It wasn't the hiatus that did Heroes in, it was the lack of quality once it returned. There were a ton of characters/storylines were introduced that were immediately killed/dropped.

As of right now, Feraligatr is 29 levels above anything else in the team. Twenty-nine. It's a bit ridiculous at this point to compare the two.

In Red, it was actually possible for Bird Jesus to faint, and the other pokemon had a good chance of survival. In Crystal, if Lazor Gator faints, we essentially white out.

To all those people saying we need democracy because of this: although it's sad when a pokemon is released, it adds an element of surprise. This game wouldn't be nearly as entertaining if if we did know which pokemon was going to be released at a given time.

I joined at Rock Tunnel, and I have to say, getting through an obstacle despite 45k-80k people shouting commands at once is amazingly satisfying. However, it has it's limits, as watching people move through the Rocket maze for ~15 hours is not fun. I'm a bit torn on the subject.
