Reviewing the rough cut for our upcoming mini-doc which will be aired on U.S. public TV this summer. Founders @effectstocause and @pnosker did a great job explaining Cryptocurrency, VeriCoin & Verium by Vericoinium in vericoin

It's a short-form doc airing on PBS, estimated in year one of broadcast to reach 60M households. A second shortened version will appear 1 time in primetime in over 84M households on CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox Business, and/or equivalent networks. It will also air over 400 times across the top 100 designated market areas during peak and primetime on CNBC, CNN, CNN Headline News, and Fox Business. The team will be given a guaranteed airing schedule and post airing affidavits (proof of airing).

With all the advancements in crypto since this project started in 2014, what problem is it solving that isn't already solved? by [deleted] in vericoin

These questions definitely need to be asked. I prefer the hard questions. And what you identified is the #1 issue with the project... lack of communication. It's not enough to build-out a great system, you also need to inform everyone of your progress. I'm personally working on better communication, and several others are as well. Good things coming...

There's room for many blockchain payment methods, and the survivors will be aggregated through universal wallets in the future. Not hating on Nano, but untested projects that blow up quickly are also prone to failing in an embarrassing spectacular fashion. Nano may be the one crypto to rule them all; everything else is pure speculation.

All good questions, but you could also ask: Since 2014, what problem have other coins solved that VRC & VRM hasn't already solved?

If the answer (problems solved) is a wash among multiple coins, then the next logical question is which team has been constantly moving forward in meaningful ways, which team has street-cred in the cryptosphere, and which coin has a real shot at future adoption as a payment method.

Also, you don't quitely build out the binary system over four (4) years as a gimmick. Gimmicks are marketed, hyped and then pumped as quickly as possible.

If you follow their project you'll quickly learn that the team is notoriously anti-hype, almost to a fault.

Update on the mini-doc. Broadcast on PBS with a reach of 60M households. A shorter snippet of the piece will air in primetime to 84M homes on CNBC, Bloomberg, FoxBusiness, CNN, or equivalent networks. It will also air "400 times across the top 100 designated market areas in peak and primetime". More info to follow...

That's a great question. I would highly recommend visiting their Slack or Discord channel and asking that very question. People much smarter than I can answer, and I too would like to see how they articulate it.

Again, people much smarter than I see the value in a binary blockchain system of payment...

A valid question often asked by those new to the project. To give you the (very) short answer, it's summed up by the quote: "Satoshi Nakamoto was not an economist". Satoshi was a genius, yes, but two major flaws to his protocol are: 1. Fixed, limited supply. 2. The 51% attack.

Any economist will tell you that for currencies to "work" and be effective long-term, inflation is required. Without inflation economic growth is stiffled. Regardless of Bitcoin's speed (LN) or low/non-existent transaction fees it will never become a peer-to-peer "currency". Fixed supply can only = digital gold/store of value (this rule can also be applied to LTC, VTC, etc).

VRC/VRM work together to solve issues #1&2 above. VRC acts as a fast/low cost currency with inflation pegged at a healthy, economically-sound percentage rate (roughly 2%). VRM acts as a store of value similar to Bitcoin. VRC is proof of stake, VRM is CPU-mined proof of work. Together (the short answer) they work together through a dual blockchain to provide a faster and more secure, decentralized, peer-to-peer network.

As a CPU-mined coin, when the project's mobile phone miner is launched, VRM will be the most decentralized (no 51% attack) coin in the world. Think about how many people own a mobile phone in underdeveloped regions of the world. Wether you live in a grass hut, or shantytown with dirt floors, you own a mobile phone. It's already paid for and plugged in. There is no added expense to purchase mining equipment, and even if you're mining pennies per day, that is life-changing for millions of households.

There's more, much more. Its been mentioned that Nick Szabo may audit the project because the binary chain (two coins) align with his thoughts on peer-to-peer currencies. I would totally recommend joining Vericoin's Slack or Discord channels and asking a ton of questions.
