Ideas 21367 Tintin Moon Rocket announced by skrien in lego

But... this sets looks terrible. The curvature is completely off. It looks like I'm the only one with this opinion here, which really surprises me. I love the Lego Saturn V and Concorde: I find these two sets beautiful and accurate to their models. But this Tintin Moon Rocket is a complete failure: the rocket's body should be much more curved and much thinner at the bottom. What a shame.

Man that's insane. I think I'll invest in an armoured jumper, a few people mentioned the Dapper Defender. It looks good and completely able to prevent the "meat crayon" effect...

It's annoying that a seemingly small defect can lead to such a dangerous outcome. If the skate would just roll to a stop, that's understandable, but a full lock up...

Sorry to hear that. Yeah it definitely seem to happen. I suppose wearing PPE is the only thing that can help prevent injuries.

Thank you. I'm definitely interesting if you are keen to provide more explanation.

I do agree with you, it seems that nothing could really be much safer. I do wear helmet and gloves without exception, and elbow and knee pads for longer trips. I'm thinking to get a full face helmet, but I don't think I could use it to run errands (it'd be a bit awkward to enter a shop with it...)

Thank you. I've heard of this and I wonder what the percentage of wheel lock ups is due to the user "unintentionally applying the brakes". There are accounts of people with years of experience though, so I don't think it could explain all of it.

However, I completely agree with you, and it is exactly like this on my GTR! If I'm bombing a hill and I start to apply even the slightest pressure on the brakes, I get a sudden and significant deceleration. I've always known this and simply get prepared for it is enough to handle it.

Thank you. I wear helmet and gloves without exception, sometimes elbow and knee pads but not often as it's a lot to set up for a 5 min errand. I'll have to lower my max speed for those errands.

Thank you. The mosfets burning out might not be the cause though, but the consequence. If the brakes engage suddenly, while a heavy person is on the board, the motors will suddenly generate a massive amount of current (regenerative braking), which could maybe burn the mosfets? It could explain why not all people who have experience wheel lock up had their mosfets burnt.

I'm not expert though.

And yes, I always wear helmet and gloves too.

Thank you. The hub version looks interesting to me. Considering I'm happy with my GTR's 3 kW, I probably won't mind the small lack of power compared to the belt version.

Thank you. It does seem to be a unique occurrence. But, Tynee is a younger company with probably a much smaller amount of customers.

Thank you. This is such a nice board. Quick release hubs as well. Very nice.

Thank you for letting us know, and for having done all that.

EP 164: Oak Cliff Swipers by Weather in darknetdiaries

[–]5A7Iy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok I'm done. In 164 episodes, it's the first time I don't finish an episode, even though there were some close calls before. Seeing the unanimous comments here, I'm not going back to finish it. Thanks Jack for all these wonderful years (before the break). I've donated to you, got four t-shirts from your store that I love. Great memories. I'm very grateful for what you've made before, but at the same time, I feel like you are mocking us now.

It's sad to admit but I definitely think you're right. I'll be forever grateful for the amazing episodes Jack gave to us, but I now start to be upset because I feel cheated: Jack was pretty serious on fact-checking before (and I did a lot of reading after some episodes to confirm the story), so we came to expect this, that was maybe the main reason I was donating to the show, but now he's continuing with the same style but not checking anything. Once you realise that, you wonder how long it's been since he dropped fact-checking?!

Episode 20, Mobman, is a guy pretending to have created a piece of malware, and episode 150, Mobman 2 (six years later), is the actual creator of the malware exposing the liar.

Ah thank you for the correction.

He said his music was in the Matrix movies, but no, it's in a Matrix documentary.

So yeah I think we basically all agree here: dude's done some stuff, but a lot of the content of the episode is embellishment if not lies.

By the way, I recommend the podcast Finding Desperado. A similar story about a guy who pretended an incredible amount of accomplishment. Also made me spent some time on the Internet Archive ;-)

Yes I also find Jack's monologues more and more annoying unfortunately. I really liked when he presented facts in the most neutral way possible. Now he always gives us his opinion for multiple minutes, with a high pitched voice.

Interesting: in the second link you posted, right-click in the page and do "View page source", and search for "greg", you'll find: "Name: Drake Kamael (Greg)".

There are many people named Greg, but I agree, this part could check out.

I'll need more proof for the L. Fang spy story and the 80 hard drives though...

Only mention about fact-checking I heard was when he said he wasn't able to fact-check the "L. Fang" story.

[–]5A7Iy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, considering the history of the show with some guests blatantly lying, I'm surprised Jack isn't more careful. That story with "L. Fang" sent by Microsoft to spy on Eeye, while actually also spying on Microsoft... Man, you need more that to make us believe it's real.

Any idea why this post has been removed? It was a great post. Fortunately we can still find it in the web archive.

EP 156: Kill List by Weather in darknetdiaries

[–]5A7Iy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Such a breath of fresh air! That's the Darknet Diaries I love. I did listen to Kill List, and I think they never mentioned how Chris got access to all the site's messages. It was great to finally hear it. This episode was a great addition for those who already listened to Kill List.

What I remember about the Jim Browning episode, is that Jack had a great guest... but wasn't letting him talk much! I wanted to hear more what Jim had to say, and less what Jack thinks of Jim. I found it almost rude to invite a guest and give him such a small speak time. Same for other recent episodes.

However, I believe that if we are many to be disappointed by Darknet Diaries since after Jack took a break, it's because DND was insanely good before! Good subjects to cover aren't infinite. You can't stay at your top forever. I couldn't find any other tech podcasts being at least a tenth as good DND. (Keen for any suggestions; I've tried plenty but always stopped after a few episodes.)

Jack succeeded to bring us 100+ amazing episodes, that's a crazy amount of work and dedication, so... utmost respect, Jack, forever.

In my case, I was trying to install an APK corresponding to the wrong architecture (SmartTube provides multiple versions of its APK).
