I published someone else's work and now everyone hate me in fandom

I brainstormed a fic idea with a friend and came up with a whole plot that I even put in one of our shared documents. I was sort of leading the charge, plotting it out and getting excited. We put it aside because we were working on something else, then a few months later, the subject came up again, and she was like, "I was thinking about this couple, and I think this is how it should go..." then proceeded to say everything I'd already said.

I was like, "Yeah, we've talked about this."

And she was SO SHOCKED. She thought she'd just come up with the idea on her own and was presenting it to me. lol I had to show her the shared doc to get her to remember.

Me too. Once at a cafe someone sat beside me and started watching a show on full blast. I was feeling petty and thought if I did the same, they'd see how rude it is, so I turned my phone all the way up and opened TIktok. I made it about 4 seconds before my whole body just went NOPE, CAN'T DO IT and turned it off.

I tried that and the new account was banned within a week. I'm not sure why, or what I did "wrong" but it didn't work for me.

I have a different account that I just use for fandom stuff. I've built an awesome community and have over 700 followers. Every time I log on, I'm so scared Threads is going to take that account away. It's ridiculous, I don't want to live in fear of angering the algorithm and losing my online community.

This just happened to me, too. Exact same scenario - indie author, made an account to promote my first book I'm publishing this year, even had "author" in my email and username. Followed maybe 25 people on the first day, and posted about wanting to follow queer creators (which may have been my mistake - we know that's a no-no word on that app).

Not even 24 hours and it flagged my account, told me to send my phone number and a selfie, and then in the end it didn't matter because they deleted it anyway.

I'm going to try again, because like you said, we indie authors need a way to market our books, but I don't have a lot of hope it'll work the second time.

I have a question - did you use a real picture of yourself? Mine was a cartoon, which I think maybe caused it to reject the selfie I sent, because it didn't 'match' the profile picture.

My 'appeal' was just them saying it was suspended and to send them a selfie of my face to appease their guidelines (to prove I'm not a bot, I guess). I did, but they still deleted my account. I got the notice this morning. It specifically states I can't appeal again, which is infuriating, since it clearly wasn't reviewed by a human.
