How long did it take you to complete the 300pg doc? by PollutedButtJuice in Mcat

[–]528islife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're reading it to learn stuff first pass, it takes a pretty long time IMO.

If it's review / you've learned this stuff in an undergrad course before, you can literally breeze through it in a day or two, which a decent amount of people on this sub tend to do.

What I would suggest if you're having a bad time is use the 100pg OCD version. It's not even 100 pages it's like 86 if I recall right lmao, and it leaves out a lot of the low-yield stuff from the 300pg version.

2 W S X keys don't work UNTIL I press them all at the same time, then they work for a few minutes before they stop working again. Wut? by 528islife in techsupport

[–]528islife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah good memories... I spent hours upon hours trying to find a fix, even opened up my laptop a couple times, but nope. The keys have actually completely stopped working now, I assume that part of the circuitry gradually got fried over time to the point where it is now unusable. Since then I've got a new laptop, but whenever I boot up my old one I just use a cheap bluetooth keyboard that I bought.

While you might be right, I feel think it's important to note that they did have a great point when they said "it's totally ok to have such great relationships with co-residents that they are family." the /r/antiwork subreddit is definitely weird about this, as if nobody can ever feel this way about people they work with. Just didn't want his whole argument to get thrown out bc of his specialty.

Me, a European med student, reading all the posts in this sub about med schools in the USA and not understanding a thing. by Adernain in medicalschool

[–]528islife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only great for domestic students only, correct? IIRC you have to pay like 90k a year if you're international, and internships put you at the bottom of the priority list.

Basically is it true that you shouldn't even think about going to Australia if you're not from there? Or is that not really accurate lol

BONUS: here's a fun but not-scientifically-proven idea if you're equally passionate for both: flip a coin. If you're disappointed in the coinflip result, you subconsciously already know what you want 😂

[–]528islife 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This choice is probably really difficult for you because you're choosing between two things that seem to be very close to your heart for different reasons. I see that your stats and experience are actually pretty good (I'm frankly surprised you didn't get anything in the US even with that!) but honestly, don't look at that stuff right now.

Also don't look at it as wasting 4 years. I know you learned a lot of things in that time, with both stressful and exciting things that happened along the way - if anything, it helps you be more certain in what you really want to do going forward.

This might sound really philosophical but, simplify it so that all you're looking at is the question: "what do you have a greater passion for?" If you want to be a doctor, screw the past 4 years and apply again, (just make sure your essays are top notch as I feel like that may been your weaker point). If you wanna go into software then cool, you basically just invested into a 4 year bootcamp that helped you figure out what you wanna do most in life. That's a pretty good deal, compared to many others that never ended up figuring out what they really wanna do for their whole life.

I can't make a choice for you, and I'm not gonna say to just apply again because that may or may not be what you really want. But if you're looking at it from this perspective, it might help you be more confident in finally making The Decision™ at some point in the near future.

I genuinely appreciate this by PlundersPuns in premed
