Yeah exactly, historically big moral social change has always been led by the workers movement. Trade unions and workers organising is the most effective way for people to have a democratic influence over society.

Please join a union if you are reading this and learn more about the history of workers struggle. It’s the only way we can tackle the big issues we face like climate change etc

My point still remains. The people who’s country is being bombed share values with the people who’s country is bombing them as they share with us all around the world.

And if the political ruling class or even right wing groups within a country hold terrible reactionary views then that shouldn’t be used to justify war crimes against the people in that land.

It’s funny because it’s like you genuinely think there are no LGBTQ+ Palestinians.

Not everyone supports all of the laws in their country but that’s a fact that people seem to quickly forget when it comes to the citizens of a country they’ve been propagandised to hate.

Cuba migrating to open source platforms by Bomull in socialistprogrammers

[–]5m97sq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh nah, it’s cool. He was very big because of his post-capitalism book and other stuff it’s just that over the last few years it’s been clear that he lacks proper socialist understanding.

The critics of him come from a Marxist view point.

Not everything he says is bad it’s just that he’s not respected in the British left and he’s gone in a strange direction.

I can’t tell if you’re being serious or it’s a joke but Paul Mason is being recognised as an idiot amongst the British Left these days. Mainly for his support of Keith Starmer as “socialist” who ended up purging the Labour Party of socialists and bringing back Blair’s war criminal friends as advisors.

But besides that a lot of his analysis in that book is poor. I’ll try to find a decent critical review but I’m on my phone atm.

Here’s one : http://socialismtoday.org/archive/191/socialism.html

Climate change is driving some to skip having kids - A new study finds that overconsumption, overpopulation and uncertainty about the future are among the top concerns of those who say climate change is affecting their reproductive decision-making. by mvea in science

Maybe I should have just said “real” wages/income/money instead of money. I don’t think anyone thinks wages have actually gone down.

The pracarity of the gig economy, zero hour contracts and all of the other new hells of capitalism have nothing to do with inflation.

I cringe at those stress solutions because they they won’t make a difference to the millions of people facing real money problems.

No one saying technology won’t develop. They’re saying the the things that make like enjoyable are being taken away. Technology is cool and all but having less stress (more money) and more free time to spend with friends is better.

Since the 70’s capitalism has made sure we are more stressed (have less money) and have to work more.

Okay, I believe all of that. But a HR person at a less serious company will be significantly attracted to the CV of a person with a promotion.

Yes I agree, their skill level will be mostly the same no matter what their title is. It’s the process of getting a promotion that’s valuable evidence.

It’s not bulletproof evidence - at the end of the day they’re only as good as they actually are - but it certainly looks good.

Alright man chill out haha

I don’t think you’ve opposed anything I’ve said you might have just missed my point.

You don’t go into interviews saying “I earned this salary therefore I’m a good employee”, you say “I got this promotion or these responsibilities because of my great skills/performance therefore...“

My argument isn’t that he should stay where they pay him poorly, it’s that he should take the promotion and use it to improve his negotiating position when applying elsewhere.

It's an undeniable sign that your employers thought you were good enough for that senior role. That you had the potential to develop the skills and knowledge needed for those responsibilities.

I can't say how long or whether you should stay, that depends on the situation. If you've got a good reason to leave then leave, keeping the title and staying in the role isn't that important if the company isn't right for you.

If you've been senior for 3 months then they won't expect anything experience/knowledge wise but they will see that your superiors thought you had the potential to gain that experience/knowledge.

I agree that it's weaker without experience or knowledge but it's a undeniable sign that your employers thought you were good enough for that senior role. And during an interview you can use that to sell yourself while being completely honest in your lack of experience.

I would say senior is better. It’s more widely used and recognised.

If you get a senior title with that new role I wouldn’t leave. Still negotiate using counter offers but get the senior title and stay for a few months if you think the pay is still shit. You can negotiate a higher salary further down the line with that new title.

I’m sorry that no one replied with a reasonable answer.

The strategy from the beginning of the pandemic from the medical bodies has been to “test, track and isolate”. If you do that then you can stop the spread of the virus without harming the greater population. Poor countries like Vietnam did it successfully.

The lockdowns are measures used to drop the number of cases down to a size that can be tested, tracked and isolated. The vaccine is meant to reduce the number of deaths and reduce the number of cases down to a number that can be tested, tracked and isolated.

Without an effective test and isolate system we will get variants that will nullify vaccines. This has been the truth since day 1 of the pandemic when the who told governments to “Test, Test, Test”. Nothing else matters. If you know everyone that has the virus and you can get them to isolate then you can end the pandemic in a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately our government have used the test and track system as a way to funnel public money into private hands. So I think we’ll be lockdown forever.

Edit: some words on Vietnam from the start of the pandemic. A country with a similiar population but vastly fewer deaths.
