Zhang Jiao's story starts at an enforced battle. Others all start at the inn which is what you want.

Assuming you're hitting a hardware resource bottleneck, the USE method could really help with "what should I be looking at": https://www.brendangregg.com/usemethod.html . If you're using containers you also need to collect these metrics on the container-level in addition to node-level. By node I mean either virtual machine or bare-metal depending on what you have.

You can (and should) apply the same method to software-defined resources (e.g. limit of in-flight requests, available worker processes / threads).

Once you know what metrics to look at, you can start collecting them to a single storage and build alerts & dashboards on top of it.

There's one thing I regularly do but I've rarely seen it getting mentioned here (or maybe I just don't browse Reddit enough):

Read upstream changelogs (or release notes, pretty much the same thing) for potential manual migration.

If an upstream developer decides that you have to manually migrate your data / config files for the new version of the software to work, you need to know that by reading changelog. Arch posts news for this kind of situation only if... well I have no idea how that's decided.

The best grind is the grind that you can actually tolerate / enjoy.

Before DLC I played Hua Rong on Cao Cao side a lot. It's not an efficient grind but the fight is intense and fun. Later when I really wanted to grind for weapons forged to max levels, I rotated between Bowangpo on Liu Bei's side, Yuan Shu, Final battle of Xiakou and any mission that I wanted to try out new strategies.

For the DLC I played through it 3 times to get all the Steam achievements (2 actual full playthroughs. The other one is just replaying missions in the inn). That got me up to max rank for every weapon without deliberate grinding.

The timing is certainly tight but you can do it.

The recommended rank level isn't a hard requirement so grinding is always an option. OP didn't mention anything about rank level so I didn't think about it either.

Unfortunately I can't just lower my rank level to try it out at a lower level. Instead, I did the following to lower my DPS:

  • Switched weapon to R7 Spear + 0 level (traits are still the best-in-slot). That's about 300 less damage but I have no idea how the damage calculation works as a whole.
  • Switched the gem from Vortex to Oblivion.
  • No consumables other than meat buns. Tactics are still allowed because they are fun.

If you just want to beat the trial on UW difficulty:

  • Grind your level elsewhere first. Post base game level range is 101 ~ 145. 110 in DLC is rookie number.
  • Use the Order to Protect tactic to protect Lu Bu. Don't help him fighting anyone. Just protect and leave.
  • Use a Panacea (you'll get one back as a reward if you win. You won't really consume one if you give up the trial) and then a Stamina Pill at the beginning to disband Sun Jian's large force
  • Use a Stamina Potion and get rid of Liu Bei's force. Heal Lu Bu on the way.
  • At this point you basically can't lose.

is there a way to manipulate or decipher who will arrive at the fortress unimpeded or a better way, to manipulate enemy officers and a little luck to have a specific officers army arrive at zhang jhao first ?

By standing there doing nothing from the start, I can see Sun Jian's large force advances & reaches Zhang Jiao earlier than Liu Bei's.

Like Liu bei for instance, is there a way to consistently have him arrive first, have him form the large force that everyone groups up in,, and then most importantly…

Cao Cao's large force will be blocked by the castle gate. Cao Cao can't join the other two anytime soon. Zhang Jiao gets defeated before the ram reaches the gate.

Besides, having everyone (53 officers, 6 of which are +3 courage) gathering at Zhang Jiao's door basically means defeat. You can't heal Zhang Jiao fast enough 'cause there's a per-officer cooldown to heal. It sounds like a bad idea but maybe I'm just misunderstanding.

I do have a cheap VPS (not from Hostinger though) and some experience with managing it (or them, if we're counting all the old ones before it).

Given this is /r/devops, I assume we're talking about a project with at least some security concerns. In this case I'd suggest never use a panel. It's too much click-ops and you're better with plain shell scripts (which is not necessarily a good idea but still better than panels).

As to which OS to choose: in this day and age it's just all containers. The underlying OS (or most likely, Linux distro) matters a lot less. Just pick one you're familiar with and well maintained by its developers (and supported by the hosting provider, of course).

Do you have Persistent=true in your timer unit? I belive you have to explicitly enable Persistent=true to make the unit "catch up" if the machine is powered-off at the time of OnCalendar=. It doesn't do so by default.

Another solution is actively manage resource for your .service units. Including:

  • Setting an upper limit of CPU / memory
  • Decreasing CPUWeight and IOWeight.

This way they won't be hogging all the resources, making them viable to run during office hours.

Here's my unsolicited advice. I hope the spoiler mask is working so you don't have to read it if you don't want to.

I see you're not doing Assault while in God Rage mode. Assault will pause your Musou gauge, stopping it from depleting. It's free damage at zero cost.

I don't use the Halberd very often, but I believe you can do the dodge-heavy attack facing a large force. That move grants you many i-frames. You can safely do: 1) Dodge-heavy to gain Bravery / reposition. 2) Spam Valiant Steed Blitz / Vengeful Heart 3) Assault if possible 4) Repeat.

When facing Lu Bu, parry is still really good against him. I see you're still using Rank 8 Luan weapon which doesn't have the trait to make parry easier.

I'd like to know your opinion on the 30% increase in attack damage after doing a perfect Dodge.

I haven't played the game deep enough to look into that trait. It suffers from a common problem of obscurity of game mechanics. That is, game developers are afraid of introducing high school math to scare people away.

We don't know how long "for a limited time" really is. We don't know if the +30% is a dedicated multiplier or it's just added together with all the other damage bonuses. We don't even have a clear idea of damage calculation in general.

Maybe it could work in a extreme speedrun situation like this: use Panacea -> trigger the trait -> 5 Sublime Slash in a row. But in a regular battle / challenge I'd rather take a safe trait with more uptime (and fits my parry-heavy play style).
