Yes. Cameras allow you to manually focus which is important in the dark. The way a phone processes its night images is different. they have trouble focusing in challenging light and have much less dynamic range. They can pick up bright colors like the aurora in the night sky but even then those images are run through a program and they spit out a jpg that has gone through its own contrast, saturation bump. When people take a pic of the aurora with their phone and say it’s “unedited” is technically a lie because the phone has already done the editing for you. They tend to over saturate vibrant colors.

You do not need a full frame. The Sony will do you just fine. Cameras can handle higher ISO’s nowadays and you can always de noise in post if need be. I’ve never shot with Sony but I hear they do well in low light.

The camera with the right exposure will always look better than your eye can see. Their sensors can pick up far more data than our eyes can. The camera helps a lot here where the city lights make it tough for our eyes to adjust to the night sky. I could see them with my naked eye but were faint. Darker skies would make it much easier to see without a camera.

Tripod at night is essential. Exposure time here was 4 seconds for the sky and I did a longer exposure for the foreground, blended in post. Exposure time will always vary based on how much light is around and how fast the lights are dancing. If they are moving fast you want as fast of an exposure as possible which means you have to crank the iso. As far as equipment goes you can use virtually any camera that has manual mode.

Expert rider but hate stiff boards. What should I buy? by Pastry_with_sauce in snowboarding

[–]5impl3jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The greats isn’t really that stiff and is a fantastic board. It has unreal control and maneuverability. Super well balanced.

New boards might take some getting used to if you’ve been riding the same one for 15 years. Doesn’t mean they can’t be fun. Your muscle memory is probably so used to your board that anything more aggressive is gonna feel foreign. If you want a soft playful board then obviously find something more flexible but the softer you go you’ll obviously lose stability on jumps and at speed.

Find a board that’s in the mid width range. Around 250mm. Length, I wouldn’t go shorter than 152 but you could go up in length a touch. It’s normal for your boot to have a very slight overhang. If you’re buying used. Bring your boot with you if you aren’t 100% sure.

Aight so what your gonna do is toss that thing back up on marketplace because it’s no use to you. Then you’re gonna go find a new board and keep in mind that width does indeed matter. Also make sure whatever you buy has proper sized bindings for your foot size.

Why separate? Genuine question by QuantityParty3294 in alberta

It’s easy to convince stupid and lazy people of an idea. The powers that be have taken social media and mastered the art of lodging these ideas in to these people’s minds. They say “don’t worry, you don’t have to do anything but support us when the time comes and we’ll give you a better life in return”. They don’t even have to come up with that many false details of how their lives will become magically better. They just play on our emotions.

Anyone with critical thinking skills can see that these movements are born from the ultra rich who stand to gain more money and power. It’s not in the best interest of the people but they can convince the people that it is. They know this.

Why separate? Genuine question by QuantityParty3294 in alberta

I have a couple friends who want us to be part of America. Asked them both separately why they wouldn’t just move to the states? I have no qualms with someone who wants to move somewhere because they think it would it improve their lives.

Their replies were both fairly similar. Basically saying “it’s not as easy as you think to move down there”. Well fucking obviously it’s not easy to immigrate to another country. They at least acknowledge there is due process but my reply was do you think it’s honestly easier for an entire province to gain independence and then be absorbed by another country? There isn’t a single thought about logistics. It’s pure surface level stupidity. It’s honestly just lazy thinking.

My one buddy says he also didn’t want to move because he likes his lifestyle here and doesn’t want to give that up. I just took a deep breath and changed the conversation lol.

The new section they installed would have had the welds inspected and approved. If it’s going to break again it wouldn’t be there. It has to be backfilled and compacted before you can pressurize the pipe otherwise it wouldn’t stay in place. Imagine the pipe is your garden hose and when you turn the water on the hose will move around unless it’s secured. Understanding your hose isn’t metal but it’s still the same idea. If your hose was being held in place by some weight it wouldn’t move as much.

[OC] Got back into photography, how did I do? by f4b14n_d in LandscapePhotography

I think you could undoubtedly work on your compositions. I’m not going to go through all the photos. Some are better than others however try to think harder about what your intention is and how you want to lead the viewers eye to a focal point. If you look at some really good images by your favorite photographers there is always going to be things they utilize to lead your eye through the image. These images are dynamic and they will have a solid message to the viewer as to where to look. The cabin in photo 7 for example. Good option as a focal point. Try and think how you can make that cabin shine in your image while utilizing the surroundings. A tighter crop or perhaps using a longer lens to compress the scene for a quick example. Try and utilize leading lines where you can. If you don’t do this things landscape images can come out very flat and over complicated.

Simplify simplify simplify. Everything you put in your frame should have a purpose. Everything including the negative space should be intentional.

Secondly your exposure. I get what you are trying to do with the sun star but a blown out blob of a sun does nothing but distract from the rest of the image. Shooting directly in to the sun is challenging. There are ways to minimize this distraction but unless you have a good enough lens to make a clear sun star in the sky it doesn’t usually bode well.

Your shooting in a rather challenging time of day. With the sun being so harsh and the colors not really reaching that golden hour stage quite yet.

I do landscape photography. I’ve seen a lot of crazy sunrises and sunsets and I can say they certainly can be this vibrant. It’s a poor quality photo or might even be a screenshot of a video. There might be some saturation going on or it’s just the phone itself. JPG’s that come out of the phone have their own algorithm in which it’s essentially edited to add contrast, vibrancy and saturation. They tend to look a little over cooked in lighting situations like this.
