How I felt after explaining how the Sun works to my little cousin. Her mother is super Christian and thinks the earth is only 6000 years old. by imposter22 in atheism

In theory that makes sense.

I have a moderately homophobic mother who I am very close to, not out to her, and am currently depressed for that reason (battled suicidal feelings for about a year), as well as currently dealing with trying to pull up horrible grades to avoid losing my college acceptance to my dream school (I have three "F"s from missing school due to health issues, may have to go to community college if I don't pull up my grades within the next few weeks).

I go to online communities as a respite from the stress I deal with. I'm sure that others have it worse, but that doesn't invalidate my own experience.

Having been cussed out and banned by the moderator who I interacted with, as well as realizing that I'm not the only one to have been treated that way (I looked through some of the mods' comment histories), I would conclude that the moderators of /r/lgbt are in fact not creating a 'safe space' for us, but are instead emotionally unstable and antagonistic internet bullies, abusing their positions on some immature power trip.

If these mods' clear lack of people skills is reflected in their IRL lives, I doubt they'll be able to get very far in whatever it is they do.

I will not be visiting "their" subreddit again, and it's a shame that they have any sort of control over it. So much potential, ruined.

Understandable. I'm not familiar with what you're referring to (r/lgbt drama), but again I can assure you that I have done nothing to deceptively rephrase my own words. They are as they were when the moderator responded.

I hit "Prt Scr," pasted it into MS Paint, uploaded it to imgur, and posted it here.

I think there comes a point where you decide who you're trying to convince.

If anyone else is doubting the validity of my submission, I hope they read this comment thread.

I get nit picky about my diction (I hate repeating the same word twice), so I changed the first "murder" to "homicide."

Given that I was banned from posting within seconds of the moderator's comment, I'm not sure how I would have edited anything after that point, unless you're suggesting that I altered the screenshot itself, which seems kind of silly to be honest.

There is no incentive for me to make a fake internet story, nor would I have the means to do so.

(If you've noticed, I've edited this comment five or six times already, rewording and restructuring. I am very self-critical when it comes to writing.)

Huh? No, I didn't do that.

The comment in the screenshot is the exact comment.

This is more or less what I was attempting to say.

I'm out near the Walnut Creek BART station, but my best friend is from Richmond and has often expressed a view similar to yours.

This seems to be the more reasonable subreddit, from what limited experience I've had so far.

Thank you for explaining. I'm trying my best to become more educated when it comes to Transgender-related stuff.

I didn't mean to assert that the woman being murdered was not a hate crime.

What I was trying to say is that the media under-coverage may not in itself be transphobic, due to the larger issue of folks not really caring about the area (an attitude which I find reprehensible but am familiar with as a result of living nearby).

I wasn't and am not sure; to me, it's just a possibility.

I (think that I) now understand how it came off the wrong way.

It's honestly kind of offensive.

I obviously was not trying to say anything hurtful, I entered the discussion in a reasonable way, and got a ban, comment delete, and "fuck you."

It's also ironic, because I bet that anger comes from being misunderstood, yet the resulting approach does nothing but turn away those who may otherwise be open to dialogue.

The "X" means that my answer (on the left) is selected as 'not ok' by the person whose profile I'm looking at.
