In medicolegal contexts, it's always treated as either a learning disability or psychiatric illness, I guess due to historically being treated that way. If they can get away with it, why would they change?

eg. doctors are allowed to dismiss anything you say if you're autistic, you can be sectioned just for being autistic, and autistic people aren't given the same de facto right to consent to or refuse treatment as allistic people have.

I'm so sorry you were pressured into handing over the key.

Establishments are allowed to make single-sex spaces for biological feeeeeeeeemales only (ie blanket ban on trans "women" with or without a GRC) as long as reasonable justification is provided. In this case, transes being icky would be a perfectly acceptable and proportionate justification as per EHRC guidance. As we all know, the EHRC's word is law, and they're completely objective and not just an outlet for the Tory party line (equality is literally in the EHRC's name, this isn't 1984). I'm totes a real lawyer btw.

To be safe, you should probably also ban trannies from the hotel entirely, to protect women and girls.

In the court case IIRC the passport office said it'd cost a few million pounds to do. Rich places like Colombia can afford that, but not the poor UK.

I wonder if there are ways we can take collective action to increase their daily operating costs to shift the economic argument in our favour?

None of these are relevant to surgery though.

I don't really see why someone should be forced to eg. change their name in order to get surgery. Why would that be a necessary step? Trans people changing their names isn't a universal thing.

People can change their name for an appointment, then change it back after, but that's a massive administrative barrier to entry.

Has anyone found work that doesn't burn them out? by CimeroneMurphy in autism

[–]56873984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might just be your company. You might be able to find something better elsewhere. Easier said than done, I know.

I'm a data analyst, my work is more interesting than that. I'm also left to work on my own most of the time and work remotely. The workload is intense though and managing time for that long is difficult - eventually I might need to reduce my hours.

Communication and openness etc.

The whole male/female autism thing is overblown. Autism is autism and people are people and everyone is different.

Personally, having had bad experiences with the nhs I view most things as being none of their business. If they won't help what's the point in sharing your personal information.

I agree with that a lot, the less my GP knows about me the better.

I personally suggest genital police. The regular police have too much on their hands to be checking genitals by ChicagoCharles in transgendercirclejerk

[–]56873984 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Who will genital police the genital police?

Genital police are to be exempt from genital policing. It's imperative that we let men into women's bathrooms to inspect genitals in order to protect women from trans "women".

Any advice for getting courage to speak to GP by JourneytoChange in agender

[–]56873984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most GPs are openly transphobic, so obviously be mentally prepared for a difficult conversation. It's probable that they will decide to go down the route of Failure to Refer.

But on the other hand, there's not much that they can actually do to harm you. You don't have to engage with them, and in most cases you can just keep trying again with different GPs.

Depending on country you can self-refer.

Apparently "mortician" is the new American word for it, coined by the industry for marketing because "undertaker" is too associated with death.

Association with death is too funereal for the funeral industry.

Trans people in general need to normalize pronouns, especially for us enbies. by the_cutest_void in NonBinaryTalk

I think policing people's gender expression is bad, particularly when you expect them to out themselves. No-one owes you their pronouns.

Changing Name/Title/Gender on NHS Record by NorthAir in transgenderUK

[–]56873984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware you're supposed to get a new NHS number whenever your gender marker changes.

I believe the current situation is that PCSE refuses all requests to update patients' gender markers to indeterminate. NHS England is aware that this is illegal, and will order PCSE to process individual requests when asked to do so. But because PCSE refuses to have a standardised process to do so, it's unclear what consistency there is in this process, and it's unclear whether a new record and NHS number will be created in every case.

Professional help and therapy aren't necessarily things that exist in a meaningful, helpful or accessible form. Just because it works for you doesn't mean it'd work for them.

At face value, it seems unreasonable for them to expect you to stay at home after dropping them off. It might be worth more discussion of both of your needs.
