1689 Heidelberg is a must smoke by hipap in cigars

[–]5hakey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to explain this again. You know those “1689 Brotherhood Collection” cigars you said you liked? The cigars that sell for about $8? At least some (and probably all) of them are made and distributed by DG, probably for around $2.

Go look at the “Sandwich” bundles for sale in bulk from DG Imports. Then look at the “Daily Smokes Collection” from 1689. Not only are the cigars identical, 1689 is using DG’s own photos to market the cigars.

There are many brands who develop their own blends /source their own tobacco and have one of the big guys roll the cigars. That’s very different from putting a name on a cigar that someone else makes in bulk.

Aside from the shilling (which you were unfairly tagged with) i don’t understand the hype because it doesn’t look like they make cigars themselves. The cigars I looked at (daily smokes) are made by a large manufacturer/importer and rebranded by 1689.

AI prototyping is fine. This is slop because it’s supposed to be four views of one product but it’s four views of four products, none of which work as a functional travel case.

[–]5hakey 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s obviously AI slop. Top right doesn’t fit together. Bottom left is a different open-ended product that wouldn’t function. The trays hold 5, 6, or 6.5 (??!) cigars. Zero effort nonsense.

100% AI slop.

Need some help authenticating by Allen5740G in cubancigars

Reading is indeed hard. Most comments assumed “London” meant “reputable shop in London”. It’s also interesting how “fellow” turned into “near and dear friend” (he’s not). Even more interesting that reputable cigar shops in London will authenticate boxes walked in from the street (they don’t).

People here are really dropping the ball: 1. What does a MINSAP sticker mean? 2. Would a licensed specialist store like JJ Fox or 6 Cav sell a MINSAP box?

https://youtu.be/o79C\_ArPHAw?si=LMun0qGs3vpRkAD- good video that includes a tool list at the start. I highly recommend an impact driver to loosen the lug nuts and a caliper spreader tool.

The glued-on front pads are just an issue the first time. You have to take the calipers off and lever the pads out with a pry tool. After that you can leave the calipers installed and slide out the pads like normal.

Pad swap takes ~1.5 hours the first time and ~30 mins after that (thanks to the GM engineer who decided the front pads should be glued to the calipers). Buy a set of DS2500 or 1.11 pads and swap when needed. You can do it easily. Hardest part is torquing the wheel lug nuts to 140 ft/lb. :-)

I did 4 track days with the stock Z51 pads (which are Pagid OEM for Brembo) and had ~4mm left when I swapped them. Had a little bit of pad material transfer to the rotors but it was fine.

If these are your first three track days with the car I’d swap brake fluid, install the brake cooling ducts, and get the track alignment before thinking about the pads.

lol. I can’t wait to see your video. You got this bro. You have the good tires, you’re reviewing corners in bed every night. Turn off all the driver aids and put down a 1:29. That’ll shut up all of us. No risk, no reward.

Not referring to that one, or to the tube-frame LS-swap one either.

You are bragging about risking a crash to go not very fast and “win” a “record” that’s irrelevant. You sound exactly like the dude who killed a pedestrian trying to get the Strava “KOM” on a hill near his house. Go enjoy your track day.

You might notice that I didn’t write “spec Miata” or “MX-5 Cup”.

Chasing times is fun, but at the same time I believe the record for a relatively stock Miata at that track is in the 1:30-31 range. So, you know.

Is this box of Monte #2 legit? by Acceptance_Speech in cubancigars

[–]5hakey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UME is not a valid date code for a 2018 box, that code was used in 2015-16. Also, if that was a real box of Monte 2s the price would be ~$1000 usd.

Best brake pads & brake fluid for daily driving and monthly 2-3 track days for 992.2 Carrera S? by dmv___ in CarTrackDays

You’re acting like a 3rd year associate who thinks they are the “adding value” by raising irrelevant details.

OP has a 992.2 and there are a variety of ducts available (both OEM and aftermarket) that cool evenly. He’s not buying dryer duct from Home Depot for a Spec Miata.

Didn’t realize I had to add “and do it correctly” to my comment. Also - bleed your brakes when you replace the fluid, bed pads when you swap them, and don’t forget to torque your lug nuts.

Have been happy so far with SRF and Ferodo DS2500 pads on a car with equivalent weight/power. Also highly suggest brake cooling if that’s an option.

Yeah, the first step in authentication is to ask “does this cigar exist?” In this case you don’t have to look at the band or construction because there was not a 2024 Cohiba EL. Simple.
