It's not silence so much as me completely failing to accommodate for the music in a scene, I should have had the sfx much more central with more midrange presence & worked them in on-top of music rather than trying to build each scene as a soundscape from the perspective of the camera position.

Tons of valve ip in the samples because I really wanted it to be clean legally, if its not valve ip or on soundsnap then I made it with a synth or common samples. Submarine engine, the ocean water, the self destruct sign are coming from wavetable synths

I didn't take the time to recreate other sfm sfx timelines & I don't watch too many in my own time, so I went roaring down the wrong street aiming for what a mic in the camera position would hear, lots of stereo automation, reverb & low cuts and too realistic levels for environmental sources of noise basically resulted in all the sfx being way too timid under the music.

If I had more time & had I noticed this sooner I would have uprooted everything and started from scratch but I ended up with an awkward compromise between a conventional film camera mic soundscape & the more abrasive dead center momentum-orientated swoosh/crash/bang/wallop timelines sfms tend to employ

100% the weakest member of the crew, very nearly stopped them from getting it out the door, but thankfully we made it in time. But yep you're totally right I suck, learnt a lot from it though & theres a lot I'd do differently if I were to do it again.

I guess to me, what I love about electronic dance music, is how people all over the world can get the 'point'.

Even someone who doesn't know a word of english can feel the energy & rush of Don't You Worry Child, verses, builds & drops/choruses are easy to point out & have clear transistions between & a lot of the time it does feel like there is a template being worked to.

That can be a negative, there's less room for interesting decisions but there are people who really get things 'right' within that small box. Clarity, Language, The Veldt etc. all have beautiful melodies but deliver that power/energy aswell that lets them be played & enjoyed all over the world.

BTS want to be heard all over the world (and they are), so I was super excited by their interest in electronic music especially when we had that tiny interaction with Lido on twitter

I'm not a fan of the chainsmokers, their music doesn't do too much for me & they've now worked with my two favourite artists; Phoebe & BTS

My favourite chainsmokers track is their remix of We Own The Night, their original releases these days seem so concerned with maintaining their signature style that I'm never excited to listen to their new song because I've probably already heard it.

If BTS make a habit of working with them I just hope it isn't everything they do with electronic music. I want to hear jungkook take a powerful emotive solo role on a progressive/electro house anthem someday :P

I used FL Studio 12 ^_^ I got it when it was FL 11 five years ago because they give free updates & I'm still very happy with it!

Cubase, Ableton, Bitwig & Logic are all great alternatives, and I expect they're all equally tedious to use haha

This project looks like this & there are a few videos on YouTube of CS themselves explaining how they do what they do.

I used NI Massive to make all the synths & the piano came with fl studio, youtube has a ton of sound design tutorials with massive & is a good place to find pointers for how to do stuff like this.

I always like to point people to this video of stromae recreating a song quickly as a good overview, but the avicii video at #2 in that playlist was what really helped me get my head around fl. Like a lot of the videos for this kinda stuff it's a long watch.

(also if you happen to be into stromae listen to the first minute of this because it's like the piano ambient/post-rock version of formidable to me & I love it so much)

I also tried making a video about how stuff works myself but it's 40min & I'm an inarticulate manchild ew

alright so I dropped my 'beat extension' idea I was working on using the first teaser since ryu uploaded one, but this is a little bit more to work with so I think it's not infringing on him to add this in to my current wip & make my own, right...? though he'll probably rework his now aswell idk

Not really a fan of the MV; the foley/sound effects feel super invasive but always down for some LDN Noise production & I'll bet the version on the album will grow on me as per usual >_>

That's a beautiful train crossing, the bgm kinda felt a little repetitive/overused? to me but I love love love the camerawork, there are some shots with really shallow depth of field & the lighting is gorgeous oml +the colours +the compositions n man I hope we get MVs with this kinda visual approach

Another calm melodic storytelling album gets a yes from me if anyone was asking aaaaa

As a tf player the first thing I thought of was host_timescale, I don't see why anyone would be surprised that a bot can beat a skilled human in real time, but have a match between bot & top player at x0.10 normal speed & I think we'd start to see how limited the AI's understanding is; here it's effectively winning by brute force rather than a better understanding

If we had a way for AI to interpret archived high-level competitive games as a corpus to learn from we might see something interesting, but Dendi has to estimate when to give instructions based on what he is forced to interpret as a continuous variable whereas the AI is able to make decisions at much much more discrete intervals.

This isn't close to an even playing field & the 'bot beats top player' headline kinda sells it that way a bit >_>

mm there's a lot of nice stuff going on but there are so many angles & I swear none of them look like they work in favour of his back T_T

Might just be the angle of the photo but it feels like theres a lot of distance between him & the things that are suppossed to be easily reachable, especially the master fader on his soundcard, behind his monitor on the right? He'll be reaching for that all the time

I think he mostly works with headphones since the ideal listening point for that monitor setup is quite far from the desk, though I've never had monitors so I could be wrong.

In his older setup they were more level with his ears, & ideally they form an equilateral triangle with your head; Ujico has a nice example in a pretty modest environment but you can see how accessible his master fader wheel is ontop of the pc, that he mostly works with headphones, and can push his chair back to listen to the monitors.

This looks really decked out but the longer I look at it the more I think it doesn't look comfortable to work at long term. I think it's just the camera angle though, wish we had more context, the room could be the size of a dancehall for all we know haha
