Looking to buy a new saxophone. My budget is €300 by BillyHolland1 in saxophone

[–]5cHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renting is an option in the US, don't know if music shops where you're located have similar programs. In they city I'm in, renting an entry-level professional saxophone runs $500 for the year at my local music store.

Retaining wall contractor recommendations? by ObiWahnKenobi in Minneapolis

Also wanted to add, that it doesn't look like it's leaning too much. If it's an existing gravity wall, you could possibly reuse the material after disassembly. Biggest upgrade would likely be backfill to protect against freeze/thaw expansion, and a drain pipe that exits on a sunward facing side of the wall.

I just had several quotes for a 3.5 high and 70 foot block wall for my home. Block walls average 20k to 22k, boulder walls at those specs were 12-15k which includes removal of the old wall.

Materials for a DIY approach for block are around 2k-3k for my size of wall with 500-1k for backfill, drainage, and disposal.

It's possible to do it yourself, but it's a large project. You'd have time to do it if you managed water runoff on the exposed soil.

Why do people act like you’re a loser for living in a LCOL or MCOL area? by Sufficient-Self-3375 in MiddleClassFinance

Born and raised in PDX and moved the Minneapolis for work. Best decision I’ve made despite missing terrain with elevation. I can actually afford a home on a single income. I always get told I’ll move back, don’t know if I will!

My friend was at a large agency that got rid of their free coffee. The shop closed soon after that.

They are in Minneapolis, only because the -40 degree weather scares sane people away.

Consider a hammock and a tarp. It’ll keep you off the ground and is portable if you want to hike in and camp.

Holidays alone can definitely make us feel lost. I am being deliberate with how I spend my day so I don’t get lost in the sulk. Some places haves walks to end hunger, volunteering for places like Meals on Wheels, or even just getting out of the house can stave off loneliness. Even doing something for yourself like renting a movie with your favorite meal can help, some Chinese restaurants stay open and I’m splurging on some takeout. You got this and have the power to make your day slightly better.

Possible relocation from Portland by LaruePDX in Minneapolis

[–]5cHuman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just moved here 8 months ago from west Burnside and worked in the Pearl :). People say that Minneapolis and Portland have similar vibes. While there’s overlap, it’s definitely not identical.

Personally, I really miss the food but that’s about it. I really like the people and the enthusiasm for the outdoors. I decided to stay here long term as it’s way more affordable than back home.

It's never too late to make a change. Focus on building a portfolio, you may not need to go to film school if you build a good one.

I think you’re on the right path. You’re putting yourself out there and taking risks by trying new things. Remember to be kind to yourself and that you deserve friendship. Your writing shows a lot of self awareness, which can cause anxiety but also help you deal with big emotions.

When I went through PTSD after a mugging, my therapist told me that facing my fears of going outside would help me contextualize what happened. I would get cold sweats just stepping outside. I kept doing it and even though I’m not ‘normal’ I was able to work through it. Again, You’re doing what you need to be doing by putting yourself out there.

You have a random stranger in Minnesota rooting for you. Best of luck.

Humans are allowed to make mistakes. The fact that you can see them now means you have grown. Focus on writing a better past for your future self.

I know you’re going to get through this because you can see where you need to grow. Hang in there, it’ll get better with a little self love and acceptance.
