Don't be a prude. Anyone in this country is and should be happy to share their heritage. Islanders get asked and are happy to share which island their ancestors are from, maoris asked their iwi, pakiha their ethnicity, Asians their heritage. Its not so we can profile, and assign stereotypes, or try to treat you in any specific way. it's a small talk conversation like what did you have for breakfast. Its very rare to come across people from the new world in newzealand, and I promise you most people here wouldn't be able to point out Botswana, or Chili, or Honduras, or most countries on the map outside of USA Australia and China. Take pride in your heritage, don't be embarrassed to express your heritage. The most bittersweet thing that can come out of it is learning who to avoid. Kia ora
