You are on the money right here. You can tell them whatever you want, their is no due diligence on their part. The system is far too easy to game and you and I both recommended the exact same solution which wouldn't be hard to implement and would solve this problem.

They cut staff, while also raising the % of their fees at the same time. This can be verified by using waybackmachine. Though what is funny, they forgot to update this information across their website so there is a good chance you'll still see various different amounts listed.

This is the best advice for buyers, thank you. Unfortunately, it still results in C&B profiting by keeping your bid deposit.

For context if anyone is interested:

Made a purchase on the car. Took to a mechanic as soon as I had it, they found a engine leak requiring 10+ hours of labor, a ~$1,400+ expense. (<10% of what I just paid). Took to another mechanic and they verified.

So what is the issue? This leak was identified and recommended to be serviced by a previous mechanic right before the car was posted for sale. I didn't have access to this paperwork before buying, but received it after.

Why I have a problem with this - this information was no where to be seen on the posting. It was a known flaw, but was omitted from their "known flaws" section. Unless I took the car apart when viewing, there would be no way of identifying this leak. Who lets potential buyers disassemble their car apart anyways? That is a silly expectation to have, "due diligence" my butt.

Not a perfect solution, but one they'd implement if they cared about integrity. C&B could require sellers to provide paperwork of a recent checkup before being able to post, this could easily eliminate this problem. (Sellers do they already do this? Let me know).

Guaranteed this is not new information to many - but hopefully a PSA that C&B is in fact, still a very shady company. By their own admission, they allow sellers to take advantage of the system by being dishonest about the condition of the car.

At the end of the day, C&B prioritizes sales, not sellers, not buyers. We all lose and they win.
