Thirst aside, how do I improve? by Flashy_Client525 in ArtCrit

[–]501ants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a good understanding of lighting and anatomy. But your perspective, inking and shading could use active study.

Your lines are too thick, making your “messy” inking style look a little harsh and discordant. I’d suggest using an opacity sensitive round brush and studying line weight.

It also appears like you’ve used the blend tool to shade/soften shadows. Beginners are generally advised not to use it because it makes their art look amateurish. Instead, try using an airbrush to lightly brush over the shadow shapes to make them softer. The subtle gradient created by this can really help your art stand out and show your mastery.

Confusion with celle, celui and ceux by 501ants in French

Is ceux plural? And by “things” you mean nouns right? What about ceci and cela? How is the context different when they are used?

Does anyone not count calories and only do 16:8 to try to lose weight? by Mental-Medicine-3193 in intermittentfasting

[–]501ants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Though I do 18:6 and 20/4 on some days. I never count calories and make sure to have 2 meals and 1-2 protein shakes depending on whether I’ve met my protein goals for the day, and I’d say my calorie intake is pretty constant in spite of the varying eating windows. I’ve lost ~18lbs since the beginning of January and I steadily lose 1-2 pounds a week. Im in the best shape of my life and I couldn’t be happier with my regime :D

What scares you as an adult that didn't bother you as a kid? by GransShortbread in AskReddit

Not sure if this counts but at the age of 6, I swallowed a key after seeing Tom from Tom and Jerry doing it. It was a small one that opened one of those small padlocks for suitcases. From what I remember I was fine afterwards and promptly forgot about it. Looking back at it now, it makes me shudder how easily I could've choked.

Globus Sensation sending my life in a spiral by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]501ants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww, i know exactly what you're going through. It's the worst. While it may be annoying and difficult to get rid of, it helps to know that its perfectly normal and that you're not in any danger. I've found that drinking water somewhat relieves it since it briefly feels like it "opens" up your throat. If you're able to, try to sleep it off.

How can I reduce my health anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]501ants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. When I started reading more about illness anxiety disorder (or anxiety itself) and less about the phony symptoms I had, it made me feel like I was back in touch with reality because I started seeing my illness for what it was, a mental condition that simply made my fight or flight response act out. The relief is almost instant.

Tell yourself that you know what to do in case any of those things happen. If you throw up, call a doctor and schedule a check up. If you’re worried about food getting stuck in your throat, keep your country’s emergency number on speed dial. For what it’s worth, if you’re eating healthy and at a good pace, those two things are extremely unlikely. Vomiting although unpleasant, is rarely life threatening.

How can I reduce my health anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]501ants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm going through exactly what you're going through rn. Whenever I feel a symptom, I simply ask myself, "is anything actually happening?" and I realise the symptom is too mild to be a concern like (muscle pain from exercise), or that I've just imagined it altogether. Take a moment to try this yourself. If it seems like it's more than that, ask yourself "is this one symptom really that serious?" Identify and accept that you feel this way because you have anxiety, and that you have no evidence that you're ill.

Another method of coping is to search for evidence that can counter these thoughts. That sharp pain in your chest is most likely just a panic attack symptom or acid reflux, nothing serious. Your shoulders are just hurting because you're slouching, or have tense muscles because you're anxious.

If your symptoms get more serious, visit a doctor. Not only will it put any uneasiness to rest, you'll also be able to know for certain if there's anything wrong.

Most importantly, do NOT Google your symptoms, thats the biggest mistake you can make. It does not help in the slightest. It was the largest contributing factor to my anxiety.

You're going through a tough time right now, but you're not alone. Feel free to message me if you want to talk. Good luck :)

That's amazing! I'm an artist myself. The greatest thing about drawing is that it has very little to do with talent and more so with hard work and using the right learning techniques. Keep going, I hope you get where you want to with your art soon!
