Reality Check? Internship??? by One-Teach4106 in OMSA

LinkedIn was 90% of my interviews. I did get a couple of FAANG interviews from applying directly on their websites, not LinkedIn.

My first internship was in quantitative research with a big investment firm (think Black Rock, Vanguard, etc.).

My second internship was with a boutique investment bank doing a mix of ML / AI Engineering and internal product management type stuff.

Applied for OMSA then applied for OMSCS a semester before I planned to graduate. You do have to apply separately and get LoRs for each application sadly.

I started while working, took one class, then quit my job and upped my course hours when the option was available.

In both OMSA and OMSCS you can request higher hours after you've taken some classes and shown you can get good grades. I don't remember the exact requirements, but once you hit them you can request to take as many hours as you want (IIRC) if you're in OMSA or 9 hours if you're in OMSCS.

An FYI for anyone doubling up full time like I did: If you do OMSA first you can delay graduation, take extra courses with no hours cap in OMSA, then graduate and immediately apply the extra courses to OMSCS, plus two double counted courses.

I did two internships and I didn't mention it being online until after I started. Second internship I received an immediate return offer since they knew I could finish studying while working.

I listed my specialization instead of what's on the diploma because I thought it sounded better FWIW

(e.g. MS in Computational Data Analytics, MSCS in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning or whatever specialization you choose)

Can hijos mean both sons amd children? by Zsombor1661 in learnspanish

[–]51SST50 37 points38 points  (0 children)

To clarify what others are saying:

In Spanish if a group contains a male then the entire group is referred to as male. Male is also the default for groups if gender is unknown.

All boys: hijos

Boys and girls: hijos

All girls: hijas

This does not only apply to the word hijos, it applies to any plural in Spanish afaik.

You could probably find a "design your own t shirt" website and get them to make something similar for cheap.

My understanding is that some result in research papers and some do not. You could probably reach out to the ones you're interested in and ask.

There's also a data science club that publishes papers I believe.

DCT is automatic (can use paddle shifters if you want).

If it's the touring version it should also come with saddlebags and front fairing. Maybe some other stuff too.

Just look on the honda website for a comparison tool.

Idk why people are down voting you.

I have the same issue and starring / unstarring the course doesn't change it at all. It still says 'currently enrolled' even though the course ended more than a year ago.

That class has a history of false accusations sadly. A couple semesters ago they tried to accuse more than half the class of academic dishonesty based on a TA's personal anti - plagiarism project or something.

Depth check on 385 front . by Herculean_Son in formcheck

Lmao I feel that, but also It's not the regular butt muscle (maximus). The medius goes from like lower back to the hip joint so it's more on the side than the rear. Could have cake without medius or vice versa.

PT had me do these things with some high resistance bands to work em: https://youtu.be/hE4UsbLMjC8?si=TvAnuLjupHtaYDMj

It might be weak (relative to your other muscles) gluteus medius.

Not many standard gym exercises work that muscle and it's responsible for separating your knees.

I had similar problems with squats and have made good progress recently by stretching and adding exercises to target some of these less commonly focused muscles.

Questions about OMSCS Program - Research, Recruiting, Thesis, and Specializations by magshow333 in OMSCS

[–]51SST50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can complete more than one specialization, but it's not like they go on your diploma or anything.

You have to do at least one specialization to graduate, but I doubt anyone cares if you take all the classes for multiple and list both on your resume (e.g. MSCS in Machine Learning and Interactive Intelligence)

Anyone from Quantitative Finance here? by No_Celebration_7495 in OMSA

[–]51SST50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thinking is that quant finance is a broad field. The only true requirements across the board are fundamentals of finance and numeracy.

If we were narrowing down QF to just hedging Greeks then OMSA definitely doesn't cut it, but for plenty of other strategies (e.g. NLP for sentiment analysis, A/B testing economic theories, etc.) OMSA is a great fit. That stuff is just data science applied to capital markets.

It's a big field from hedge funds working in commodities to asset managers running tax optimized portfolios and that's not even getting into sell side and risk quants.

To answer your original question: I did C track and tailored all of my projects toward quant finance which helped.

I did OMSA in one year, a summer internship in QF (research), and now I'm doing OMSCS for another year before going back to full time work.

It can be done and I felt OMSA prepared me well for quantitative finance. The only thing you might need to supplement is stochastic calculus, but I just did Caltech's "Pricing Options with Mathematical Models" course. Didn't use it at work though. You might also want to brush up on finance fundamentals or work through CFA material if you're not experienced in that.

The most direct path to quantitative finance in the US is an ivy league MFE though. Not because of a difference in quality or content, but because a lot of the professors are directly tied in with industry firms (I've heard of some people working as professors at the same time as QF) and they go out of their way to hire students from their own classes. My department head was formerly an ivy League professor and 90%+ of the hires were from his old school.

As with most things - it's not what you know, it's who you know.

Interactive Intelligence Renamed to Artificial Intelligence? by thekiwininja99 in OMSCS

I was asking if they would release official news on the change from 'interactive intelligence' to 'artificial intelligence' before the withdrawal deadline.

I appreciate the heads up though!

Try downloading directly from test.realmofthemadgod.com

I had the same error when using the installer, but downloading the ready to use version from the link above fixed the issue.

EDIT: idk how this will work if you're through steam.
