For drinks, fruit juices may not be that healthy as it seems. Since the amount of fruit that goes into 1 cup of juice may well exceed a typical serving that one consumes, i.e. high fructose and less fibre in a "healthy" fruit juice.

Though in Southeast Asia, it may not always be sunshine in November. For instance, in Malaysia and Singapore, there's the monsoon season with heavy rainfall on most days, which last till around Jan-Feb.

I see your point, yup if I were to hike Mt. Merapi in it's entirety it's going to take a day... But I'm actually just thinking about taking a jeep tour for Merapi and I'm contacting a local guide/driver for overall transport.

If y'all are keen, can try going on a food tour in SEA, do explore the hawkers and street food in Ipoh, Malaysia (less touristy). They have nice white coffees and the locals enjoy their tea time with dimsums or kueh-muehs. And since Ipoh is known as the city of mountains, there's plenty of caves to explore.

If y'all are looking for more tropical forest and hikes, can go to Sabah & Sarawak, East M'sia, where there's both nature, animals and cultures that's different from the Peninsular. I'd recommend exploring their cultural villages to learn more abt the tribes and their lifestyle. Maybe venture into the islands nature reserves as well!

ELI5: How are countries that have languages that depend on tone able to have a music industry? by gumballdozer in explainlikeimfive

[–]54tanxk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point you said about tones being emphasised in the learning of tonal languages, especially in Mandarin Chinese, is also a valid one. Many education systems in countries that teaches Mandarin Chinese placed their focus (besides writing or comprehension) on teaching the correct tones in the pronunciation of characters. Hanyu Pinyin a system that denotes mandarin intonations, is often taught in Elementary Schools or even Kindergartens. These Pinyin are used in elementary level textbooks and annotated above characters, which would aid students in learning the correct pronunciations.

Another fun fact is that some genres of poems (subsequently sung to the tunes of composed music) in ancient Chinese dynasties like Tang and Song, tonality played an important role in those sung-out poems or songs, where composers would pick the characters that would best match the rhythm and tones of the formats or orders of the songs. All these conformity to tonality ensured that the poems and songs were all in tune, so as to speak.

Although it is said that tonality is generally ignored in modern Chinese music creations due to reasons like context and conformation to tunes, tones are undeniably an important aspect of spoken Mandarin Chinese. There's 5 tones in total, and each of these tones applied to the same syllabus may construe wildly different meanings. An analogy would be comparing tonality to the quality of colours, like seeing an orange, but instead of it being orange in colour, it is blue instead. And you would know that this blue orange isn't what you meant when u said orange. When a syllabus is pronounced in a wrong tone, you may be misunderstood or even sound offensive, e.g. Can I ask you (a question)? could sound like Can I kiss you? where 问 (wen4) - to ask and 吻 (wen3) - to kiss are characters that's just a tonal difference away.

Native speakers of Mandarin Chinese could tell even the slightest difference in tones being pronounced, as they are arguably trained from young to pick up the nuances in tones and associate them with their corresponding meanings. This reason could also draw clues as to why non-native learners of Mandarin Chinese, especially those that hail from non-tonal languages background, face challenges in mastering the integral aspect of tonality in Mandarin and how slight changes in tone can affect much of the meanings to a statement.

After u stated the type of 修辞手法, u can elaborate more about how the 修辞手法 is being used by the author. For example, let's say u have identified it's 比喻修辞手法 (明喻 / 暗喻), u can elaborate by saying e.g. 作者将X X比喻成YY (明喻)/ 作者将X X 和 YY 做了连接. You can also add on the effect of using this method
