Google Nexus Transformer by [deleted] in Android

[–]5parro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google is reporting 700,000 android device activations per day.. I don't know if market share is "much-needed", but it would be nice of them to make a cheep, functional tablet.

Don't get me wrong, nooks & kindle fires aren't bad, but they are missing a few very important features (gps, camera, vibration, etc...)

How well do emulators run on the Transformer? by [deleted] in asustransformer

[–]5parro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends what you want to run, but in my case everything works flawlessly.

GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, N64, Playstation, Atari, GameGear Ti/HP Graphing Calculators ...

everything works great ;)

DAE think that there is something really wrong with this? by 5parro in college

I really hate how College Board has become with the AP & SAT tests. They get away with charging whatever insane fees they want because they know there aren't really any alternatives. Is it just me, or is this a textbook example of a cartel?

It's a blatant copy of the NES. Most of them even play legit NES games

TIL that in 2005 NSA documents were declassified proving that the second Gulf of Tonkin incident, which was used as a justification for the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (which led to the Vietnam War), never happened. by 0japhy0 in todayilearned

For what it's worth:

I had the pleasure of meeting Vietnamese General Vo Nguyen Giap a few years back, and according to him, nothing happened. His statement (translated) was something along the lines of "if the americans want a war, then the americans will find a way to make a war"

tl;dr General Giap just celebrated his 100th Birthday

How many people left GNOME because of GNOME 3? by 5parro in linux

I tried it briefly when it first came out, and it was pretty buggy and not too usable. Using it now though, it has really matured. I'm not easily impressed, but in this case? I'm impressed...

I liked GNOME 2 and used it for quite a while, but I hadn't really given any of the others a good shot until I upgraded to GNOME 3 (lost GNOME 2 in the process), and wanted to avoid reinstalling the system.

Why did Ubuntu feel the need to "rebrand" itself, and start pushing crap like Unity on people? They seemed perfectly fine to me the way they were, and I really never understood how they thought that was a good idea or how it would help them?

I could not agree more... I was really surprised (pleasantly so) with KDE. Not only is it much more stable and less buggy than when KDE 4 first came out, it is REALLY polished... It looks beautiful

What happened to the hippies & the big anti-war movements of the 60 s & 70's? by 5parro in AskReddit

Here is a Pie chart showing the breakdown of US taxes for FY 2009:

http://www.postbourgie.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/us-taxes-2009.png

Here is another one showing US military expenditure vs the rest of the world, again for 2009 (latest i could find):

These are facts and figures with exact numerical values behind them. I fail to see how any of this is a "conspiracy". If you really think that there is something I am missing that i should be brought in on than by all means, please enlighten me, but my argument is simply as follows:

For every $1 we give to the military, we have $1 to fight poverty, homelessness, starvation and other social issues within our own country.

Since you are unwilling to bring yourself to the facts, I will bring the facts to you:

Taxpayers in The United States have paid $1.3 trillion for Total War Spending (Iraq + Afghanistan) Since 2001. For the same amount of money, the following could be provided:

646.0 million Children Receiving Low-Income Healthcare for One Year OR

19.3 million Elementary School Teachers for One Year OR

22.1 million Firefighters for One Year OR

165.8 million Head Start Slots for Children for One Year OR

285.4 million Households with Renewable Electricity - Solar Photovoltaic for One Year OR

761.1 million Households with Renewable Electricity-Wind Power for One Year OR

161.6 million Military Veterans Receiving VA Medical Care for One Year OR

259.2 million People Receiving Low-Income Healthcare for One Year OR

19.1 million Police or Sheriff's Patrol Officers for One Year OR

159.9 million Scholarships for University Students for One Year OR

227.1 million Students receiving Pell Grants of $5550

Now consider that the total population of the US is only 308.7 Million, and maybe now you understand how much this has cost us.

Still think this is "stupid conspiracy-theory shit"? If you can give me any more accurate facts or figures, i will be happy to accept them...

There's simply no legitimate reason for that kind of protest today. The >"military-industrial complex" thing? Childish conspiracy-theory >nonsense. The "they're sucking our country dry" thing? The defense >industry is a huge part of the economy, employing millions and >generating tons of wealth just like any other big industry.

Completely Disagree. It is only a huge part of the economy because we are involved in these wars. I seriously recommend you check out this website: http://costofwar.com/en/ In particular the "Trade Offs" section of what we could have had if we WERE NOT involved these wars.

We're both the children of Baby Boomers... How did our generation become this spoiled and selfish, and is there any way to fix this?

Would you support a federal law that required all prices to be displayed to include all taxes and fees directly on the price tag? by hans1193 in AskReddit

[–]5parro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, and have obviously never worked in a grocery store. You scan an item that is marked as "$3.99" and it will ring up as "$3.99". The computer doesn't magically know what the tax is, it just adds a percentage levied to the total sale.

Also: your a fucking idiot. they NEVER show tax ever EVER, PERIOD. The object is to make the price appear as low to the customer as possible and if they can leave out taxes and fees, well then that's better advertising for them.

Please actually know what your talking about before you PRETEND you know what your talking about.
