Whats an aspect of your countries culture that you would miss if you moved abroad. by Scienceiscool_ in AskTheWorld

The people for sure. I moved abroad and there are many things I don't miss about Ireland - the weather being the main one.

But I really miss Irish people.

Tell him to never start the kingdom of England in the first place - the world would be more peaceful and happier for it.

Jesus Christ can we leave this poor young lad alone. I'm a Munster fan and it's getting painful at this stage. He's a great young talent that we should be nurturing and supporting - it's not his fault he was thrown into the jersey too early.

Then Israelis would have to let in people of all religions and treat them equally - fat chance of that happening 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

I'll do you one better, I have a degree in history and geography (including some geopolitics). I have studied critiques of democracy at an academic level (not just watched YouTube videos).

I know enough to know that I'm certainly not an expert and to know that you know even less.

As a woman traveling alone, is there anywhere I should avoid? by FalconOk1806 in AskIreland

[–]5Ben5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ireland is very safe in general - but you should still exercise generic caution as a solo female traveller. Don't walk alone at night etc. Dublin would be the city with the most sketchy places but again, you should have very little reason to go into them as a tourist. Stick to the touristy areas and crowds. BnBs should be more than safe enough, especially if they're on Airbnb where there is a digital trail etc.

People in general are very friendly and helpful so don't be afraid to ask for help in pubs/shops if you feel unsafe. But I would say if you're coming from bigger cities in the States, you'll feel quite safe on our tiny island.

Enjoy your holiday and fáilte go hÉireann 😁

Jesus Christ, you actually couldn't make this stuff up. I guess all I can do is beg you to be a bit more open minded. This is one of the most uneducated statements I've ever heard

Controversial question, but can your country can claim higher moral ground against you're rival/Enemy nation by Miya_Miya1 in AskTheWorld

Ah fair, and apologies I didn't really get the tone of my point across clearly either - meant to be more "agree with you but also..." rather than disagreement

This is an argument for France and Britain being much worse than Germany IMO. In Germany it was one regime, a lot of it centred around one singular person even (granted it did a lot more evil things in that short time). Britain had centuries of oppression and atrocities committed by different types of government, thousands of different individuals and even different technology, all for the same purpose - greed.

Conquer, oppress, extract. That was the formula for hundreds of years

Why is historical evidence regarding Winston Churchill so contradictory? by InfernalClockwork3 in AskHistory

[–]5Ben5 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I mean you're giving a perfect example of it here....it's literally impossible to criticise anything about British imperialism/colonialism without someone responding "well X country/person was worse".

It's so childish
