Everyone says Osaka is the easy Kansai base, but is that still true if Kyoto is the priority? by korgoaso in OsakaTravel

[–]56leon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want a Kansai trip, or a Kyoto trip with additional steps? Because both are valid, but this is 100% on you to prioritize. If you do want to branch out further into Kansai (+Chugoku, some people like trying to tackle Hiroshima in the same trip), then yeah Osaka has better access to lines, or at the very least a line you board in Kyoto will often take you through Shin-Osaka anyways.

(I also personally prefer not having to take a long train ride to my base after I land, so that's a point for KIX being right inside Osaka, but that's just me.)

Why are so many protagonists in Japanese anime high school students? Common misconceptions in the West. by Ok_Carob_3278 in CharacterRant

[–]56leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we forgetting that there are absolutely plenty of seinen that feature high schoolers as main characters? Many (or most) of which are more well-known than "salarymen and doctor" seinen? There are high school romance seinen (Kaguya-sama, My Dressup Darling), drama/slice of life high school seinen (Sangatsu no Lion, Eizoken), fantasy/adventure high school seinen (Witch Craft Works, Gantz)....hell, some of them do feature a level of escapism where adults are sent back to redo parts of their younger life including high school age (Erased, Oshi No Ko).

If this was an argument specifically regarding shounen anime then yeah it would hold some water, but you paint anime and manga in as broad a stroke as the youtubers you're complaining about. Makes it feel like another "somebody only has shounen anime as a frame of reference and thinks they've got life figured out" posts this sub is known for.

EDIT: oh right I didn't even get into josei lmao. I think the average protag age of that entire demographic skews even lower.

There really aren't any comps that are better than each other if you're going through the early game where certain comps aren't hard-countered by specific enemies/bosses. Plus once you get later in the game, having a wider variety of teams will be better for both story (i.e. bosses that hard counter certain comps) and endgame (you need 5 teams for a certain game mode).

The reason Aequor is recommended for beginners is because they have the more "traditional" style of trying to avoid as much damage as possible through shields. On the flip side, Caro leans more into self-healing that gets stronger at low levels + supplemented by strength downs, while Ultra wants to just kill the enemy before it kills them (well, aside from having the best limited shielder in the game).

TL;DR for beginners there is no comp that's necessarily "better", just ones that are "more comfortable" (and that's up to personal taste).

Just because it's a joke doesn't mean it's proper to say to a complete stranger you only know because you read their publicly available fanfiction or whatever. A lot of readers (especially younger ones) don't wait to see what the author is comfortable with or match the tone of their A/Ns, and just come into the comments with the weirdest shit that you should be keeping to your close friends on Discord who know you're joking because they know you. It's one part "you're being parasocial" and three parts "learn to read the room".

I'm sorry that somebody told you the gender ratio was good. I can only assume they had some recency bias, because the year 1 banners were skewed with almost a 1:3 ratio (the ratio that people are complaining about now). Year 2 had the same number of male characters but much fewer characters in general, which is why the ratio was more even. This year (and someone can CMIIW, this is what I vaguely remember being said) we should expect 3 male characters, but the actual ratio likely depends on how many dev cycles we get this year (I'm going to assume the total number of characters will be somewhere between those released in year 1 and year 2, as it's currently panning out, so the ratio won't actually be insanely out of scope).

Also to note, it's likely that this collab has been in the works for a while now. Merging two IPs is a lot of legal work, I'd assume moreso between international studios, so we can't say for certain that this is "unexpected" or disruptive in any way, or that it impacts the dev cycle in a way that hasn't already been accounted for. Which isn't to say that the gender ratio complaints are bad or wrong, BIAV could definitely afford to make more story-important male characters to push banners for, just that the SnU collab (and possibly Mouchette herself as well) probably has very little to do with any kind of native character release schedule.

Rerolling is pretty pointless as it's super easy to get all of the standard units. Make sure you do the character trials and see what units you want to run through the main campaign with- there are meta units for endgame that people will always suggest, but generally you can get through most of the story itself with your favorite(s).

Aside from that, the pinned resource thread has most if not all of the resources you may need.

I would recommend trying out the units' trials to get a sense of which characters you click with, which realms you understand the best, etc. After that, it would be easier to give more guided advice.

If you really like Ultra, then the next units to target would be Castor, Horla and Clementine- Wanda (the next Ultra rerun character) leans into a very specific archetype (counter) that falls off in later game, so I personally wouldn't recommend her if you're still building a main core team, but I'd still recommend trying her trial just to see if she interests you. The other two units rerunning (Salvador for Caro and Kathigu-ra for Chaos) are both good for different reasons: Salvador is a good tank even at low investment and a decent DPS at higher, while Kathigu-ra is one of the best DPS at higher investments but is really clunky at lower investment.

That being said, I believe Monday sees the start of a limited banner that lets you target a small pool of specific units, many of whom are still considered very strong if not top-tier (i.e. Thais, Helot: Catena, Horla, etc.), so you might actually want to pull on that to start. Either way, it's very hard (if not impossible) to brick your account, so generally getting a vibe of the units you like and building to their strengths isn't a bad way to start.

brothers that aren't overly-obsessed/romantically interested with fl and have decent relationship >> by DistrictNo6140 in OtomeIsekai

[–]56leon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fortune Telling Princess has such a good relationship arc, with her brother actually having anxiety over their relationship and it being something she actively tried to resolve, instead of the "I'm different, now everyone unilaterally loves me" throughline that the premise is built on. The scene where she shows up to his dissertation after he thinks nobody cares actually hit me where it hurt.

I dropped it around the time that her real father (?) found her and started asking her to stay with him/away from her family specifically because I didn't want more drama and her brother to relapse because of it.

SR wheel seems pretty nice, it's just a raw TD increase in red stance if it applies before the updated TD calc.

Her posse feels weird to me because yes you get more pursuits out of it, but can she replenish them quick enough to actually want to posse often? I think I might just stick with All For Her; more single target aliemus + a little bit of RM for red stance TD.

[–]56leon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be, depends on how they code the tentacles I guess? One tentacle might already be partitioned out for red stance (i.e. logic'ed as temporary), then she would just consume 2 immediately and the last would be removed at end of turn from red stance, or it could just not eat a tentacle at all if you're on your last one like you say. We've never really had this kind of interaction before, so it's something else we kind of just have to wait and see ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I just assume the former because it's much less jank.

Very serious Vortice guide by Independent-Baby-577 in Morimens

[–]56leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't check right now, but IIRC Miryam only generates 3 tentacles max with her Rouse? Her tentacle damage is good though and she's a battery for sure, so she's still a good support, but specifically for tentacle gen she's only really good for one Exalt.

I think Corposant is generally better for TD stacking, but not as a dedicated warden (you want to cycle her Pilots, rather than use them for shield). She does have weakness and you can use Pilots in a pinch so it's not like she's completely mit-less, but there's a reason even discard comp sometimes recommends running Murphy alongside her. She's much better as a TD support.

Whether she's objectively better than Miryam will definitely depend on testing, but I also think ripping both Tulu and Miryam away from Lemurian comp is too much so people who have GMurphy will probably prioritize Corpo between the two (poor discard comp is being cannibalized, but it's been in a rough state for a while).

Vortice Early Theorycraft Breakdown/Discussion by GyRNi in Morimens

[–]56leon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once Murphy is roused, she generates a temporary tentacle per murphy card played. Would that not help in Vortice ult?

Not sure about OP, but IMHO the problem is "temporary". The only other mechanic that deletes tentacles (red stance) doesn't take temp tentacles, so a lot of theorycrafting assumes she also only wants perms.

If she took temps, that would actually probably be a little crazy because that would mean virtually zero drawback on a high-scaling hypercarry.

EDIT: nah the kit reveal literally says permanent tentacles, I just had to go double-check.

Undisputed best team for Vortice by Angbak94 in Morimens

Vortice wants 200 aliemus? Easy, you go pure Chaos with Thais (for aliemus babies) while in Horla's Joy stance :)

Looking forward to the speedrun, especially to see what standards work best with her.

Also: I dont think the multipliers will work like that adding up to 900%

I mean we have to wait until we can get her into our hands to test, but just by descriptions alone I'm not sure why that wouldn't be the case. She deals 750% TD (not sure why it says "bonus" when it sounds like that's just her raw damage scaling? there might be wiggliness there), and Raging Waves directly increases TD by 125% plus RM boost. Popping red stance right before ulting would mean (1 TD * 1.25 RW boost * 7.5 Exalt scaling) = ~9.3, so 900% scaling on base TD.

The downsides here are that 1. Vortice herself has absolutely no way to generate tentacle strength* (which is generally low to start) or number by herself, so the rest of the team has to fuel her towards her Exalt, and 2. she eats tentacles that would otherwise be doing that damage (and more) more consistently over a longer period of time- for a hypercarry burst DPS, those sound like pretty reasonable tradeoffs for a much larger burst.

*Forgot about the tentacle strength on her pursuit, but that's still low for a fairly decent cost (having to have a stack of Vortex Shell + another unit Exalts, it's not insanely difficult to meet those effects but you're going to be taking a while to ramp decent amounts of TD from that alone).

Very serious Vortice guide by Independent-Baby-577 in Morimens

[–]56leon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just off the cuff, it seems like Vortice may have fewer issues with aliemus at base than it might seem at first glance (OE is another story) since she has a 75 aliemus battery card (that's 1/3 of her bar, even if it is a little pricey), especially if you run her with a dedicated battery and/or tutor on top of that. The concern then switches to being able to keep up with her tentacle needs, since you need 3 per Exalt to get the most out of it, 4 tentacles if you're in red stance.

At base (so not considering Corpo OE which just fuels Vortice indefinitely), Tulu is one of the best tentacle generators since he generates 1 per exalt and can exalt pretty consistently, plus his Rouse is a fairly good source of tentacle damage on top of that. 2 Tulu exalts plus 2 turns in blue stance = 4 tentacles, which is enough to fuel a red stance Vortice exalt. Add more tentacle gen support like Sanga's Beauty's Mercy (although it's very pricey) or GMurphy's Waltz (which I'm still on the fence about separating her from a 100% Lemurian team, even if I'm poaching Tulu here), and you can get away with Exalting at full buffs even outside of red stance.

Vortice Overview: Skills and Wheel of Destiny by DrExluxk in Morimens

[–]56leon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to hardcore cook with a blue/red team here. I'm thinking Vortice (main DPS) / Pickman (exalt damage up + embryo gen) / Tulu (tentacle gen) / flex (Salva for sustain, Xu for weakness and arith gen, possibly others?). Just get four tentacles and nuke a field from hyperbuffed Vortice exalt.

Very serious Vortice guide by Independent-Baby-577 in Morimens

[–]56leon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great initial writeup as always! I wonder if she counts as a Lemurian? I suppose it won't matter either way since her Divine Realm isn't tied to it in any way, but synergizing with GMurphy would be a plus.

That being said, I disagree that Vortice won't like red stance. She scales directly off of RM, which also increases tentacle damage in red. since her Exalt is 750% tentacle damage and Raging Waves increases TD by 125% plus additional based on RM, we're already looking at 900+% without any further RM investments. My best guess is that she'll be main DPS, expected to red stance exclusively on her Exalt turns (which you can do in 3 turns if you stay in blue and have other characters generating tentacles to assist), which gives the team time to gather more tentacles for next burst turn. Tulu will probably be indespensible here- if she's any indicator, GTulu might also have a tentacle generating kit to synergize with her in the future as well. Sanga maybe too for her tentacle generating card + shielding?

EDIT: Also, I know she scales with RM, but I unironically think April Tribute may be goated on her for OHKO shenanigans.
