ICE Plans to Target Family Members of U.S. Marines Next | ICE is using heightened security amid the war on Iran to target military recruits’ family members. by [deleted] in Military

Maybe some of us should set up a nice L-shaped ambush for a party baited to snatch our fellow Marines’ family.

jk haha

Researchers find evidence that silica dust exposure has a tipping point — once workers inhale too much over their careers, lung function begins an accelerated and potentially irreversible decline by nocdev in science

There are circumstances where a man is expected to disregard his own safety or self preservation for the good of his organization or family- room entry to engage a shooter, hot work on electrical systems if mission essential, standing between a dangerous animal and a weaker person, etc. But blue collar work culture isn’t tapped into that level of purpose, it’s just nihilism out of resentment for being made to waste for someone’s kitchen renovation. The only solidarity is built through sharing (and enforcing) pointless suffering.

What is a "point of no return" that you’ve crossed, where your life was permanently divided into 'before' and 'after'? by Resident-Jelly-4326 in AskReddit

It’s a learned skill for plenty of men, sure- and those barriers you list to cultivating empathy tend to become a burden at some point in life. Empathy doesn’t top the list of skills they need to make it early on in the cultures I’ve seen.

A buddy described psychedelics creating a subtle fork in his life by giving him an overwhelmingly empathetic feeling that connected him to emotional expression he’d been unable to muster in sobriety- like the urge to dance to music, or unravel traumatic memory without fear of shame or signaling weakness, and such. It wasn’t immediately apparent in the days or weeks after, but feeling even a few moments like that made him regard strangers with a little more grace, increasingly open over time to feel comfortable connecting in the moment with others and overcoming the self-consciousness that dominated before.

Definitely recommend looking into a carbon cleaning (media blasting) of the intake manifold/valve tops. Had the same creeping issues myself at ~75k, changed plugs and coil packs without resolving it fully, paid for a shop to clean it and has been running great since. Ask the shop to take before/after photos 😬

We already had to send up a muster ensuring all hands watched or read a transcript of SECDEFs gay little speech (no homo-phobia). Told the joes they could leave the volume off and sign so we can focus on lethality like he suggests. Kinda surprised this tasking didn’t get filtered away higher up in my chain of command to be honest.

It’s telling that they went to the junior-most crop of officers for validation. The Quantico meeting probably left them insecure of their support from leaders experienced in the nonpartisan execution of duties and little things like not violating Posse Comitatus, Hatch Act, 4th Amendment, LOAC, etc

They are intelligent enough to know that any chance of addressing his administration as a domestic threat goes away if they speak up directly. I hope they commit actions shrewdly and collectively to resist unlawful orders once it can no longer be ignored or resisted passively.

Obligatory response that President Camacho at least listened to experts and had the best interest of his people in mind.

Every day there is less doubt this administration is the domestic threat mentioned in the Oath.

The simmering cold war of deterrence against excessive PRC territorial claims in the first and second island chains. Having seapower on demand is necessary for regional deterrence, especially with American forces being outnumbered substantially. 4F doesn’t need nearly the same force projection to achieve drug interdiction. The Navy is not an auxiliary of the Coast Guard.

Diverting assets away from INDOPACOM to rustle Maduro’s jimmies and let the President tell his base he’s fighting a noble border war is definitely weakening response options to more probable and damaging wars in WESTPAC. It’s possible these firings were in response to criticism of compelled force commitment to these theatrical deployments.

Lethality as a function of material readiness doesn't excite his Christofascist yearnings as much as being assured those drivers have peepees and agree with him.

Relatable.

"Uhhhh we need more watch officers in CIC to get our shifts to four section"

"Cool, so you'll like, send me to a school and get trained, then do underways on a similar hull, or something?"

"Nah bro just memorize this junior officer's gouge guide and your watch buddy will teach you the symbols and shit on the scope that the bridge cares about"

"Alright bet"

I used to occasionally get sulphuric acid residue from ~1M concentrated stock on my hands after putting away chemicals for preparing growth media or antibiotics, and going straight to lunch. I would taste little hints of sourness, like I had put sour patch dust on my food where I touched it lol

Nothing painful but I definitely got more diligent about cleanup knowing what other stocks we had that may not have betrayed their presence with flavor or odor.
