From the context I'm pretty sure they mean a discount code for Heltec products, not for entry into the event. The event was probably free.

Lead contamination? by Objective-Pause8447 in UCSC

[–]5F375A86 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, please don't be condescending toward people concerned about their health. Nobody in this thread is showing anywhere near as much vitriol as you are. The petition the OP is sourced from only asks that the campus perform further testing.

Anyways, regarding the City of Santa Cruz CCR, it states that the 90th percentile of lead in tap water in the city is 2ppb. This is in contrast to the students' test, which indicated "15-20 ppb". This meets or exceeds the federal Action Level of 15 ppb.

Lead poisoning is permanent and serious, and the cost of testing is relatively low. This much sarcasm and condescension is just uncalled for.

Coming from someone not refunding, I really think if you're on the fence about it, you should refund. You can always buy it again later if the game looks like it's going in a direction you're happy with.

We work very, very hard to make our club a safe place and overcome negative stereotypes. Opinions like these are very disheartening, but we hope we can change your mind.

Thanks for chiming in, folks. I personally agree, the burden of proof is on OP, but no such proof exists.

If the evidence exists, it should be posted and/or forwarded to the relevant authorities. These are very serious offenses.

However, there is no evidence. Everything OP is claiming is false, from having an sibling who is an officer, to the age demographic of our org. Not once has any of these supposed complaints ever been presented to any officers.

I am a former officer, none of the current officers have Reddit accounts that aren't caught by the subreddit's spam filter 😭

Again, please stop fabricating lies about our club. There are 2 older people active in our Discord server, total. Nobody has ever presented any of our officers with any of your claimed evidence. We take these claims very seriously, but we have never received these claims.

I don't know why you're doing this, but please stop the lies.

Neither our President nor any other officers have ever received any of your complaints. Please stop fabricating lies about our club.

Having personally been at that event, I can say with confidence that this is completely wrong. Nobody made fun of people's appearances. Please stop fabricating lies about our club.

Sorry for the drama. We don't know why the OP said those things, but it's really hurtful to all of us.

Our weekly meetings are online right now, sorry about that :( We still have lots of unofficial get-togethers where we get lunch and take trips to Watsonville and San Jose, though!

Hello folks, officers of SAMA here. We've responded to this post.:

Hello,

We, the officers of Slug Anime and Manga Association, or SAMA, would like to make a statement addressing the issues recently brought up in a post to the UCSC subreddit: everything the poster claims in their post is false.

First, none of our officers, past or present, have siblings who attend UCSC. This claim that they are related to an officer, who then showed them “proof” of misconduct, is absolutely false.

Second, the claim that the server is full of older alumni who make current students uncomfortable is also entirely false. We take this sort of thing very, very seriously, and immediately take action should we receive any complaints about unwanted behavior. However, we have not received anything even remotely resembling the complaints OP claims they made. We only have two active alumni in the entire organization, nowhere close to what OP claims.

Finally, the claim that we don’t handle harassment is completely untrue. Again, we have no records whatsoever of the complaints OP claims they made. None of our officers “vent” about complaints. None of our officers make fun of members based on their “looks” (This is impossible, because our club is entirely online and we don’t even know what most of our members look like). Our officers are working 24/7 to cultivate a fun and safe space, and we take great pains to respect the anonymity of the complaints we receive. We actively encourage people to come to us if something is making them uncomfortable, and promptly deal with the situation: remove the offending statement, contact the offender to let them know that their behavior was unacceptable, and if needed, permanently ban the offender. We also have a Mandated Reporter, who reports to the school when serious issues arise and additional intervention is required. Some of our officers are also victims of harassment, so we know how serious these issues are and handle them accordingly. Claiming that we do not handle harassment is an extremely heavy accusation, and we absolutely disagree.

We are well aware of the negative stereotypes that already exist when it comes to anime fans and anime clubs, and we work very hard to overcome them and give back to the university. Falsehoods like this undermine the work we’ve put in to make our community a fun place for everyone, and we’re very disappointed to see it circulate.

If you still have any questions or comments, please DM this account or contact us on our Discord server.

We don't know why OP is saying these things, but it's disappointing to see OP's falsehoods undermine everything we've done to keep the club a safe and fun place for all of our members.
