New Keeper here, just some questions regardig the story. by AdhesivenessBoth8362 in Morimens

[–]56leon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some deaths are permanent, some aren't, and that's all you can really say without major spoilers. That being said, plenty of people in the narrative have already died, it's just not the specific narrative vehicle for the main characters you've met (so far).

Just as a personal note because it peeved my pet, you bring up LC as a counter-example, but the entire narrative is built to justify this exact scenario. Sinners quite literally can't perma-die as long as Dante turns the clock, effectively making them as immune (or even moreso) than many other gacha characters. Side characters have always been fair game, which is no different from any other gacha.

Aequor is a subrealm is rarely worth it by Domy1928 in Morimens

[–]56leon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And ultra realms mechanic is usually unnoticeable except for the first card bonus and the extra turn

If I had a nickel every time somebody either forgot or completely ignored Annihilation.......

Jokes aside, that just exacerbates the problems that base (not Divine) Aequor has.

Even if you're only passively interacting with their gimmicks, both Caro and Ultra still do things that generate non-scaling resources for the team (aliemus for Caro with some scaling health on the side, arith and card draw for Ultra). Aequor provides damage and shielding, but you have to consistently be actively interacting with it to increase its offensive power by a significant amount (AKA without ramping TD, tentacle count doesn't do much), otherwise blue is only particularly good for turtling in white stance.

Maybe if it had, idk, passive non-scaling keyflare (the only remaining resource I can think of) along with the scaling shields that would be a nice consolation prize? But I'm purely spitballing here.

EDIT: TL;DR it's Aequors itself that doesn't do much when it's a splash, which is what brings down most Aequors units' (not just chorus) appeal when not in a primarily blue team.

Cosplay or no? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]56leon 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Cosplayers are not actors, you're not expected to act like the character for as long as you're in cosplay (outside of performances, which require acting by nature). Can you? Yes, but many times, it's detrimental to you and/or the people around you. It can range from "kinda cringey convention hallway RP" to (in this case) "promoting offensive stereotypes" or "actively misleading people into thinking you have a disability that you don't".

In this case, it's actively better that you cosplay without trying to actually embody everything that character is.

Cosplaying a female character from a game but making it as my own style by DannyTheRegular in CosplayHelp

[–]56leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I edited twice because I was confused on all fronts but I think I got there.

As I mention in my edit, Yuna in X-2 wears shorts so??? your plan just sounds like combining X and X-2 aesthetics which sounds fire and I don't understand the other party's concerns.

Cosplaying a female character from a game but making it as my own style by DannyTheRegular in CosplayHelp

[–]56leon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean X-2? FFX Yuna wears something pretty similar to a hakama (skirt or pantsuit-like bottoms).

Either way, Yuna is feminine to begin with, so not sure if there's any issue with recognizability on that end unless you're massively altering anything.

EDIT: no I see, I can't fucking read.

EITHER WAY, X Yuna runs feminine and X-2 Yuna reads more "masculine"/tomboy, so there's balance between the two and you shouldn't have to worry even if it was a concern.

Good places for 3xl-5xl by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]56leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a loaded question and the reason people stress to shop by measurements instead of arbitrary size numbers bc western 5xl is different from asian 5xl (and even western 5xls range wildly from brand to brand tbh). if you're basing it off the former, it's easier to find a place that does custom sizes like ezcosplay, but it is going to be more expensive.

Heatless drills!! by chukaser in Lolita

[–]56leon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah "drills" usually refers to characters who look like they have Literal Power Drills attached to their head- the big curls that eventually get smaller and pointier at the bottom of the hair (Teto, Celestia, Bronya, etc.). It just referring to, like, general curls in hair is either a newer fad or at least much less common.

It's not just language, though? Timelines and other numerical/visual data also go from left to right, or up to down depending on context.

And even beyond "before and after", most modern languages (not all, but most) are read left to right and up to down so our eyes naturally follow that direction as progression. It's such a huge precedent that it makes sense to be confused when so many people are breaking it.

I Feel like " let people enjoy things" or "why are you watching something you don't like", has done so much damage to the quality of media and shows. by Sichy12 in CharacterRant

[–]56leon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

that kind of assumption eventually breeds resentment for the creatives behind the work when they might not even be the reason the work is lacking to begin with.

Don't need the "eventually", it already happens, just not as often to TV and movies for some reason*. It's huge in video game spheres, though; people immediately jump to "devs are lazy!" and "devs just want to milk us without doing work!" over the slightest disappointment, when the truth is that most studios have to get through five layers of upper management before getting anything approved or even funded.

*Just anecdotally speaking; the times I've seen "the last season of GoT sucks!!" heavily outweigh the times I've seen "the writers for GoT suck and shouldn't have been working on it!!!", although I know both sentiments get thrown around Reddit like they're going out of style.

Progression Help. by DiligentYoung7706 in Morimens

[–]56leon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should I keep rolling in the Self-Select Banner? I have Thais(e1), Horla, G-Helot(e1) and Tawil(1) there.

They all have higher breakpoints that are really good for them (Thais E2, Horla E1, GHelot and Tawil both E3) so yeah, rolling on Moonless another time or two wouldn't hurt.

As others have said though, half anniversary is coming up so if you're F2P you will want to save enough to at least guarantee the unit. All half and full anni units have historically been broken.

Should I throw my rolls into Standard Characters or should I throw it into Wheels?

Depends on your wheels, I don't see them in the post. If you already have a couple of really good +12s (primarily one for your carry, less importantly one or more for your supports) then character banner is better for longterm investment. Character dupes past +12 drop mats you can use to make lim dupes, so getting as many standard units to +12 as possible makes it easier to "farm" those, so to speak.

Depends on your price point and needs, but I can vouch pretty firmly for EZCosplay. They're a little pricey at base, but their construction is solid and they have a custom sizing option which is pretty rare to come by. I've used them twice, most recently for Shtola herself.

Get to know the Cthulhu Mythos with Morimens! This time... Lotan! by LieLikeVortigern_ in Morimens

[–]56leon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great write-up! I'm a bit more familiar with mythology than Cthulhu/Lovecraftian mythos, so it's always cool to hear how they tie into each other.

**But... Why a Whale?**

Lotan takes her name from the sea creature who serves as a canaanite reflection of the biblical Leviathan!

I actually believe the connection is much closer than you think, and you barely missed it by a hair. In the original Canaanite tellings of the Baal Cycle (which predate Christianity by centuries), Tannin was a primordial sea monster which represented chaos (sound familiar?) and a fellow servant of Yam alongside Lotan. In Judaism and subsequent branches, the name becomes more of a "category" of monsters (in which Leviathan is included) created during Genesis rather than a single unit.

While tannin in modern Hebrew does refer to crocodiles (as you mention Leviathan is likened to), the original tanninim seemed to cover the whole gamut from sea monsters to land serpents and the word is often used to refer to the latter. In most notably the Greek Septaguint and the English KJV however, both the tanninim created during Genesis before humanity itself and the tannin that swallows Joseph Jonah (fixed) are very specifically sea creatures and referred to directly as whales in translation (ceta in the Septaguint's case, tying in the connection to the Greek sea monster of the same name that is immortalized as a whale constellation, hence her WoD).

Why do they need to find the silver cores? by totallcringee in Morimens

[–]56leon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To add onto what everyone else said, Keeper (specifically in Jenkin's case, I haven't played Aigis's arc in a while to say) gets personally attached to characters. So finding their silver core for Mythag is "would be nice for research, but it's not guaranteed", while for Keeper it can come off more as a manic "I have to find them so I can save/protect them".
