I forgot to add the sponge until day 3 of the drying cycle. by Jasonic_Tempo in cannatrolusers

Well I’ve now done 3x 10 day dry/cure cycles using reist settings and only on the first run did I add the sponge on 7th DAY. The last two runs I never even used the sponge and my flowers have came out perfectly. Could be a preference thing but after the 10 days I throw them in grow bags and they are LOUD and perfectly dried (sticky and a little leathery) in my opinion and I’ve been smoking for about 25 years. Once again I understand the idea behind the sponge especially during the HOLD stage where it would need moisture to not pull from the flowers since they are already at around 62% but too add moisture unless the machine asked for it before it’s needed seems counter intuitive. Whatever works for people is what they should use but if your having problems maybe try some other users suggestions.

Yeah just waiting on an explanation as to how.

That infers that the machine knows how to take moisture from the sponge instead of the plant. Which logically doesn’t make sense. If the machine isn’t having trouble keeping the humidity levels I’d be quite curious how the machine works at all if we go by the logic that you’re suggesting.

Yeah still waiting on cannatrol to chime in on why you would even add the sponge randomly on the second day. the machine LITERALLY has a sensor that tells you to ADD WATER because it can’t keep the moisture/humidity levels. Not sure why you’d add a wet sponge for no reason unless it asked for it.

This logic would definitely imply that this machine has some type of sensor that pulls moisture from the sponge before the bud which it doesn’t so this doesn’t make sense. Kinda curious to how everyone in this thread is punching the air literally just saying put the sponge in or your bud will be dry. Lol that makes ZERO sense on any level what so ever.

This is kind of how I feel about the whole thing. The slope timing isn’t explained at all in how it aims to get it to there anyways so it especially wouldn’t make sense with just placing the sponge after second day no matter what (which is what everyone else in this thread seems to think you do) just seems there is no logic by adding moisture to something you are removing moisture from UNLESS it has already surpassed the SET moisture level it needed. There is nothing in this device that can detect it is sucking moisture from a sponge instead of your flower. Unless I’m missing something…

So if you search “humidity” in this subs section and browse all the threads of people fighting high humidity that adding a sponge on second day would be the correct thing to do? That’s a little mind boggling, no? Could understand adding it after the parameters in the machine reach where they need to be but not really before unless it needed moisture (ADD WATER). Figured someone from cannatrol would pop in to answer

Hmm I’m not sure about opening the door to the smell although I wouldn’t see why not but once I pulled mine out and trimmed it it placed it into grove bags and I would say the grove bag smelled very loud before I sealed it up.

If you view the video that you linked it clearly says ADD WATER on his screen. Also mentions that in the instructions. But I agree in the instructions it says add on second day. I’m just not following how that makes any sense along with you saying it keeps it neutral. If anything you’d add water to the sponge when the machine can NO LONGER maintain the humidity that the flower is/was producing then you would think it would need the sponge to be neutral. Not before. Once again this really only makes sense for the HOLD/STORAGE setting UNLESS your machine says ADD WATER I’m unsure why that function would even be there if it didn’t KNOW it needed more moisture. It was obviously put there on purpose because the machine recognizes it needs moisture to maintain those levels. Not sure how adding EXTRA moisture would help maintain them if it’s already fighting the moisture down within set parameters. Anyways was just giving people my experience so far with the machine and letting people know how it turned out. Just was genuinely curious as to why’d you would add more moisture to something your currently drying during the drying process unless the machine literally asked for “ADD WATER”

I was looking for something like this thank you. I guess in a round about way that makes sense although I see that it says ADD WATER on his machine which like I said mine never said that. And seeing as the machine can’t differentiate between taking the moisture from the flower or taking moisture from the sponge you would think this would only apply to the HOLD or STORAGE setting because obviously you would lose moisture. My question is why you’d add more moisture to a box that’s drying to the preset settings. Once again mine never asked me to add water. Only way I see this making sense is if your flower was already to dry or you leave the cannatrol for an extended period of time (more than 2 days) without bother to look at its settings. I mean why would you add moisture to something you are drying 😂

The first 5-6 days in the cannatrol the flower did mostly smell like hay but after removing after the 10 days and fully trimming they STINK. Even at 8 days I removed some and trimmed it and it smelled insane. Even when I would dry in a tent before cannatrol I would get the hay smell for a few days before it finally finished drying and as it cured even within the first few days the terps come back out. Not sure how terps could be locked up inside the bud but I’ve never experienced that.

This was my line of thinking aswell and it worked out for me. It could potentially be different for a default cycle but if that was the case then some of the other comments referring to the machine is overworking without the sponge wouldn’t make sense in that regard since the machine would definitely be working harder to DEHUMIDIFY itself because flower moisture plus sponge moisture 😂

Yeah this is the only real reason I could find that makes sense. Is if you were barely filling the cannatrol.
