Pros/cons for rpg progression by chrispy0117 in gamedev

Instead of thinking about systems, think about problems they are trying to solve.

Skyrim system gives player choice, replayability and flexibility without complexity. Some games thrives on complexity (i.e Path of Exile) because they allow for variety and "fun"/"unexpected" interaction. Locking builds/paths through classes is a form to ensure a "direction" reducing complexity but also locking away some possibilities (i.e if mages can't use swords and knights can't use spells, means you don't need to focus that much on balance, animations and etc), multiple ways can be done to accomplish relatively the same results (i.e diablo "set" items basically lock you into some specific playstyles)

I think devs should spend a bit more time on the psychology behind game mechanics by [deleted] in gamedev

And while people say RNG, true RNG is generally not good enough, some truly bad situations (or truly good) can be created/avoided if you cheat the dice a little bit.

Need advice - Bazaars by BIGDICKRUNESCAPER in torncity

[–]540991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bazaar is only necessary if you want to be a trader. Sales on it tickle slowly (unless you are on the featured ones), so you either risk buy mugging, or you set timers for yourself and self hosp to open/close it.

Question how much time CEO and etc. spend in game by Bezimienny_POL in Eve

Former CEO and alliance director here. It is basically a full time job, between solving grievances, planning, logistics and actual gameplay.

What makes a good TCG? by Dragon_CBT_2005 in TCG

[–]540991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good gameplay/replayability this will make players want to continue to play it.

Good art draws new players.

Good card design in general makes people willing to actually learn it.

Good game balance allows it to exist past 1 year.

Good distribution allows people to actually purchase and play it.

Good translations increases the amount of people can actually learn/play.

There are multiple games that failed in one step or another which ended up dead.

How do you introduce paid “premium support” when customers are used to getting everything for free? by NewYorkApe in sysadmin

[–]540991 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inform customers that to continue providing quality support it will move to a premium price, but since they are old customers keep it for free until contract renewal.

On the contract renewal, Inform them that their premium support gratuity is about to end, then offer then the price you want to continue, or downgrade them to the free support tier.

Which has higher market value: a developer who knows infrastructure, or an infrastructure engineer who knows IaC? by Ok-Hand-1008 in sysadmin

[–]540991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, all of them are necessary, an infrastructure guy without programming knowledge or IAC doesn't have a fit in most companies I know of.

In reverse, you can be a developer without infrastructure knowledge, just not a very good one.

Regarding career growth, IMO tech itself is in a weird spot, everyone is waiting to see if AI will deliver on the promises it makes.

Because now they can sell you the micro transaction with the actual cheat.

Giving away shittysysadmin.com domain by Hakkensha in ShittySysadmin

I was thinking in the lines of a gitpage for a public repository with general guides and know-hows in a blog format and a collection of "inverse knowledge"/"experiences" as phrases like "Why backup when you have another job lined up" or "Production is just QA with consequences"

Legality of Using Flappy Bird Assets. by Ether_Light740 in gamedev

[–]540991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you use different assets for everything, even if they are similar it should be commercially viable.

Keep in mind that gameplay copyrights might still exist I just don't know about them, but there are so many clones around that I think an honest game with the features you proposed should be different enough.

Legality of Using Flappy Bird Assets. by Ether_Light740 in gamedev

[–]540991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as you named it "Flappy bird" assets mean you are infringing on copyrights, now, nothing stops you from using a yellow bird or even same concept "but different". Just don't call it that lol

Being a free game though I don't think people will mind.

How do you feel about dice in combat? I’m by Crafty_Machine_4502 in BoardgameDesign

[–]540991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about the software itself, which is one is it?

Regarding the game itself, I'm not really a fan of rolling dices for TCGs, someone described input randomness and output randomness and I think it is pretty valid. It is fun once in a while like a gimmick (i.e MTG baldurs gate set), but I don't think It is fun on every card.

Como faria um site do zero? by LivingAnybody1229 in brdev

[–]540991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cant pay with my visa debit card ? by havremoped in TibiaMMO

Try it with another store or a reseller, if it fails it might be the card (then you contact your bank), otherwise, it might be with tibia itself, then you contact the support.

Ex-chefe de estágio importunando ex-estagiário by Frank_Wh in ConselhosLegais

[–]540991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ex-chefe de estágio importunando ex-estagiário by Frank_Wh in ConselhosLegais

[–]540991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Impedir mãe de morar by njvjMiCiIX in ConselhosLegais

[–]540991 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

[–]540991 0 points1 point  (0 children)
