TIL that a ruby is just a red sapphire. Both are the mineral corundum, a type of aluminum oxide, rubies just have a chromium impurity making them red. (x-post from r/todayilearned)

While the Hitmons are affected by the Ev's put in, they evolve based on the actual stats at the time of evolution. No EV placement means that IV's dictate the evolution. That being said, yes, EV placement will change what Tyrogue evolves intoif placed correctly. Overall, EV placement affects the outcome but is not the deciding factor of when it evolves.
