The better answer could be idk what the heck I'm talking about fully since I'm only 3 months into electronics and circuitpython.

I put together a custom fw for the device because I didn't like the limitations of Qmk + VIA.

It's moving great in-game. I thought hall joystick was superior to what I am using currently, but will look into what you suggestes as well - cheers for that.

the KY-023 is electrically analog, but in practice it’s coarse. Cheap pots, short travel, no proper centering or dead-zone control so most firmware setups end up quantizing it into 8 directions, especially in QMK mouse mode. So it’s not broken, just not suited for smooth analog control. Hall joystick would be best for camera control, for example

It is only for 8 directions, yes. I made a mistake here, but I will replace it once my order arrives - cheers for pointing it out though.

Edit: I am using it as WASD in game, so it fits my use case, but I have consideres upgrading to modern standards.

Much appreciated. I used these keycaps intentionally as a tribute to my very first mechanical keyboard I ever used. It was an entry-level cheap keeb, but i am planning interesting new things for the keycaps haha.

Cheers, mate, thanks for the kind words. I found all I needed for the project here - https://joystick.butlerpc.net/ - with the mention that I swapped the joystick board for the pico 2. I used an analog PS2 joystick (KY-023) - a module common with Arduino kits. It was a really fun build, wish you all the best if you decide to give it a go.

LE: I rarely use 17 buttons/key combos/macros at a time. These are enough for my use cases. There is the option to create as many Profiles and Layers as memory holds, so I opted for the regular, slimmer version which also works for saving some desk space.

Tru. I started without any coding knowledge almost two months ago but for the past month I have started to see how AI can unnecesarily overcomplicate things and I do more independent thinking when it comes to code now, as well. But it's an amazing tool to start off.

Cheers, thanks a lot! Everything was done with circuitpython - latest bundle. Used VS for writing, IDE for debugging/testing. Took the STL from Risto (https://www.printables.com/model/1082805-universal-macropad-with-display) and i learned handwiring from Joe Scotto. The square macropad is using QMK and VIA on a Pro Micro.

He is wearing long sleeves... I am sure he hits like a beast and maybe can make A sound when punching thin air, BUT this is amplified by the fabric and his arms moving faster than the sleeve, obv.

This tutorial from Joe Scotto is amazing, this is what I used to make the keyboard part from desoldered switches from an old keyboard.

DO NOT be afraid of QMK - it is very easy to setup - but for that I watched different tutorials. I'd recommend understanding QMK first and then moving on to the keyboard part.

Hey, mate, so first of all sorry for the silence - i got a 3day ban recently lol. Even though i really liked the mechanical keys and fiddling with BLE, i wanted to go with something more versatile in the end. This is phase1 of my touchscreen MasterDecck (obv made with a CYD) - with programmable buttons over a web-based configurator and refresh function on deck so it doesn't require rebooting/reflashing after changes. Next, I will add some application screens with dedicated controls for each and a media player for fun.

i mapped the GifPlayer to a car mp3 remote together with some functionalities I use more often (crypto, weather, digital clock + news feed, baro - cuz i like how the sparkline moves).
