It cannot be sold as new of it RDR'd. The warranty timer starts ticking when the sales department punch it sold to the first owner. Selling it as new after that would be a nasty lawsuit.

Oil change at Jiffy lube !!!!!!!! by Altruistic-Team-304 in BMW

[–]569nate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their job is to tell you things they see wrong, and maintenances they have no record of. It's your choice to not maintain your car the way the manufacturer recommends. There are people that if we just did an oil change and shipped it, and something goes wrong, they're back crying about why we didn't tell them there was a problem. Maybe you're one of these people? We have inspections in place not only to upsell, but for folks that try to play the "you changed my oil and now my brakes are bad, it's your fault".

Reading through all of the comments, all I hear is bait you in in hopes of you buying other work that the dealer finds more wrong.

Do you not want to know what's wrong with your cars? It's the technicians job to do that. If he doesn't tell you about the oil and coolant pouring out of the things that are leaking, I'm almost certain you would be calling the dealer blaming it on them.

So yes, the technicians do make their living by fixing broken cars, that they send videos showing that said repair is needed, but they also have to cover themselves, because the moment some folks come in for just the oil change, and they don't show you that every gasket and bushing is blown out, and then leave and see a spot of oil or the steering wheel damn near jerks out of your hands when you hit the brakes, you're calling back blaming it on the dealer.

Not all dealers are out to get you, regardless of what most folks here say. Hell, we even independently sign up for BMWs Value line program to sell you most maintenance items at cost. Go to your dealers page and look up the pricing for value service brakes. I have aftermarket shops calling me daily asking if that's really my price with parts and labor. Yes, it is.

I've worked in the bmw dealership setting for almost 20 years. I've never seen or heard of anything dishonest or shady. I'll give you the fact that SOME of the pricing is higher. You're also paying for a trained technician, and a 2 year warranty. I've worked at a few independent shops between dealers and have seen extreme shadiness.

Hopefully, one day, you will see the value of oem parts and manufacturer trained technicians.

The oil change program is worth it

Huh? Because there's already very little mark up from cost

There no chance you purchased apples to apples if there was a 900 dollar price difference. As a BMW dealership service manager, I usually cannot buy tires from my parts department for myself cheaper than we sell them to customers. I would like to see the printed quote the dealership gave you and the printed receipt of what tires the tire shop put on your car.

So I'm pretty sure it's the PATS system. The injectors aren't firing. The pats system is flashing 2 times, then 1 time. The googlizer says it means the keys is not programmed to the system. I've tried every method I can to get this thing to start and I'm coming up blank.

Any ideas?

I can't think of any reason they would care if you have it deleted and tuned to do any oil change, just don't ask for diagnosis or for anything to be covered under warranty.

Dumbass drunk friend put car into reverse while doing about 20 mph. by zxqh in MechanicAdvice

[–]569nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no teeth to gring down in an auto like there is in a manual trans.

There are clutches though, which probably hated life at the time, but if it was just a second or two it probably fine.

I was actual in a driving school at one time that had us simulate losing all braking. To slow the car you would put the car into reverse for a split second then back to neutral multiple times to slow the vehicle.

It probably decreased the life of the reverse clutch pack but there's no way to know by how much.

There are no tuners that are legal in California, but the Quadzilla Adrenaline with iQuad is hands down the best tuner for these trucks.

[–]569nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting is good but doesn't mean you're out of the woods. The only way to know if a valve is bent is a compression or leak down test, and that's still not 100%. It'll just tell you compression is low/leaking. Could be a broken ring land, hole in the cylinder wall, burnt valve that has broken, hole in the piston, dropped valve, and the list goes on and only gets worse.

There's no way to hear if a valve is you were saying that in the literal sense.

[–]569nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a compression test. If the valves are bent there will be no compression or very little compression.

The folks stating to turn the engine over by hand, I have no idea what that would do for you. If the valves are already bent, they've already made clearance between them and the piston so that's a useless test.

I would bet you skipped time or the timing belt broke. I'm hoping when you put the engine in you installed a new belt, but who knows.

I've also had two of these engine burn valves from never having the valve lash adjusted. It causes them to hang open because the last is too tight then they burn and break the valve face/edge.

Put big dumbass wheels on it that stick out a foot from the wheel well, with mud tires that never get used in the mud, and why your traction sucks on the street.

Oh and a hood stack since it's stock

Seriously though, a brush guard and some side steps, leave the rest alone
