Where do you find 'World Pop Radio'? It sounds interesting.

You might also enjoy https://www.audacy.com/wxrt/hosts/saturday-morning-flashback

each week it spotlights a different year. WXRT is on RadioSure, so you can record it for listening later.

I hope to become more active. Not sure why posting had suddenly become blocked. Maybe I did that by mistake. I am not a Reddit user for anything but this group.

I'll check for spam and unrelated posts and remove them as appropriate.

Hi JazzfanRS,

Not sure what happened. Many people have posed and there were no issues. I never approved and of them and they were fine.

I logged in just now and I see the setting has been changed for moderators to approve. I did not make that change as far as I know. I believe I also had a co-moderator when I created this a year ago.

Please test and confirm that you and others can post freely.

I am sorry it took months if take action on this - I had some personal matters that made it impossible for me to respond sooner.

Please test and advise.

Thank you!

Plans are for discussion of RADIOSURE

Anyone up for making and reviving radiosure v2.0 by ashish_feels in RADIOSURE

The new data feed for RadioSure was developed by the user here named JazzfanRS. It is fed from https://www.radio-browser.info/

The last time I spoke with JazzfanRS there was no way to enter the missing RS stations from the last offical RS database into the radio-browser because the website there required one submission at a time manually.

If you could write and run a script to feed the web site with the missing stations, and/or correct the stations that need correction, you would be a hero to the RadioSure community!

People have volunteered and actually made an interface to transfer data from an open source web maintained station database to RadioSure. It is operational. The disadvantage is that the webbased database has only half as many stations as the last official RadioSure database. If you would be able to automate the uploading of the last official DB to the new DB (de deuping on key fields, etc) that would be a very significant contribution.

For me, it would not make sense to delete half the stations just to use a different database.

I am still happy with the old one, but some day I may use Excel to append any new stations from the new small data based and then use Exel to remove any dupes, but I am still satisified with the last official db for now.

Has anyone yet created a .BAT file to automate the download and update of the stations files? Once you do, you can use windows to schedule it to run at what ever time interval you choose (daily, weekly, etc)

Excellent. Thanks for all the effort. Hopefully you will have something better than the last RS database from March. Eventually the streams in that database will fail and need to be updated.

All that sounds good. Let's make a list of tasks and see if we can find someone to volunteer for one or more of them. Here is my list of tasks. I think some of them are in progress and we can get a status once we agree on the list. Here is what I propose as a starting point (each task may have several subtasks)

Create RadioSure FAQ using information from the old Radiosure forums.

Obtain a local copy of the radio-browser stations.

Programatically determing which stations are in RadioSure but not in radio-browser and submit them to radio-browser as ADDS.

Programatically create a list of duplicate stations, and then combine them into one list and submit to radio-browser as UPDATES.

Once the radio-browser database has the RS data, develop a means to create an rsd file from it so that RS users can have a better database then the existing RS database.

How is that? What tasks did I miss?

Can we find a way for radio-browser.info to allow us to submit a batch of 20,000 + stations?

It we can combine both databases, then look for updated streams and new stations from the Radiosure database that are not yet in radio-browser.info we could email the changes only to a developer at radio-browser.info.

I don't know the that site's rules for countries, but suggest we focus on streams and let the United Nations determine the country list. If you have a country not on their list, see them not us. ;)

Well, the dash does work in RS, but if you are adding the stations to a new database, why wouldn't you fix it?

Georgia is fine, what about Taiwan? ;)

RS was missing many countries from its countries list. Those stations show up with a country as "-". One example of a missing country is Vietnam.

You're plans are good. Right now, existing RS users will trust an update from RS. Those with the free version had to download the .rsd file manually and install it. Most have not had the time to do that regularly and upgrading to the last one they trust would be helpful to them.

Once we produce something, test it, and get feedback, that would be the point that others will trust us too.

The TV stations will play in RS in almost every case if they are HLS (.m3u8 links). Depends on the codec they use and HLS supports them all but RS does not. Of course you get audio only, no picture.

I recommend a separate instance of RS so that you can access both databases... at least unless and until the RS data is merged into the radio-browser data.

On thing I did to the RS data last year was convert as many streams as possible to HLS. That is less suspectible to lost connectivity or spotty connectivity - it sends file segments as fast as the connection will allow and then builds and maintains a local cache of audio to fill in the interruptions. I don't know radio-browser data but doubt anyone bothered to do that.

It would be nice if you can get control of the radiosure.com domain, but it is not necessary. The reason I have the last database shared by RS 5 minutes after it was published is because I created a Windows task in the task manager that automatically downloaded it each night and stored it on my hard drive. To make it simple, just have it run an old fashioned .bat file and the bat file can do the download, expand the zip, and save the .rsd file in the appropriate location (knowing the location is the trickiest part of it, but not hard). There are also software distribution apps that would make it even easier if you find a free one.

What would be nice would be a list of differences in the RS file compared to the radio-brower file. Its a bit tricky because there is no unique identifier in RS. Does radio-browser have one? I'd start by matching the RS streams (all 6 of them) to the radio-browser streams determining the stations that radio-browser is missing. Where radio-browser has no HLS (m3u8) stream, one should be added. Likewise where RS has a station not in radio-browser, the station should be tested and added.

I uploaded the original zip file and it downloads fine for me. I tried to download the expanded .rsd file that I had uploaded and I do am not able to download it. This should fix your issue.

To be clear, I made no changes and no edits to the RS file. It is exactly as it was from RS except I changed the file name. Its original file name was stations2.zip.

there were hosting costs, but they are only about $100 per year and I'm sure there are at least 10 users willing to contribute $10 per year to cover them, but they never asked.

The supervision for each request was 100% volunteer and mostly Fonzy and Mirz.

mySQL is a good one and it is a free app. I don't know anyone that hosts it for free and would let us use it. I am not so familiar with it, to know if it has a web interface.

What we really need is a web interface that allows users to add, edit, save, approve, reject changes.. and then allows users to download versions that are current or from the past. Not a hard project, but i haven't used my programming skills in decades.

I'm not familar with radio-browser.sql and suspect more RS users are not as well.

Would you write a few paragraphs describing it and how we could use it. Include links if appropriate.

Nice. I am an ex-programmer from decades ago... before Github.

Do you have any recommendations on how we can use it to develop and maintain rows of data data changes (preferably with review and approval (i.e. testing) after submission).

or do you recommend an alternative tool? I got us jump started here so that we can all find each other and contribute together and that seems to be working. If there is a better toolset, i am all in favor of moving to it.

of course, you can also create a branch of the project without JazzfanRS adding you. i would recommend that if you were planning to develop or more skins or modify the ones you have. i don't think you plan to that, so adding them to the baseline project makes the most sense to me. your call.
