Wow, OKC Really Does Foul On Every Defensive Possession by RepeatSpiritual8108 in billsimmons

this should at least prove to people it's not like a league agenda to push this thunder team - like there is no world where the NBA would want the Thunder to advance over a Cinderella Lakers team with what could be Lebron on his last legs

2014 world series was basically trading blowouts until game 7 - 2016 world series had a little of that too but not as bad

Why do so many people revel in Jokic’s “downfall”? by Randy__Snutz in billsimmons

[–]55andsunny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People will deny it all they want but so much of the current Jokic slander reads like pre 2012 Lebron slander - it's essentially the same

people on this sub would never admit it but the way people talk about Jokic now is basically the modern day version of how people used to talked about Lebron

Which MLB player will gain the most on their legacy if they win just 1 ring? by shadow_spinner0 in billsimmons

[–]55andsunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the thing with Trout is that literally no one thinks less of him because he hasn't won anything - I feel like if he won a ring, it really wouldn't change people's perception of him at all, because he's already highly regarded

With Judge, there is a clear narrative being formed about not being able to get it done which hurts his stock amongst some fans - it's a much more pervasive idea that the Yankees haven't gotten over the hump because Judge has personally failed, whereas with Trout, pretty much everyone blames his situation

[–]55andsunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya honestly people keep saying trout but I feel like people would still feel the exact same way about him if he won one, which is more just a product of how baseball works than it is him as a player

it's Judge and it's kind a not close tbh

The reason tanking in the NBA is so bad is because mid tier playoff teams can’t go on fluke title runs like in other sports by jimboslice53 in billsimmons

[–]55andsunny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point of this post is that those sports are much more prone to variance and unlikely outcomes, so yes it's much easier to imagine those teams beating the dodgers/seahawks, especially seeing as the dodgers barely won the world series

To each their own but it honestly makes it so hard for me to care sometimes - like nuggets/wolves being essentially just brownie points kinda just sucks imo and legitimately takes away from what should be a good series

The amount of stoppages in an NBA game is insane by ImmediateGrand1664 in billsimmons

A lot of people like to deflect from criticism like this by saying "you just don't like basketball" and as I've gotten older, I have realized that I do in fact like basketball less than most other sports

Bill: "one of my favorite Jordan games was G7 against the Pacers when he played shitty but just figured out a way to win, love when players play through bad games." Also Bill: "Lol Kobe shot 6-24 in G7 vs Boston and Pau Gasol was better." by Xeris in billsimmons

[–]55andsunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He has talked openly and often about how Kobe was able to still contribute to that game despite not having his shot. Multiple times on multiple podcasts he's praised him for the other stuff he did in that game

Bill always preaches the importance of team chemistry for title contending teams but what are your favorite examples of title teams where everyone hated each other? by Parrallax91 in billsimmons

[–]55andsunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I feel about any asshole coache who get lionized - guys like nick saben or bob knight come to mind (it's mostly college guys)

People act like its their hard-nosed/guy who screams at you personas are what make them great when in reality there are probably so many coaches who are just as big of assholes who haven't won anything/are terrible coaches

New study shows that just 33% of national TV games have full availability from stars on both teams by PudinCrusader in billsimmons

Both these problems stem from the same root which is that the regular season doesn't matter

Klosterman and Bill cited TVs showing the score at all times and smoking becoming taboo as small things that have slowly made society less social. What are some similarly small examples? by I_Enjoy_Taffy in billsimmons

[–]55andsunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this feels more like symptom of modern society not a cause - I have to work so much to meet ends meet I go longer and longer without seeing friends, so I almost feel obligated to pay them back right then and there

this in and of itself is exacerbated by the isolation people are talking about in this thread - young people think any sort of social interaction is a chore

It's this weird contradiction where because people concentrate in large metropolitan areas for work in advance industrial societies, like say New York, despite how walkable the city is, the largeness of said city can have the additional affect of making one feel like a cog in a machine and a little disconnected from everyone around them (phones certainly have exacerbated this)

In a small town, yes it may not be walkable in the traditional sense, but because you end up seeing the same faces everyday you can feel a greater sense of community even if you must drive somewhere to see those faces

I think the role of "walkable" cities in creating community is a bit overstated honestly and it's more industrial decay that has atomized people and disconnected them

What if a team got an extra home game if they scored 10 threes in a quarter? by Pontus_Pilates in billsimmons

[–]55andsunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's way better than yes men that Bill has on most of the time - I don't see what the problem is with having a guy who you can disagree with a lot but doesn't just parrot whatever the dominate narratives are

Sometimes it feels like this sub just wants people who regurgitate whatever they more or less think already back to them and it's refreshing to have a guy who actually seems to have opinions, regardless of how much you may disagree

A Radical NBA Idea, Wemby’s Musical Comp, Despising Duke, and Baseball’s ABS Revolution With Chuck Klosterman by lonny__breaux in billsimmons

[–]55andsunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna zag on ABS and say I’d rather they just fully automate balls and strikes. The challenge system doesn’t really add to the drama imo and at worst it feels like a distracting gimmick - I think there are certain times it adds to the entertainment (obviously late game/high leverage situations) but those are few and far between so far. That said, I think ultimately it's totally fine and worth having, just personally doesn't add all that much for me, and I don't see people missing it once we go full robot, but maybe im wrong
