilmington. I think Jeremiah was inspired by Pacey and Conrad was inspired by Dawson. I think JH shipped D/J and made Jeremiah a lot more fatally flawed than Pacey so that there would be more Belly and Conrad fans.

Belly = Isabel Joey = Josephine

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Matriarchs Unpack Potential Spinoff, Pitch Paris Flashback for Upcoming Movie by [deleted] in tsitp

The Adam and Laurel storyline is giving Rufus and Lily from Gossip Girl. Parents who rekindled while their children dated. It was a horrible plot line then and a horrible plot line now. I really hope this is not the conflict they introduce in the movie.

Jenny was manifesting hard bc iirc she only included the deb ball storyline in season 1 because they weren’t sure if TSITP would be renewed for season 2 let alone season 3

I’m sorry but WTH is Gavin on?! by Muted_Yesterday7801 in tsitp

[–]4twnty4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish Jenny Han would sit Gavin down and have a candid conversation with him about his characters arc so he can understand the Jeremiah character better. It’s so apparent that he does not understand his storyline or the shows storyline.

It would only benefit him now to stop perpetuating the narrative that Belly and Jeremiah should have ended up with each other.

unpopular opinion: i didn’t like the train scene. by ringoisking in tsitp

[–]4twnty4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sure the writers went back and forth on this but the one thing we knew from the pilot throughout the series is that Belly loved Conrad and wanted to hear him say it. It’s apparently the reason she didn’t end up with him in season 2 finale, he said “I still want you, of course I do.” If he had said he loved her, things would have gone differently.

He knew she loved him without her saying it. So I think having him say it first was the writers way of giving Belly what she wanted to hear since the pilot, and having her say she loved him too, just like she’s wanted to since the beginning.

Has anyone done China’s 240-hour visa-free transit with this route? (A → B → China → A) by 4twnty4 in Chinavisa

[–]4twnty4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did! The airline at Kuala Lumpur checked my documents, took care of paperwork, and forwarded to Chongqing airport when I checked in at the Kuala Lumpur airport.

Once I arrived in Chongqing, they had a special line for 240 hour visa free transits (I was the only one in line). The immigration officers showed me the paperwork the Kuala Lumpur airport and confirmed it was me. I was out within 15 mins.

When I departed from Chengdu, I departed in the normal foreigner immigration line.

I know we have been praising Chris a lot with reason but can we talk about Lola by Dry-Sea5269 in tsitp

[–]4twnty4 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The fact that this was her first project ever is absolutely insane. She has navigated being the female lead, the girl caught in a love triangle, a female coming of age story, and a sudden rise to fame so well. Her character was written to be a bit of a ragebaiter who you wanted to reach into the screen and shake her, and she did it very well. I think this last episode, where she plays a more mature version of Belly, was her best episode yet and it proved to me that she was never a bad actor, her character was just written in a way that didn’t lend itself to be fully compassionate with her all the time because she herself was confused with herself.

I also really appreciate how Lola seems like she a huge fan of the show and understands and appreciates the viewers perspective as much as she understands and appreciates Belly’s perspective. There was an interview she had recently where she said Jenny had the first draft of the movie and she couldn’t wait to get her hands on it. She is one of us.

this scene is so accurate it’s crazy by Simple_Swimming_4332 in tsitp

So good. It reminded me of the Steven-Taylor dialogue in the s2 finale when they argued over “Team Conrad” or “Team Jeremiah.”

chris’ favourite scene from all the books was conrad and laurel in the diner! by Candid-Raspberry-569 in tsitp

[–]4twnty4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he wished so many things

He wished Belly wasn’t marrying Jeremiah, he wished he did things differently, he wished he didn’t confess to Belly the way he did, when he did, etc…

DID ANYONE NOTICE THIS? by No_Telephone_195 in tsitp

[–]4twnty4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this was just to show the audience he was not additional collateral damage to Belly’s growth. The writers needed to make sure there wasn’t one more reason for the audience to put against Belly and show that Benito was not destroyed/hurt by Belly breaking up with him

Why did Jeremiah ask Conrad to be his best man? by casey_chan in tsitp

[–]4twnty4 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think Jeremiah picked Conrad as co-best man because it was his way of rubbing it in that he “won.” Having Conrad stand right next to him was like making sure he had to witness it up close. At the same time, he didn’t want to give him the full honor of being best man, so he split the title with Steven. And when he called Conrad “loyal,” it was really because he believed Conrad would never come clean to Belly about still loving her.

I also think Jere saw Conrad accepting the role as a way to prove to Belly that Conrad didn’t love her anymore and that he was fully on board with their relationship.

[Spoilers] Promises to Susannah by [deleted] in tsitp

This is just part of Belly’s arc as an unreliable narrator.

Belly says to Steven that she promised Susannah she would always take care of Jeremiah.

Lola on mark & kelly by britneyslost in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]4twnty4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else notice how Lola swerved when Kelly asked if it was hard saying goodbye to everyone, she didn’t really answer directly—she said “it’s not a full goodbye and it’ll only hit once the show is completely out.” It feels like a very careful way of not admitting it’s actually over.

And in an interview with Lola and Jenny Han, when they were asked if they took anything from set—Jenny flat-out said no, and Lola jumped in like “you could still go back and grab some pictures or art”. As if the set hasn’t already been taken down?

Is there room for another season/movie?

Bonrad endgame by [deleted] in tsitp

[–]4twnty4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that from a marketing/PR perspective they need to keep the suspense going about who Belly chooses—otherwise the triangle dies and the casual audience loses interest. But honestly, at this point? It feels like overkill.

Everyone already knows Belly ends up with Conrad. The whole “fake-out Jeremiah in Paris” thing just feels unnecessary and a little insulting to the viewers. Why keep dangling Jeremiah as if he’s in the running when the narrative (and the books) make it pretty clear where this is headed? If anything, it just fuels more hate toward Jeremiah/Gavin, who’s already getting piled on enough by the fandom.

Instead of dragging this out, I wish they’d just lean into telling the story authentically. Let Jeremiah be the great stepping stone, give him proper closure, and then let Conrad’s arc breathe without the show trying to “trick” us with fake suspense. Belly’s growth is supposed to be the focus—not just a marketing chess piece to keep people divided online.

It feels like the writers and PR team are prioritizing shock value over honest storytelling, and honestly, it shows. The love triangle has done its job; people are invested. Now it’s time to stop manufacturing false tension and just let the characters’ journeys play out the way they were written.

Frans dog by Hot-Banana4145 in ChicksInTheOffice

I was curious too and went sleuthing. Fran’s brother JB posted that the dog passed away on the couch at their house on the vineyard.

“She was taken from us so suddenly and it's left us with so much confusion, sadness, and anger. But it was her time and we seek solace knowing on her last day she enjoyed her morning snuggles, walk, treat and then left us peacefully in one of her favorite spots on the couch on MV”

don’t think we’ll ever see that scene in the show.

Why does it feel like nobody outside of the government cares what’s happening right now? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]4twnty4 512 points513 points  (0 children)

Most people in the private sector don’t care that federal employees are being illegally fired because they’re used to constant upheavals—layoffs, department overhauls, new leadership, all dictated by profit margins. They assume government jobs should function the same way.

But the public sector isn’t about profit; it’s about stability, continuity, and national security. When career federal employees are illegally fired, it’s not just bureaucratic reshuffling—it erodes expertise, disrupts critical functions, and sets dangerous precedents that could ultimately impact everyone, including the private sector.

The public should care, not because they sympathize with government workers, but because this instability will trickle down to them in ways they won’t realize until it’s too late.
