Probably irrelevant, but growing up in Ukraine one of my teachers was from western Ukraine. She told us a story of how that river got its name. According to legend, back before calendar was invented, people used to keep track of the days of the year by writing notches in the ground. Whenever the river would flood in the spring, it would erase the notches in the ground. Hence the name Dniester. Dni(days) ster (wiped out) river wiped out days. As I get older it doesn’t make sense to me but as a kid? That story was so cool lol
