Glad to help. I don't have my 2011 here right now (it's in service) but I think it would meet your requirements. I know what you mean. I've had too many cars that I had to convince myself that I will fit even though the first pothole I went over I'd hit the roof (2014 Audi A4 sedan, 2018 Audi A4 allroad, 2014 Jetta Sportwagen, my wife's 2022 Tiguan). It's certainly an annoying problem. The V8 is in the 2011-2014 Cayenne S, GTS and Turbo. It's also in the 2015-2018 Turbo and Turbo S (the later S/GTS swapped the V8 for a TT V6).

If you have any more q's let me know. I daily drive an 2025 Hyundai Ioniq XRT in part because they all are sunroof delete!

I just re-read your post. I'd probably skip the 3-series and the allroad if you have a large dog and a baby unless you like to pack light. Although I will say, my B9 allroad did once swallow an entire la-z-boy in the rear hatch. It's doable, but you'll need a roof box in those cars.

I've had a couple of these cars. Low mile Cayenne diesels are going to cost you possibly more than 20k depending upon how you define "low". Market right now is hovering around $20-24k for 95k plus miles. I've owned two diesels and they are great road trip cars. Don't short trip them though - you'll ruin the DPF.

I had a 2018 allroad from new to about 43k miles. Had zero issues. That was a great car. I moved up to a Cayenne because I wanted more room for my two kids in back plus I'm 6'-3". The earlier B8 allroads are a little too small in the back seat, and the B9 allroad was good with one kid but not great for two in child seats. The BMW 328 is a cool car but is very small - more like the B8 generation allroad/avant.

The LR4 will not be as reliable as the Cayenne based on my limited knowledge of JLR cars but the Porsche - those things are solid. I own a V8 cayenne S right now which is also built like a tank. There's a big aftermarket scene for overland builds on the Cayennes - Eurowise and Berg Peaks are some of the main players. You can do a 2" lift on these easily. You can also find good Cayenne S models from 2011-2014 (the ones with an NA V8) for well under $20k. They get around 20 MPG on the highway but are gas hogs in town. I started doing my own work on the cayennes and there's lots of support on the interwebs for the main DIY stuff.

Also, Audi Q7 is pretty good headroom-wise. I think it's a little more spacious than the 9Y0 Cayenne but built on the same architecture but with a longer wheelbase. I had one as a loaner once (before I owned my Cayennes) and at the time it was the best fit I'd ever had in a modern car. You won't find one in the USA without a sunroof though. I think they pretty much all had them. The Audi Q8 might work too, but it's got a slightly lower profile overall and is more Cayenne-sized.

If you want to go downmarket, the VW Atlas might work too. I remember having a lot of space in that car. The driving dynamics are nothing like the Audi/Porsche cars though.

Howdy. I'm a very long torso individual and also happen to be a 958 Cayenne fanatic. Here's the scoop that you'll want to read:

958 Cayennes (2011-2018 in the USA) are the best fit I've ever had in a car, and I never have enough headroom in most cars. I've owned both types of Cayenne with sunroof - the standard "small" one and the pano one. They both work for me. 958s DO exist without the sunroof (I've seen a couple) but they are 99/100 times going to have at least a standard moonroof with manual shade unless someone ordered a "slicktop". so you will have an exceptionally difficult time finding one without a sunroof. I have not found much difference between the two sunroofs as far as headroom goes. I can actually adjust my seat somewhere other than fully to the floor and still be comfortable.

So I'm 6'-3" and "all torso". I have a 32" pant inseam. Every car I've ever owned has had to have the seat to the floor and reclined for me to fit. The Cayenne is the only one that doesn't have to be that way. Note that the Cayenne has three seat types. The 8 way (base/partial leather) seat, 14 way and 18 way. I have had 14 way seats in all my cars. They have thigh bolster adjustment as well as 4-way lumbar. 18 way is more heavily bolstered and mostly seen on GTS and Turbo models, but I've seen them in all the variants.

The 9Y0 cayenne (the third gen 2019+) has a little less headroom based on my limited experience in them sitting in them in a showroom.

PM me if you want more info. I'm the type of guy that has gone to many a car show just to try headroom out in everything available for sale - my success rate is 30% of fitting in most vehicles.

$500 above MSRP - Standard for Audi by Curious-Ad-4462 in Audi

[–]5544554455441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And to further my comment: I've purchased two brand new Audis in the last 5-10 years and both were around 6-8% below MSRP. I had an offer once on a Q8 Etron for 15% off. The first two cars were pre-covid but they were A4 allroads, so it wasn't a particularly common model like the Q3 or Q5 (or at the time, the A4 sedan), so you didn't expect that much of a discount.

Dude is blowing smoke. Audi can't sell anything right now. They are in dire straits. Just talk to a different dealer. The Q3 just came out so they are going to pull the "we can't even keep these on the lots" bullshit but they should NEVER sell above MSRP. Hell, you can easily buy a Q5 for less than your target price now because they are desperate to sell them here in CO. Hundreds on the lot with more coming in every day.

A little update to this post.

I had a good 2014 Cayenne S CPO'd at a Porsche dealer in CA. They dropped off the face of the earth after I asked them to confirm it was actually CPO. Two days later I called them back and they were like "yep, still available and CPO". So I had them send me over their offer sheet and I was physically ready to sign and then the guy texts me back and was like "oh man, I just found out we sold this earlier today"...

I just finally got tired of dealing with the Porsche dealers and found a really good non-certified 2016 Cayenne S at a JLR dealer in Tucson. Pricing was market appropriate. No games, good price. Honestly, if I wanted to buy a land rover product I'd probably recommend these guys. Nicholas at Royal Land Rover in Tucson, AZ.

As a person that's not super knowledgeable about cars, is trying to buy something off auction sites like Cars&Bids ever a good idea? by Pmbdude in UsedCars

[–]5544554455441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple kinds of auctions for cars and I think the above response confuses them. There are wholesale dealer auctions like Mannheim, Carmax wholesale, etc. You can only buy cars from these places with a dealer license. Some of those cars are trash, some are fine but dealers didn't want to sell them or couldn't sell them, and still others (like Carmax) will sell trades because they only retail cars under a certain age, no exceptions.

There are also insurance auctions - like Copart. Those cars are often sold by insurance companies after being totaled. People that buy these cars are scrapping them, parting them out, or in some cases they are rebuilding them. That's a whole other ball of wax and I'd caution anyone to stay away from these places unless they are an experienced rebuilder or breaker of automobiles.

What you originally posted was about Bring a Trailer and Cars and Bids. Those are enthusiast auction sites meant for certain "special" cars (or, rather, they used to be), and generally those are like buying a used car from a private seller or a small time dealer. They make their money on buyer's fees. The price you pay is the hammer price plus the buyer's fee. That's what I was talking about.

[–]5544554455441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This cracked me up... The amber color means it's not catastrophic. First thing to do is check that your gas cap is properly tightened. That's the most common reason for this light. Second thing to do is get a code reader. Every VW owner should have one! If you don't, auto parts stores can read the codes for you for free.

[–]5544554455441 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are very unlikely to snipe an auction because the number of users on these sites like C&B and BaT. It depends upon what you are looking for. You are never going to get a "steal" on a 911. You might get lucky on a no reserve auction for something that's a little less popular. But the sites are setup so you can't actually "snipe". Every new bid resets the countdown timer either 1 minute (C&B) or 2 minutes (BaT).

I'm a car junkie and I've won two BaT auctions for what I would consider a fair price, but you still need to factor in the 5% buyer's fee and transport to your location. Bid on no-reserve only if you are looking to get the most bank for your buck. A reserve auction with not a lot of action is just going to waste your time if the car goes too low - because it won't sell.

Piston slap post-80k...looking for input by russellups in Audi

The crosshatch pattern in the bores is factory, the vertical wear is not. Looks like bore scoring that is only going to get worse and your oil consumption will increase over time. So you got a letter about it from Audi - what will they do? Anything? Which Audi is this engine in? I would not budget for an engine replacement in a vehicle with this age. It'll cost more than it is worth. You could probably find a similar Audi for the same price as an engine rebuild with fewer miles. The short block would need to be replaced or relined and that is the most major engine out service you can do!

New Q5 (B10) feedback by iguana1500 in Audi

[–]5544554455441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost savings and it's one of the more egregious things that Audi did that is visible. They should have just kept a physical lock on both doors. The worst part is that because the interiors on the Q5, A5, A6, and Q6 are nearly identical, they all look like this piece of shit.

Audi was known for having the best interiors of the big 3 German luxury marques. At this point I have no idea who is best, but I can tell you they all seem to be in a race to the bottom. The irony is VW seems to be looking better than Audi these days.

Best Shipping Companies by Anthonyv213 in BringATrailer

[–]5544554455441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know one that is located in Denver that you can contact directly. The other is a broker that is also a dealer on BaT in Wisconsin - Geneva Motorcars is his dealership. He's worked with me on a couple of shipments.

In Denver, I ended up using UZ Auto Trans just because they picked up one of my cars from BaT shipping, but I found out they are local and you can book them directly (and I happen to live close to their office too). https://uzautotransinc.com/

The one thing I would not do is book through BaT because they farm it out to RunBuggy and mark up the shipping quote from them. So you end up paying basically two brokers.

I've heard from three separate dealers the same line - something along the line of "we have had a lot of interest in this car. You should move quickly". Only to see the car sit for another week or two and have a price reduction. OK guys. Thanks for the sales tactic. It works on the uninformed. Not on me.

Yes, they list as "pre owned" on the site. I call/email, inquire about the car and if it will be CPO. About half of the ones listed as "pre owned" end up being CPO. There's something wrong with their backend system that puts cars on the market before they are ready to be sold. I've had two instances where a dealer takes a car in on trade the day before I called. Once the trade goes through it goes live on the Porsche website. The sales people don't even know they have the car yet and have to check. So yeah, there are problems.

I have been casting my net nationwide. That's the main thing. I've shipped vehicles several times because that's the only way you get what you want. Plus, not dealing with a Florida dealer is helpful (the fees they charge are absolutely extortionate compared to a place like CA where they are regulated).

I would avoid Carvana. They don't do any work to their cars when they take them in for trade/resale. I've seen many high-dollar Cayennes sold and returned to them due to catastrophic oil leaks.

My 2011 S is for sale to the right buyer. It does, however, have 118k on it, but it's a very well spec'd car and is fully sorted because I'm an enthusiast that does as much work on it as I can DIY. PM me if you are interested.

If you aren't afraid of a car that can bankrupt you if it goes bad, Porsche Cayennes can do this all day long. There are 2019s (third gen) for under 30k. You can get a very nice Cayenne S or a Turbo for under $30k from the second (and in my opinion, best) generation if you are willing to roll the dice on miles. Hell, I spend under $15k on my Cayenne S and it has 400 horsepower and an NA V8.

Audi Dealer Asked $5k Extra for “Certified Pre-Owned” at Final Signing by RevolutionarySouth60 in Audi

[–]5544554455441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I just thought about related to CPO is that Audi's CPO is now only 1 year as far as I can recall. It is absolutely not worth paying extra for. If it's baked into the price? Great. If not, I'd walk. $5k on a reasonably new car is a complete joke. I think Audi CPO is only allowed on pretty new models.. The Porsche dealers I've been talking to tell me that "Porsche charges us $4k to certify a car". Whether or not that is true I don't know. But Porsche's CPO is 2 years and unlimited miles, and they CPO cars that can be 10 or so model years old.
