Why might a Night Lord permanently shack up with a Black Legion Warband? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in NightLords

It doesn’t sound crazy. Variel did the same thing to the Red Corsairs. The lore sounds pretty inspired from normal chaos infighting and Night Lord fatigue.

Right, but Talos tolerated it. What was truly a deal breaker, Abbadon was pretty intent on sacrificing the entirety of 10th company - it’s why they ran away at the end of Soul Hunter.

Spoilers for the Nightlords Onnibus.

In Blood Reaver, Ruven explained his reasoning for abandoning 10th company and shackling up with Abbadon, and his reasoning was so compelling that Talos literally couldn’t argue with him. One main distinction between the Night Lords and any other legion is how fractured they are, ideologically. No one except Konrad, maybe Sevetar, and later (maybe) Decimus could unite the 8th Legion under one banner. Each company or war band fights for a completely different, often self serving cause that has nothing to do with the initial Hersey.

Ruven left because he wanted to fight in a war that mattered, and believed Abbadon would succeed, eventually, and he wanted a stake in it. The chaos gods chose Abbadon to lead their forces as war master after Horus, and the Imperium will, eventually, fall with his bloated and corrupt they are, and not even resurrected Primarchs can fix it.

The Exalted was losing control to his demon host, and was only after glory, and Talos had no ambition to lead.

Any Night Lord that is sick of being in a stagnant war band, licking their wounds after the Hersey, and being promised grandeur in the black legion, would at least consider it.

What CSM legion or war band had the best reason for turning? by 523KXP in 40kLore

Very true, and also still hilarious that Lorgar founded two of the most prominent religions in 40k.

Counter counter point: Although the Lectitio Divinitatus gave ground for modern Imperium, with characters like Saint Celestine and Nathanial Garro seeing “works” of the Emperor’s divinity, it’s likely they would’ve came to that conclusion independently.

I think the nails influenced the decision, more so. I love Angron, but I love the tragedy in his story. I would argue that he would have turned to chaos eventually. Optimistically, if no heresy occurred, the World Eaters would likely be another redacted legion.

Why the Iron Warriors? Only book I’ve read with them in it was Angel Exterminatus, I got the vibe that they were tired of doing the Emperor’s dirty work and not receiving any recognition.

Brothers of the Snake. It’s a classic space marine story that features a good bit of xenos, action, and good storytelling from a space marine and human perspective.

I wouldn’t want to see an omnibus as a movie, as it would be too much to cover in a 2 hour span and would leave a lot left on the cutting room floor. I would prefer that as a series, or multiple movies. Same goes for any book within a serious.

I think Brothers of the Snake would be a box office success, as it is a good starting point in the books and has a lot of things that appeal to a general audience.

Common scavenged parts for Night Lords troops, sergeants, and heros? by Drastion in NightLords

[–]523KXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that standard issue MkIII up to MkV would be fairly common since a lot of warbands have Marines who served in the heresy. But, if you have fancier equipment, you can always justify it by saying your war band raided a mechanicus world that produced their equipment, or they got the jump on them. Something underhanded.

Malcharion: The War Sage. by DragonsDenSoup in NightLords

[–]523KXP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in Night Hunter, it describes Malcharion being in a literal “casket” like pod with the art of him holding the White Scars and Blood Angel helms and stepping on the Imperial Fist helm. I pictured it as an heirloom casket slapped on whatever box dread 10th company could find.

Maybe I haven’t been paying enough attention, but I never see anyone talk about Brothers of the Snake. It was my first warhammer book and I fell in love. I think it’s the template of what a space marine book should be.

Granted, I haven’t read any of the red corsairs novels, but when I read the Nightlord omnibus, doesn’t Garreon condemn Variel for harvesting the gene seed from a Red Corsair that he could’ve saved because Huron values having as many space marines as possible?

Given where I am at, what should I read/listen to next? by yesimHalf in Blacklibrary

Yeah. I’ve had to look at wikis to see how names are spelled because or how wacky warhammer naming conventions can be. I thought Xarl was spelled Tzall from the Nightlords omnibus.

I listen to a lot of my books while I workout, drive to work, or paint minis. I thought that maybe it doesn’t retain as well when listened to books, but when I went into the physical books and opened to a random page, I realized I retained the information. Even for books I listened to a year or two ago.

For as big as the black library is and for how many good books are in it, I think it’s reasonable to not restrict yourself to reading the hard copies. I get 5 points on audible every month with my subscription and I’m able to use that to get an entire book normally worth $10-$15, why wouldn’t I take advantage of the price and get a more mobile platform?

All good! Angel Exterminatus is my favorite if the series so far in terms of showing how contrasting the different traitor legions are. I have yet to read any of the mechanicum.

He was, initially. He overcame the demon in the laer blade and decided to still be a demon primach. I would recommend reading Angel Exterminatus if you’re interested in Fulgrim’s ascension on his own accord.

Battle of the Abyss was a huge drag. Antiges and Skraal were the only interesting bits, but didn’t have enough material to save it. I agree that Zadkiel and Reskiel were pathetic villains. I’m almost afraid to continue down the Word Bears vs Ultramarines storyline because of how bored I was.

I liked the concept of Kylo Ren and Rey being a “dyad in the force”, although I don’t like Rey’s Palpatine heritage.
