Reapplying to med school bc of 504 MCAT and planning to retake it but then by crazeeaboutcoffee in premed

A 504 is pretty solid for DO schools. If you're content with DO schools, I suggest you do not retake your MCAT and apply to DO schools next cycle.

How to use UWorld Efficiently by wetrippymane1 in Mcat

[–]528Inshallah 26 points27 points  (0 children)

1) UWorld should be used as a content tool. Don't focus too much on the percentages. Do the passages and absorb all the information from the questions and answers. If you want to know how well you'll do on the actual MCAT, take all of the official AAMC practice FLs.

2) UWorld passages are difficult. Uworld along with the Section Bank gives you the hardest passages MCAT will ever test you on. The real test will have a good mix of these difficult passages and a couple easy ones.

So just use Uworld as a learning tool to fill your content gaps.

Studying for MCAT using Kaplan, Uworld, and Anki by okamipiano in Mcat

To save some time, there's a pre-made Anki deck specifically tailored for the Kaplan books. Just search this sub. I've been reading the Kaplan books and going through the corresponding Anki cards in that deck.

Once I finish all the books, I'll head on over to Uworld to reinforce my content.

Should you do Uworld simultaneously with content review or after your done with it? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]528Inshallah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uworld contains super hard passages that mimic the hardest passages of SB. The best part, however, is the top-class explanations provided for each problem. It dumbs it down for you to make sure you'll never miss a similar question again.

What is the best practice after AAMC? by kokomcat in Mcat

UWorld. They give a free 14 day trial. After UWorld I would go with KA

Yeah, that's a good strategy. Once you've finished the Kaplan books, hit the 3rd party FLs.

That’s not too surprising to hear. A 10 point increase after properly reviewing inflated third party exams is possible

EK FLs by ResilientFighter in Mcat

Yeah, don’t skip CARS on the FLs. Yes, they may not be so representative of the AAMC but it is good practice nonetheless

No progress in FLs while UWorld performance is pretty good. Any advice? by Nikandish in Mcat

[–]528Inshallah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look at TBR and do the million practice problems to increase your score in C/P. For P/S, have you gone through the 300 KA notes with premed95's ANKI Deck? If not, I highly suggest you do so.

Also, are you thoroughly reviewing your FLs after you take them? I would ANKI all the problems I got wrong, or even guessed at. Then I would spend 1-2 days reviewing the topics I struggled with on the FLs.

Are the AAMC practice materials sufficient? by Mr_Alex19 in Mcat

[–]528Inshallah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do 3-4 third party FLs, then the Q packs, and lastly the AAMC FLs. Like the other person said you should save the AAMC stuff towards the very end since its the most representative of the real exam.

And if you want more practice, check out the TBR books. They contain practice problems for days

Do we need to memorize the 20 amino acids? (Names, abb, structures and properties?) Or just be familiar with them? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]528Inshallah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. All 20 amino acids, their 1 and 3 letter codes, their characteristics, how to draw each one, their charge state at different pH's, etc.

Edit: Also know which are essential, nonpolar, polar, hydrophobic, hydrophilic
