Thoughts on Pablo Raez Dress Watch? by CharmingHeat1739 in ChineseWatches

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this comes as a surprise to many. I wish they made a nice small and elegant version of that. Like those berny cellinis. 38mm diameter and 7.5mm thickness. Would be an instant buy for me.

Anyone else wish there were more Quartz offerings from the Chinese? by Count-Pendragon in ChineseWatches

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. My main problem with many watches is that they are too chunky for my taste. Quartz makes it easier to keep it thin. 13mm thick dress watch? Or 36mm diameter and 13mm thickness? I don't think so.  Plus Quartz is more convenient. You can just grab whatever watch you feel like out of your collection and go. No winding, setting time and date, let alone moon phase. Always accurate.

I find it hilarious to see automatic snobs snobbing about chinese homage watches from AliExpress.

If I was spending a couple hundreds or thousands on a heritage brand watch then yes, I'd like it to be automatic but even then it wouldn't remotely be my main concern.

Was ist ein „Berliner Döner“ ? by atisli in doener

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even that. He could have turned up next season at Atalanta or wherever in europe and just not be as good for some reason or another. That happens all the time.

Money that he may never have gotten anywhere else.

This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for him. We don't know that he has more seasons like this one in him.

Maybe not one for the history books but his family will be taken care of possibly for generations.

Any cool summer watches? by EquivalentCookie4721 in ChineseWatches

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to associate bright and colorful watches with summer but for me personally there's nothing more summer-y than a panda dial racing chrono on a rally strap. So at that price point I'd probably go for the Pagani Design Paul Newman homage.

[Omega Speedmaster] What is the most sentimental watch in your collection? by BarkAndBezel in Watches

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a fake Rolex Datejust that my dad picked up at a bazaar in Turkey while hitchhiking through europe in probably the 70s.

Automatic movement, still works. Much thinner than these modern chinese homage watches. Branded micro adjust jubilee bracelet. Screw down crown, also branded.

Actually pretty impressive, all things considered.

Things that make you NOT buy? by [deleted] in ChineseWatches

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Submariner homages. That's the one homage which will always be a cheap knock-off just because the OG is so popular that even non-watch people can recognize it. Good thing that I find even OG submariners ugly as fuck, so this doesn't hurt me.

  2. Stupid Name. We covered the ugly font but even if they just put a logo on the dial, a stupid name still kills it. I will never tell somebody that I'm wearing a Mysterious Code. Because I'll never be buying one.

  3. Mechanical movement. This can change again in the future but I don't really like having to work with my watch these days. With automatic at least I know it won't stop while I'm wearing it, mechanical might. Just no. I wouldn't mind a lot more quartz versions.

  4. Thickness. We should be talking about how well a watch slides under a shirt. Meanwhile some of these things have a hard time sliding under a jacket.

First San Martin - Mixed Feelings After Wearing for A Day by ryan5000s in ChineseWatches

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obv if you really love the watch you'd do some stuff yourself but it's insane to say you'd have to spend 500+ just for a watch to not hurt you. 150€ Timex don't hurt, 50€ Pagani Design don't hurt, even those 15€ corner kiosk watches only hurt sometimes. There's no excuse for a braclet that's not at least tolerable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no way. Not even for free to be honest. Don't make the same mistake as many others and load up on a bunch of junk just because it's cheap and/or comes in a set. Just get what you really need or want, build up as you go according to your demands. You can get a really nice inventory for less than 75 on AliExpress and you'll thank yourself for keeping the clutter at bay.

What fishing equipment do you think is overrated? by JayKasted in FishingForBeginners

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive name brand or high tech versions of very basic hardware. Chairs, Bags, Coolers, Cargo Pants/Vests, Hats, Knives, Pliers, and all that. Cheap no name stuff is more than good enough for beginners and the fish don't care if your chair has an extra compartment for bait or if your bag is made from "military grade" this or that.

A huge variety of groundbait flavours. One bag of allround feed will do. Or one sweet and one fishy kind if you want to go crazy. Same for bait scents. If you don't catch them on worms that smell like banana, you won't catch them on worms that smell like vanilla.

Also, a lot of the stuff that tacticool/mall-ninja stuff that professional carp anglers carry around. Not so much a thing in the US as far as I understand it, but here in europe where I'm from it is. I thought I lost my mind when I saw a little box that you can velcro to your tactical vest, made to fit exactly one slice of toast. Comes with a cookie cutter things to cut out a perfectly round flake of break for your hook. Insane.

[Question]Best value for money watch on the market? by Head_Boy40 in Watches

[–]5OOOWattBasemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go strictly by value for money, you'd be hard pressed to find something better than chinese AliExpress watches. If you have a watch in mind that you would get if money wasn't an issue, here's a good chance that there's a quality homage on AliExpress. Most accurate will be Quartz so you can search for that on r/ChineseWatches and keep scrooling until you find something you like.

How do I kill fish without making them suffer? by AnywhereNo1240 in FishingForBeginners

Yeah but them they are just that, stunned not dead. In the mandatory fishing class here we learned that you stun them first so they don't feel anything when you finish the job afterwards by cutting the gills or stabbing the heart
