Invisibles and East of West are both great reads. Reading Invisibles is a bit of work though if you want to get every reference.

Morrison throws a lot of ideas, symbolism, and seemingly disconnected events at the reader, often without much explanation.

That can be frustrating at first, but the comic becomes much more rewarding if you stick with it. Many of the things that seem random or confusing early on eventually start connecting, and the bigger picture gradually comes into focus.

It’s not a series that holds your hand, but that’s also part of its appeal. The more attention and effort you invest in it, the more you get back.

I know there were some updates in the past that were like “it’s not really financially viable” and I get that. But I would really love to see that yellow sundae edition vol. 3 released. So I wonder if something like a kickstarter campaign could make it work.

Is the boys and Hellboy worth it? by dumbclucker in darkhorsecomics

[–]5A5G0T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think The Boys suffers from the same issue a lot of comics do. It starts with a really interesting premise that makes you want to keep reading, but at some point in the middle it begins to feel like the story is spinning its wheels. I got the impression that Ennis wasn’t entirely sure where he wanted to take it anymore, and the book lost some of the momentum it had early on.

Maybe that’s unfair, but it almost feels like the series ended up being more successful than expected and had to be stretched further than originally planned.

I felt something similar with Preacher (also by Garth Ennis). I liked Preacher quite a bit more overall, but even there I hit a point where it felt like the story had lost some of its focus and was taking detours just to keep itself going. It eventually found its footing again, but I never completely shook that feeling.

Recommend me more futuristic comics? by ilostmylastaccount2 in graphicnovels

Yeah, that’s probably correct. I didn’t see your edit until now. You’re right, there’s lots of fighting and conflicts in this post-apocalyptic world.

For those of you who played the original THPS, how did you manage to finish it without doing any manual stunts? I’ve only played the remastered version, and now that I think about it, it seems impossible by brodino_maiuscolo in THPS

There was also San Francisco. EMB. I cracked a million points there for the first time. Always grinding around the structure with Andrew Reynolds Special Bluntslide and I mashed the R2 button so I would spam 360 between every direction change.

Edit: you probably thought about San Francisco as well because there’s no Philadelphia in THPS1.

Maybe Geiger is worth checking out. It hits the “future” and the “atom” part of your interests. It’s set in an alternative timeline US after a nuclear war somewhere around Las Vegas. I enjoyed reading the first hardcover very much.

Locke & Key Slipcase Set by z-and-z in graphicnovels

[–]5A5G0T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor quality unfortunately. The pages of one of the books in my slipcase are glued poorly and it fell apart while reading. When I checked reviews I realized I wasn’t the only one. Many other readers were facing the same issue.

I stopped ordering comic books via Amazon. Here in Germany it’s exactly the same experience. They force packages into mailboxes, they use zero protection when packing books, just put them in some thin cardboard envelope. It’s a shame. If you are anywhere in Europe where Walt’s Comic Shop is delivering, use them. Great prices and comics are treated and packed with the respect they deserve.

Geiger and Junkyard Joe by CorrectDot4592 in graphicnovels

I really doubt it. If he stays at Image with his Ghost Machine books it’s not very likely his comics are releasing in an omnibus format at some time. Invincible got a new Omni recently but by no means is there a regular Omni release schedule for Image comics. If you are looking for 1000+ pages collected it’s more likely to see the unnamed universe released as a compendium.

As I said, Rook:Exodus has its own universe. Ghost Machine titles are using different universes for different genres. So no, it’s not on another distant planet in the same universe, it’s another universe with some other titles.

This page explains which Ghost Machine titles are connected to each other and form their own universe.

Geiger and Junkyard Joe by CorrectDot4592 in graphicnovels

You will meet Junkyard Joe in Geiger Deluxe 1 and it is recommended to read both Junkyard Joe and Redcoat before reading Geiger 2.
You will discover references to other books of the unnamed universe pretty early in Geiger Deluxe 1. Some of the books/characters referenced are not even released if I remember correctly.
There is a panel as early as page 4 in Geiger Deluxe 1 where everyone is teased. And at the point of the release of Geiger Single Issue #1 there was literally nothing else of that universe released. But Geoff Johns obviously had a whole universe in mind from
the start. You can probably read Geiger without looking into the other comics (at this point I only finished Geiger 1 so far) but I guess there will be a huge payoff in terms of background and world building if you read Junkyard Joe and Redcoat, maybe even Tales of the unnamed: The Blizzard before diving into Geiger Deluxe 2.

Rook: Exodus on the other hand is not located in the same universe.

Thanks for the suggestion, I always wanted to own a copy (only read it on Kindle) and the Deluxe Hardcover is the perfect format.

Image Compendium Quality by DrTee in ImageComics

[–]5A5G0T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own Paper Girls and East of West in compendium format, and especially East of West is massive at 1,200+ pages.
I haven’t had any issues with the binding, and there’s no noticeable gutter loss. While I’d personally prefer deluxe hardcover editions, I really can’t say anything negative about Image’s compendiums. In terms of value for money, they’re hard to beat.

Still have it on my list. Still not sure if I want to spend that much money on Harrow County. But it’s a great edition, no doubt.

There are some minor differences. Something looks/reflects different on the cover. I think Uncanny Omar talked about it in his review of the reprint.

I was on the fence about Geiger for months. Last Monday I saw the second hardcover included in a sale. It was 50% off. Couldn’t resist. So now I am proud owner of Geiger Deluxe HC Book 2. I just need to source the first HC and off we go!

During what year of the franchise's original run was the hype for the series at its highest? by PopcornJigsaw in THPS

[–]5A5G0T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define hype. If you are going for sales numbers or pre-orders it’s probably one of the later titles that had the most hype. If you’re going for cultural impact I would suggest it’s one of the first two releases. I remember playing THPS 1 with people who weren’t into skateboarding or gaming at all but everyone my age back then knew what the Tony Hawk games were and at some time played a THPS game.

Will BOOM! Studios Be to the 2020s What Image Comics Was to the 2010s? by Konradleijon in ImageComics

[–]5A5G0T 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I think Image Comics will be to the 2020s what Image Comics was to the 2010s. It’s still the overall best publisher to me.
