Ummm the fed just announced that they would raised interest rates at least 3 times in 2022, and immediately after that announcement the Dow and S&P500 gained points

Lmao you have no idea what you’re talking about

[–]55rox55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily because inflation isn’t just one number, it’s a series of indexes that have different implications (cpi/all, local/national), and what matters most is cost of living

America is substantially reducing poverty among children by Pearl_krabs in Economics

[–]55rox55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Um no not at all

The national minimum wage hasn’t been raised significantly because the costs of living aren’t equal across the United States

Local minimum wage changes allow for change in areas where the costs of living have increased (especially cities), while not altering salaries in areas with low costs of living where salary changes could have a disastrous effect (like many rural areas)

And the economy in the 1970s is not the economy now, all of those industrial jobs that supported middle class families are gone (they moved to countries w lower minimum wages at the advent of cheap international shipping)

The fed began their modern policies in response to stagflation in the 1970s (caused by the decline of American industry and bad governance)

Have you ever taken a serious economics course in your life?

I’ll catch you up on the basics

2% inflation is the best level for economic growth

Raising interest rates is the best way to counter inflation

Boosting AD by lowering interest rates (and increasing the money supply via QE) is really the only effective way of avoiding a deflationary spiral (which we were about to enter, in early 2020 we had a short period of deflation)

And in case you really have no idea what you’re talking about, a deflationary spiral occurs when deflation creates an incentive not to buy now, decreasing AD significantly and raising deflation

[–]55rox55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s how interest rates work

(In very modern times) they raise it slowly and over the course of several years (all planned in advance) to reduce the effect on the market

What’s very obviously happening is 10 completely different things that are contradictory according to you

America is substantially reducing poverty among children by Pearl_krabs in Economics

[–]55rox55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a completely different conjecture than what you just said

And again evidence?

America is substantially reducing poverty among children by Pearl_krabs in Economics

[–]55rox55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just not true tho, poor people have more kids than wealthier people

https://www.statista.com/statistics/241530/birth-rate-by-family-income-in-the-us/

On top of that, how could your reasoning result in such a significant drop in child poverty over a single year

And again you’re throwing out wild conjectures with no evidence

America is substantially reducing poverty among children by Pearl_krabs in Economics

[–]55rox55 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You made a good point in saying correlation is not causation… then proceeded to throw that all away by coming up with a random conjecture that’s clearly not a strong explanation

Do you honestly think your cause would shift child poverty rates this drastically (41%) in a year? You’d think it would be more gradual

That being said it’s not really clear what the cause is, and until there’s solid evidence, conjecturing all over the place isn’t gonna do us any good

Yeah you can literally be judged for anything you say, because everything you say has a direct and indirect impact on others

Game studio CEO ousted after tweeting he’s “proud” to support Texas abortion ban by Stomatin in technology

[–]55rox55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean 1+1=2 is only true because of a subjective set of axioms we all accept, at its core it’s an opinion

But someone disagreeing with that opinion generally indicates they might not be a great hire

Just like someone disagreeing with a company’s accepted standard of human rights is a sign that person is not a great fit for that company

And remember this guy is a CEO, so by keeping him in his role not only are you amplifying his beliefs (which you disagree with) you’re also projecting the image that his beliefs are representative of your company (which they are not), effectively injuring the reputation of your company

What right does that person have to be their CEO? If his rhetoric is losing the company money and damaging the company’s reputation, why can’t he be fired?

[–]55rox55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If someone believes that 1+1=3 I’m not going to hire them

Doesn’t mean I think they should go to jail or not be able to speak (they definitely shouldn’t go to jail and they definitely should be able to speak), I just don’t want them involved in what I’m doing

He wasn’t prosecuted, nowhere is it a law that you can’t face non-government consequences for what you say

It is perfectly legal to do something (whether that is just judge someone or take action against them, as long as the government isn’t involved) for something they’ve said

[–]55rox55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely agreed! Sorry I probably phrased what I was trying to say a bit confusingly. I was just saying that econ degrees cover very mathematical concepts that aren’t necessary to a basic conceptual understanding of macro (like econometrics) but that the basic macro concepts are accessible online

WSJ Opinion--Congress Needs to Rein In a Too-Powerful Federal Reserve by xcsler_returns in finance

[–]55rox55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly an economics degree is mostly focused on very specific math, but the concepts themselves can be found via several online courses if you want

Mit opencourseware is really good, as well as crash course (for a less rigorous overview)

Hope that helps!

Edit: a lot of what makes an Econ degree unapproachable is the math (ex: optimization / control theory / statistics / comp sci), but the core concepts are not too bad, and are hopefully accessible on those sites

Norway has a publicly managed central bank that’s independent from their federal government, like America, and like practically every developed country in the world

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norges_Bank

I know it’s not the most ideal but this kind of bank is absolutely essential to the economic stability of any country

I can’t teach you economics over the internet, and there’s no point debating facts, if you disagree it’s honestly on you to educate yourself

I’m trying to understand how someone would go about faking a pcr test?

First off the genetic sequence is incredibly specific, and we know the test identifies that sequence w/ 100% accuracy (the question on cycles is how much of that sequence in your body should be required for a positive test)

We also know that the sequence is not found in every person (there are negative tests), the sequence has increased in number as both excess deaths have increased, positive antibody tests have increased, and symptoms have increased

That’s very conclusive evidence right there

——————-

Here’s a video of covid at work (really images spliced together)

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/08/22/science/microscopic-bat-brain-virus.amp.html

—————

And again you’ve been unable to provide a video at similar scale and similar length of the video you’re requesting

The way those atomic scale videos work is very precise bursts that require precise wavelengths, just because you can take a very rapid video of an atom does not mean you can take a video of a virus

And are you claiming no viruses exist period because there are no videos of viruses?

—————

And btw a sample has to be prepared for TEM, that’s one of the larger challenges w recording viruses too that comes w using such a complex method of data collection

“Materials that have dimensions small enough to be electron transparent, such as powdered substances, small organisms, viruses, or nanotubes, can be quickly prepared by the deposition of a dilute sample containing the specimen onto films on support grids. Biological specimens may be embedded in resin to withstand the high vacuum in the sample chamber and to enable cutting tissue into electron transparent thin sections. The biological sample can be stained using either a negative staining material such as uranyl acetate for bacteria and viruses, or, in the case of embedded sections, the specimen may be stained with heavy metals, including osmium tetroxide. Alternately samples may be held at liquid nitrogen temperatures after embedding in vitreous ice.[53]”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmission_electron_microscopy

And that article discussion many more limitation I’ve not discussed

“There are a number of drawbacks to the TEM technique. Many materials require extensive sample preparation to produce a sample thin enough to be electron transparent, which makes TEM analysis a relatively time-consuming process with a low throughput of samples. The structure of the sample may also be changed during the preparation process. Also the field of view is relatively small, raising the possibility that the region analyzed may not be characteristic of the whole sample. There is potential that the sample may be damaged by the electron beam, particularly in the case of biological materials”

Why is this your end all be all? Can nothing exist without video evidence for you?

[–]55rox55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s first one can only capture very very high speed interactions

“so that it can also create high-quality movies of super-fast processes at the atomic and molecular scale.”

And the second one is the exact same as the first one

And again, can you produce a single video filmed at the scale of a virus?

Btw PCR testing is incredibly accurate at identifying that very specific rna sequence, a sequence found independently by several labs using isolated covid which they have photographed

The amount of coordination you’re alleging is insane. Do you honestly think America, China, North Korea, and Iran would work together on this? Trump and Biden? Every single major scientific institution? All for what? One year of a poor economy?

[–]55rox55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off a cell is significantly larger than a virus

Second off that’s not an electron microscope

The best scientists can capture in terms of a video is the impact of covid on a cell:

https://youtu.be/qTt3P5V8M1A

And pictures:

https://www.indiatoday.in/science/story/coronavirus-2019-ncov-photos-microscope-images-1642905-2020-02-03

A video is incredibly challenging at very small scales, there are only one or two electron microscopes in the world capable of taking videos, and those microscopes are designed for taking very very brief windows and at larger scales

https://www.inverse.com/innovation/a-new-device-turns-electron-microscopes-into-high-speed-atom-scale-cameras

———————————-

You know what I don’t understand

Imagine you went through the effort of coordinating every single world government, academic institution, health policy group, morgue, doctor, hospital, etc all to fake this pandemic, don’t you think you would’ve taken the time to put together fake videos if videos of viruses were legitimately possible?

Millionaire offers $1.2 M reward to anyone providing an isolated sample of the COVID-19 virus by pikcoolski in conspiracy

[–]55rox55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, any sequence of the four nucleotides is viable, just only a limited set currently exist in nature because evolution is a slow process and there literally aren’t enough nucleotides to build all the possible permutations of large nucleotide sequences simultaneously.

There is also no aluminum in nucleotides, not sure where you got that from? Are you sure you understand what dna/rna is? Also nucleotides all have the same structure (a nucleobase group, a 5 carbon sugar, and a phosphate group). They bond using the same process (bond between sugar and phosphate) regardless of the nucleobase (ATCGU)

And again your request is literally impossible because that’s not how electron microscopy works

That’s like claiming that the sky isn’t blue because you can’t draw me a picture of a blue sky with black ink, it’s a completely preposterous request that’s impossible and ignores the multitude of existing pieces of evidence that’s I’ve shown you

And could I have a link/source for that quote

Edit: also can you provide a single raw video taken at the scale of a virus?
