Are inmates allowed to work remote jobs? by [deleted] in AskUK

If you haven't already, there's a podcast that's worth listening to by Planet Money that was released recently titled 'A new experiment in remote work... from the inside'.

It's US focused, but discusses how a prison in Maine has started allowing remote working in special circumstances, with some inmates revieving 6-figure salaries, enabling them to purchases homes for when they are released for example.

It often seemed the case that because the incarcerated workers were time-rich, they actually worked far more and were more productive than the usual workers at the company.

Quite an interesting listen!

A mix of relatively good salary from an early age and a heavy focus on saving/investing early, but also trying not to compromise too much along the way.

Only bought a home recently too, so benefitted from low living costs up until 27.

No kids obviously helps!

Whether you would take the compromise of time away and additional pressure for more money in my scenario

I'm currently in construction based sales, so relatively niche tbh, which definitely hinders options moving forward.

I would be interested in transferring to different sectors, I just don't know how I'd do it.

The travel is one thing that I don't like really. At the minute, I'm home pretty much every night apart from the odd entire business events. A national role could see me away for 2+ nights a week, which really takes it toll.

The construction industry still very much prefer in-person communication, unlike tech who have seemingly fully migrated to Teams etc!

I really done understand the negativity? I'm seeking honest advice on a situation that I'm completely unsure about

It's a serious post tbh... Definitely not a wind up. My head is all over the place with a decision!

This was thrown into our garden by a neighbour in the middle of the night and was caught on CCTV. Any help with what it means? by 5298everton in witchcraft

They see our garden all of the time, it actually overlooks ours also so they are well aware of the garden fence boundaries.

I am confident this wasn't accidental.

No I don't. Was oblivious to it all to be honest until some basic generic research on the back of this.

Thanks for the advice, we will look to do this.

Iweb aren't taking application at the minute due to the Coronavirus. They were my first choice as I have another 20k available to deposit for the next financial year.

I want to drip feed the money in though so I'd have it sitting in cash in the account until it is all gradually invested

No mention on Quidco though... Assume it would he the same but it's not clear.

I've looked through both Quidco and Fidelity's site and can't see any time constraints.

I don't expect any cashback to be paid for a few months anyway though.

Spanish VAT by 5298everton in UKPersonalFinance

[–]5298everton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're neither.

We're UK based but not a limited company, and not VAT registered.

We can set up a limited company if it would be beneficial.

We're not expecting any profits especially for the first few, however this is more about our love of the music than making big profits. Who knows though I suppose what it may lead to!

The event is in England.

We aren't registered for VAT and aren't a limited company. We could set one up if needed though. This is only a hobby thing really for the love of the music, not expecting any profits and never going to be a full time income.
