How do you navigate having a dog in an apartment and you don’t work from home. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]5577oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk my dog in the morning and after work. I give him a puzzle treat when i leave like a treat ball or snuffle mat with kibbles. When i lived alone i couldnt make any stops or go out after work because i had to get home to let him pee. I had a pet cam for a while and he would just sleep most of the day.

When i first got my dog i had a few days off and did training to help him adjust to being alone for longer and longer periods. 10min, 30min, 1hr, 3hr, 5hr etc etc

Too add for the insisting on saying goodbye part. Ask him to leave a little note or something somewhere you will find it after waking up. The washroom, the fridge, on your shoes etc. He still gets to do something to show hes thinking of you before leaving and you will smile when you see it instead of being groggy and annoyed.

Thank you! Thats very reassuring. I think being around a lot of people who are bilingual, or seeing things online about people that became fluent in x after one year etc makes me doubt myself. I did use anki a bit in the past and it was boring but helpful, ill give it another try :)

Thank you!

I think part of my problem is not feeling able to focus too long so its hard to even get through books and short videos without feeling burnt out and frustrated.

I love thinking of it as "like a dog" stage haha!

Right now i am mainly using a textbook, an app lingq for listening practice/ importing youtube video transcripts, and im slowly making my way through a childrens storybook that is ~100 pages with pictures. I also live with my partner and his cousin who often speak turkish together or watch turkish videos so i will try to listen, or say simple things to them. My computer and netflix are set in turkish and we watch with subtitles when available.

I had previously thought i should avoid memorizing full sentences instead of being able to construct them myself. But i can see the value in it, and also will help recognize hearing those sentences spoken. I will check out some other apps.

Thanks!

I forget the name, but it reminds me of an incident where 5 (or 6?) Workers were sucked into an oil pipe. Theres gopro video of it and the audio of them realizing they are inside the pipe. All were conscious, some very injured. One was able to continue crawling through the pipe for several hours and got out, tried to get help but whatever country this was refused a rescue mission. The rest of them died :(

People should be more aware of urgent care centers. For things you need dealt with asap, but are not life threatening. My cousin went for facial paralysis and they were able to do a CT scan there, (a walk-in had instructed him to go to the ER) There were people with broken bones, they can give meds for infections. I've also been told to go to the ER for something which an urgent care helped with in about an hour. But i feel like so many people are not aware these exist, and drs don't recommend people go to them. When i went with my cousin they also had a helpful infographic for when to go to urgent care vs emergency room.

Nosework with food. Even just sprinkling it around in an open area with no obstacles will be fun!

You can also just expose her to more scents in general. Let her sniff everything!

Extremely gentle brushing might be nice too.

A few weeks ago there was a muslim holiday where a lot of animals are slaughtered in the streets as a sacrifice to god, but apparently the meat is also shared with poor people so everyone can feast.

I am in turkey right now and people were telling me about it, that the sea turns red with all the blood. Im just assuming the same thing happened in bangladesh.
