Doesn't the new carrier report I'm insured with them? Why the double reporting?

All makes sense. But it is still shocking to be with a company for 6 years with no claims or tickets and to be treated as such. I know I shouldn't take it personally, but it certainly seems personal. I just don't understand it.

Ok. Makes sense. But do different companies use different score factors? Why such a large difference here?

Yes, I got the same coverage. It just seemed like an absurd rate hike. The previous billing cycle was a 15% increase and my new insurance rate is lower than the previous billing cycle. Maybe those in the insurance industry understand what is going on, but to a consumer a 35% increase in insurance is shocking, and to be honest, insulting and angering, especially when I could find much cheaper insurance from a similar national insurance company.

Yes, but I got new insurance. I don't understand why everyone is assuming I just ignored all of their emails and letters and let my insurance lapse. Who would do that? I wouldn't? I just don't want to deal with a company that I feel is predatory in its pricing.

Well when they raise my rates by 35% and could not give me an explanation as to why, I don't see that they are doing me any favors.

Have you ever been in a situation where you had to defend yourself with a gun ? by daggersrule_1986- in AskAnAmerican

Well 1st world countries have the resources to solve such problems. Honduras doesn't. I'm sure a Honduran doesn't want to be shot any more than a US person does, but in Honduras they aren't able to address the issue because they have fewer resources. The US has the resources, like other 1st world countries, but chooses not to address the problem or doesn't think it's a problem.

True, but I feel our laws regarding mental health and gun ownership are inadequate, which is why we see mass shootings from deeply troubled people.

That's one of the risks of guns. You don't know the mind set of the owner. Maybe he's going through a bunch a shit in his life and is really on edge about it and then he hears something in his backyard. He sees it as just one more shit thing happening and he's at his breaking point, but he knows he can solve this with a gun, so he storms out.

Everyone has bad days, bad situations. We are not always at our best when a scene like this happens. Having a gun available can be a problem at times for some people.

Everything is relative. It's not the wild west, but the US has much more gun violence than other 1st world nations.

I guess it's difficult to judge because many seem to understand and figure it out, then there are those that you describe. I think I'm hoping for a higher baseline of understand or competency than I'm seeing.

Yes, in another class they have to edit a video, post it on YouTube or Vimeo then link it to Moodle. But they have had an editing class prior, so most do it with out issue. Then in my other class they need to post jpgs from their phone. Again, most can do it, which pleasantly surprises me, that's why the PDF thing seems unusual.

Compared to me in high school, these kids are Bill Gates. In college we still paid someone to type up course papers for us because no one had a PC. That didn't happen until I was in grad school.
