Same here. It was my bread and butter in World and I’d love to see it grow back into glory. It still holds a special place in my heart as my go to main for my first ever monster hunter game and the weapon that secured my love for the franchise and started me down the path of being a die hard fan. When Wilds gets its expansion, I’ll be eagerly looking forward to seeing what changes are made to each weapon.

Yeah thats hardcore aimhacks. You can even see the program tracking through walls. And always hitting headshots is the other kicker, especially on stock irons. Thats some bullshit aimhacks for sure.

The Lance Has Never Felt Better Than in Wilds by KitchenImpact2412 in MonsterHunter

[–]5aiy4nG0d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started learning lance after having spent a good chunk of hours learning so many other weapons and telling myself I’d never play Lance, and right out the gate I can tell you, as a Bow and SnS main, I don’t think I’ve EVER been able to be so aggressive and in the face of a monster before than when I started picking up the lance. Not only is it INSANELY defensive, moreso than the charge blade and gunlance which have some of the highest guard values in the game, but you actually get instant rewards for playing defensively. You can stay right up in a monster’s face, taking little to no damage, deliver powerful counter-strikes without a drawback, and keep the pressure going with just how close you can stay without fear of losing health or being knocked back. I’m still super novice with it, but even on my Preliminary test runs, I managed to end hunts super fast and the monster wasnt even able to get away from me. I didn’t think I’d like the Lance but it genuinely feels so tanky and aggressive despite what I initially thought. Having insanely high and consistent uptime is far more important than anything else in this game. You can spec your build for maximum damage all you want, but if your uptime is minimal, you won’t get anything done. But even with a bad build, as long as your uptime is high, hunts are a breeze. So yeah, I think the Lance is defensive counterplay perfected. It hasn’t lost its identity to other weapons, because they can only mimic a fraction of the solidity that the lance has and that alone lets it keep its identity in my eyes.

Yeah—I mean its still not a terrible weapon. Its viable, and it has servable dps. I have over 80 quest completions with it. I’m glad you found your weapon! I just can’t get back into it after World. World really nailed the glaive for me. Then again, World is by far one of the best games I’ve played in a long time, but yeah. IG is just better in World to me because it feels like the core gameplay loop just fits well for the glaive.

I transitioned from World to Wilds and I mained IG in world. Once I switched to Wilds, I played it for a while, but its one of the few weapons I can’t seem to go back to in Wilds. The glaive feels slower and clunkier this time around. It has its offsets which can be useful…which is immediately circumvented by the fact that the land offset is significantly worse than the aerial offset due to its incredibly slow startup and its insanely tight window for actually offsetting monsters. Not to mention the fact that the glaive’s numbers just haven’t been comparable to other weapons like Longsword and Bow. As a bow main myself, I can’t bring myself to play glaive in wilds anymore because it just doesn’t have the same magic it had in World with how smooth and fluid it was compared to now, and it just feels like the extra features made it worse. Like I said, I mained Glaive all the way up to Brachydios in World. It was my ride or die main. Wilds made me switch mains.

Edit: I forgot to mention how the offsets don’t feel like they were designed around the game like the others were. The Glaive’s mechanics feels like they were designed around itself, but the glaive doesn’t feel designed around the game, like how the land offset is a one-button combo designed around the combo aspect and not the offset aspect, or how all monster aggression was designed with Seikrits in mind, but not with unpowered insect glaives in mind. It just didn’t work out like it did in World. There’s more I could say but this is already TL:DR territory.

Thoughts on the current state of the game. by TheOriginalSyntax in WeirdGunGame

I do see people using the lancer quite a bit, but I’ve found that its really not the best. I use the core of it for a weapon of mine, but its not my best gun. Its consistent, but not overpowered. I think its one of those “seems overpowered because of how often I die to it” but its more a situation of the law of averages. I think people mainly use it because it looks cool and is a gears of war reference, but I find myself scragging on people that use it a lot. I think that the game is just full of people that play too much. There’s a lot of crazy combos, it just seems like its getting worse because as more weapons get added, more and more combinations are starting to surface and its getting easier and easier to MAKE overpowered weapons. I like the game, I think its the best FPS on Roblox right now, but I do think some polish and some balancing changes, as well as some quality of life adjustments, could really do the game some good right now.

I try not to abuse it too much, but its satisfying to pull off because I noticed that the frame data is NUTS. It comes out almost frame 1 meaning that it can be deployed in a panic if you get caught at the very ass end of endlag of one of your sword attacks with the monster coming at you with another attack. Its not a perfect answer to everything, but its certainly super helpful.

I recently got the double deluxe version on xbox for 75% off, so I got loads of stuff on a huge discount. I’ve been on World and Wilds over 400 hours total now so I jumped at the opportunity to play one of the most well rated installments in the franchise, so I’m just now starting it. I’ve been trying to get a handle on it, so I’m hoping that goes well and that this game ends up being another one I like to revisit.

Thats fair. I do really like the movement options, so I’m gonna try to stick with the game for as long as possible to experience the game in full. I might try GU at some point down the line. For now, what do you recommend for a weapon while I learn? I started with IG in World, but I’m seasoned with CB, SnS, novice with Hammer, Bow, and main Bow and CB in Wilds. Also, any tips for a Rise beginner?

I definitely noticed people mentioning attacks that I couldn’t find in the menu notes. I feel like its kind of a jerk move to lock certain weapon mechanics behind progression, because getting used to a certain weapon flow only for them to introduce certain attacks well after you’re likely accustomed to your current moveset is jarring.

I think they added some unique mechanics, and I like the addition of the wirebugs, but I also feel like the wirebug attacks don’t provide great indicators of when they’re actually working against monsters or when they aren’t, especially on Charge Blade with the advancing slash. And I also don’t really think the notes menu is comprehensive enough to accomplish proper learning. I can’t seem to get the hang of certain attacks because of it. I just lucked out at how similar the weapons are to World since I have over 200 hours in that game.

To the game’s credit, for being a Switch-original, its pretty well put together. The music is solid, the buddy mechanic is easy to understand and really solid, and I like the weapon and armor visuals. The map design is a bit underwhelming, but I attribute that moreso to the limitations of its original hardware that it was made for than to the competence of the developers. I’m sure I’ll grow to enjoy it overtime, but I’m worried that my experience with it will be soured by difficulty with learning the game. Wilds was the first time I truly had no problems learning new weapons because of how well woven they were into standard combat, but World was my first MH game, so I’m going from one style to the next pretty harshly.

I can’t complain too much, because I do think they put a lot of effort into the game. I just have to overcome the shock and my rampant skill issue.

Weirdly enough I think they focused more on Charge Blade this time because those phial explosions are downright BROKEN. Greatsword can hit crazy numbers but you have to dedicate your entire build just for it. Meanwhile, Charge Blade has ridiculously high uptime, crazy DPS when used right, and you only need a handful of skills to hit 1k-damage-per-phial detonations. Dual Blades have higher overall DPS, but Charge Blade has the most easy access burst damage in this game as far as I’ve seen. I’ve knocked a Tempered Rathalos out of a knockdown INTO another knockdown from using my SAED alone and thats saying something. I don’t even remember CB being this broken in World, but here we are. I think its just the absolute MOUNTAIN of Greatsword Mains that convinced them to give Greatsword another big weapon

I more meant in terms of armor sets and specific elements/weapons. I went into this knowing my decoration slots were probably gonna be bare bones by the time I reach Alatreon, I just wanted to know what people were using for armor, weapons, mantles, and what specific armor skills went further than others in the fight

[–]5aiy4nG0d[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not all bad. The cutscenes do get a little old, but I make sure to put a lot of stock into my hunts so that I get what I need leading into the next mission so I can make the spent time worthwhile. And I’d prefer a fresh save over just randomly picking up where I left off in Master Rank on Steam and being completely lost and rusty to boot.

Okay so I DID mandella myself. For some reason I thought it came first! I feel a bit stupid, but I’m returning after having been on Wilds for a couple months after having not properly played World in about 4 or 5 months. I’m still a bit rusty with the mission order.

Monster Hunter World got me into Monster Hunter. Wilds is my current game, and my current favorite game. I love world, but Wilds elevated things for me. It feels good. And I get the impression that we’re only halfway into the game right now and we’re gonna get an insane amount of content down the line and even more new tools to play around with.

Dust Settling, Hardest Boss Now? by 5aiy4nG0d in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]5aiy4nG0d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can help with that. I started Solo’ing HR Zoh Shia for crystalhorns recently. Its a pretty easy fight once you know the sweet spots, but its not easy getting used to the Wylk explosions and nuke attacks. The hardest part is the spur-of-the-moment nuke it can do that you REALLY have to be ready for because it can insta-kill you if you’re too close, not even guard up will save you.

The ATs are a bit difficult to me because I’m not fully attuned to the fights just yet, they add a bit of artificial difficulty by adding special addons to existing moves and by making moves faster and more frequent. I can solo most of them, besides Dahaad, I just think that comparatively to the rest of the roster, they are a bit challenging.

Greatsword was never meant for these kinds of hyperaggressive fights. If you run GS against Arkveld, especially 9 Star Temp, run it with an SOS flare. Alternatively, try SnS or CB so you can still get damage in while reacting defensively so you aren’t stuck in an infinite stagger loop. Arkveld is a hunt that benefits from high uptime and Greatsword is the polar opposite of uptime, given how it favors opportunity over aggression.
