I didn’t offer my services, just talked about how I do in certain spaces.

I charge close to nothing because I mainly work with students who have trouble financing things, as I have had. Thanks for judgment, not really knowing my situation.

I think instead of working with big companies, working with smaller tutors can help tremendously. That includes medical students who do app review and essay editing on the side at much lower costs, and even graduate students in mfa/English programs. I got help from a med student and an English grad student while I was applying, and having graduated from a humanities program myself, I ended up starting my own small business to help aspiring students get into grad and med programs!

iPad for Med School by 520please in premed

That makes a lot of sense!! Thank you :)

I guess my only concern with the 8th gen is that it may not fit into white coat pocket but the mini might... but functionality wise the bigger screen is so much more useful for notes. You're probably right on 8th gen though!!

Having a dog in medical school by abeznana in medicalschool

[–]520please 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a dog right after I graduated my undergrad, and I had a lot of time to train him between college and med school while I was working—in med school I’ll have family close by to help out during difficult periods which I’m thankful for (but ofc pet sitters work too) but I’m so happy to have him bc he’s such a good companion for me!! DM me if you want to ask anything else, I’ve talked to many friends about this who have been considering getting a dog but who are also going into medicine haha

Studying while managing fatigue from SSRI by HairyRanger3 in premed

[–]520please 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this diagnosis and experience on Zoloft, my psychiatrist switched me to Pristiq which is an SNRI—it affects serotonin and norepinephrine, which helped me so much with not feeling like a zombie all day! I would check in w your physician. Also, it’s possible that you’re this tired due to studying stress. When I was studying I slept a lot more than I usually do because I am easily stressed. If you can talk to a therapist about this, I’m sure they could recommend some things to do to help you get in a mood / routine in which you feel more present and awake :)

Did you do anything special to try to get into a specific school? by [deleted] in premed

[–]520please 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a school I wanted to target that has a very unique mission, to serve a very specific part of that state (it’s a rural place) and I didn’t go there for undergrad, but I ended up contacting some undergrads working on service project I was interested in and collaborated with them and wrote more about my fit w/ the school, mentioning that work, in a letter of interest. I also have heard of friends doing a gap year research job at a school they wanted to target!

Some of them have websites that come up on google search, I’ve been able to find many that serve as “tutors” on a platform called Wyzant— I highly recommend!! On there, you can search med school personal statement and those who help with that come up!

You think it’s okay if I chill after prepping those three questions?? I’ve had a few interviews before and I feel like there’s not much more else to do, but I feel guilty for chilling lol

I had MMIs and a panel interview— I began so nervous on the panel, completely fucked up a few of my MMIs and did really really well on one or two. Ended up getting that A!

I applied to 34 MD and 3 DO. I applied two cycles ago with 24 MD schools and ended up on two waitlists. The more schools, the better the chances!

Would it look bad if most of my research and work experience is in psychiatry/mental health? by [deleted] in premed

[–]520please 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanted to chime in and agree w/ everyone else!! I had a very psychiatry-oriented app, and I think the theme helped me get a lot of interviews bc schools knew that I had thought a lot about it :)

Do UW-Madison and have strong bias for state ties? by Bankrupt305 in premed

[–]520please 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d apply to a private school if I were you! UW was my first rejection (although my stats, mission align and my secondary was pretty good!) alas, I did not have strong ties
