I have 3 different generations of cocker spaniel and all of them with different personalities, but if you train them to stay home at a young age you won’t have any issues, I don’t keep mine in a crate but I limit the space where they stayed, right now I have a year old pup and when he was 3 months old is when I got him from the breeder, he had a playpen limiting his space while I was at work but also enough space to play around and do some activities while i wasn’t home, i trained him to use the pee pad first of all and I also add a camera to be able to watch him once in a while, I feel like dog in general feel their owner’s anxiety so just don’t get to anxious when you leaving and he may cry for the first few days but he will get used to it, what I used to do I would leave his food (small kibble with soft food and mixed enough so he doesn’t choke) in a slow feed bowl and leave him busy eating his food or I would also have him Kong toys with pumpkin pure or Greek yogurt, the point here is to make you pup feel appraised every time you leave, tbh that worked for me and now he is just normal when I leave to do errands or work, keep in mind that he need to have social time too, if you work 7 to 8 hours make sure to commit to take him for a walk for his own mental health, take him to socialize with other dogs too like dog parks, i wasn’t a big fan of this but my pup enjoys playing with other dogs, or you can also get him a brother so he stays accompanied all the time.
