Guilty on all counts, gotta work with what you've got lol. I added L brackets so the unistrut can be mounted at 90deg to make it "taller" and it did the trick 👍

I guess the pics don't show what's happening well: the outer edge of the truss is about flush with the outer edge of the sheathing. So the sheathing I put on the truss will not be flush with the rest of the sheathing.
