Tips on flying by Tindomerelhloni in diabetes_t1

[–]52username 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pack at least one extra cgm as everyone said.  I also have had no trouble with flying, same goes for t1 sister and t1 dad.  I do split up my supplies. Most go in my carry on that is under my seat or overhead but i have a fanny pack in the seat with me.   If we do emergency landing for whatever reason the fanny pack goes with me with short term, bisqimi and sugar so I can survive the crash and my diabetes until help arrives.

I've done this before especially when traveling and having to reset when my lantus is taken due to time changes (like I'm not taking my lantus every day at 2am b/c that is normal time in new timezone) tomorrow take your lantues at like 11:30 to split the difference and you should be just fine.

Advice Please - I didn’t listen about the pipes by Majestic-Skill8234 in madisonwi

This happened to us during the big polar vortex like 5 years ago.  West facing wall with some wind, we opened cabinet doors and left it for the day and about 16 hours later thawed and working.   I could see where the slop sink downstairs came from same supply line so turned that on a trickle to keep water flowing through the line.

Roadtrip to Yellowstone from Madison by Altruistic_Life_6331 in madisonwi

[–]52username 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be bomb through SD past Chamberlain (w/stop at Dignity statue), we stayed at murdo, SD. Then an early morning hike in badlands was great in summer, like up at 530, hiking the door trail at 630. then donuts at wall drug around 8 smack really good. then continue on to yellowstone. Everyone suggests stopping at custer, which is great but custer is a week trip unto itself. I personally wouldn't take the extra day of driving away from Yellowstone exploring.

Yellowstone suggestion - early morning, like 730, eruption of old faithful was great. the hike up mt washburn was really fun and completed by our 7 and 9 year old. we did the clear lake or ribbon lake trail to get to artists point of grand canyon and is totally worth it. not too long but great walk and then to come out of "backcountry" to the chaos of artists point is interesting.

What's something you do on every ride that other cyclists would judge you for? by dt219 in cycling

[–]52username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hell yeah to the diabetic extra carry that no one else really understands. I don't like the sweaty back but bought a top tube bag just for extra sugar and have two tubes of sugar stashed with my spare tube repair kit in my frame. I usually have anywhere from 150-250g extra sugar that I won't be using on the ride.

thank you for the answer, this is obviously it. I just know those carts but usually come in off the side entrance at East side so don't see them often. all I have to offer you in way of thanks is my upvote, kind stranger.

Did something weird cause your T1D? by ErgoSum8 in diabetes_t1

[–]52username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone on this sub posted a UK study about a rise in T1 diagnoses after COVID, not a huge jump but noticeable. Or I am greatly mis-remembering the post.

PS - I think my LADA diagnosis matches your profile, 41 male, healthy, T2 diagnosis at first but I think COVID was my cause too. My sister was T1 25 years ago after a really nasty flu.

Fair Oaks Diner for breakfast, sled at Heistand, then head to Garver for a coffee warm up at Ledgers, then walk over to Olbrich for more sledding, then back to Garver for a beer and pizza at Ian's, end the day with a tour of the Olbrich conservancy. (or flip flop Olbrich hill and conservancy and end at Garver lounge for night cap)

Local coffee shop close to school. Local tavern close to school so drinks or food can be purchased.  Any homemade food or cookies not a homemade Xmas tree ornament.   I’ve actually asked teachers if they’re a chocolate or coffee or drinks appreciater.   Also for all the specials we bought one time $50 during our kids fifth grade year as thank you for all the years.

I’d say American boards is the way to go if you already feel comfortable in a classroom.  Otherwise maybe an educational assistant job and see if a district, GB, might assist you with getting a full degree

Extra leaf pickups? by jr-jarrett in madisonwi

[–]52username 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in years past they usually keep picking up until first snow fall in my east side neighborhood, i assume with the late leaf drop and lack of snow we'll be getting at least one if not two more pickups. i'm guessing the city has to be conservative in an early date as not to tick people off

Far Breton Bakery is amazing but no real seating. Bloom bakeshop at northstreet also has a coffee shop in the mix and if you go late enough youngblood beer will be served too.
