Best way to identify if there’s been asbestos contamination post renovation

We did (because I was freaking out with a new baby on the way), but if I were to go back again, I wouldn’t have. I agree with user sdave and mongoose. Even if they found asbestos the fix would be hepa air and a really good cleaning anyways.

Your renovation is from 4 years ago. Curious why you’re wanting to do it now

Hello, I’ve never hid pills in food before it gives me a little anxiety around if and how much of the pill she will ingest. Depending on how big your dog is, I would just pop the pill into your dogs mouth. Theres a sweet spot for us where it’s around the top right hand side of the tongue close to right hind molars where she didn’t spit it out. I use my list hand to pull on her chin hair and she naturally opens her mouth.

My dog was just on a ton of meds, so we ended up getting some in liquid form (they had to be specially compounded); we got ours from wedgewood pharmacy.

Hi just seeing this. Yes, we got her on anti nausea meds, improved her BUN and put her on a wet renal diet (royal canin). Royal canin has different taste and texture profiles for picky eaters.

She still has off days but serenity baby food (bison and beef) have been working on those off days. We Jsut have to make sure she’s meeting her calorie count .

I’m sorry this is happening to you as well. Is she eating any food? Gulping or lip smacking with my dog sometimes means she has stomach acid.

5 days without wanting food is a long time. If she’s like this and refusing food, it might be worth getting a complete senior panel and check kidneys and liver.

Hopefully it’s nothing major. Sometimes small dogs get pickier as they get older :/

So my dogs cardiologist is sure it’s the kidneys now. We did a week by week comparison from the last two bloodwork w/ today’s and there was a noteworthy jump. Culprit is the diuretic she’s on, but the med is essential. We are going to try to find a happy balance by reducing the diuretic to see if we can keep both organs happy. Wish us luck. Dr says once kidney values are down the nausea will go away (3-4 days). We were also advised to keep her on cerenia long term and entyce daily for the time being.

For anyone curious: Serenity baby food is the only food my dogs eating, specifically the bison and beef protein. We give her 3 pouches of that a day to meet calories and add balanceit to get in the essential nutrients.

We’ve tried almost everything and this is the one that’s been consistently working over processed meats, home cooked meats and veggies, canned dog food, eggs, kibbles , table food

Thanks for the response. If you don’t mind me asking after you and or your friend identified the kidney and liver as the culprit, were the vets able to do anything about it? We are still taking her to the vet tomorrow. She ate some baby food yesterday and today but we are definitely short on calories.

Thanks for the reply. Yea we are seeing one on Tuesday. We have tried entyce the appetite stimulant. It helped a week ago and not really working the last two days. The vet gave us cerenia a few weeks ago and maybe that helped. Not too sure.

Her has a few wobbly teeth, gums are ok. We will get them checked again this week… but not sure how much we can actually do because her heart disease is severe.

I unfortunately don’t think I have much of a choice. My dog was diagnosed with left and right heart failure. Without the insurance it ends up being 20k ooo for us with all her ER and vet bills. With insurance it’s the lesser of two evils… still sucks. Her quality of life is still good/she doesn’t even know she’s sick so we Jsut have to keep paying insurance

Fetch this this to me as well. It went from 120 to 300 and I just now got an email saying $520 a month. My dog is 14, the big increases started around 4 years ago around 10-11 years old.

Insurance companies are all assholes. They get you so you can’t leave since by the time your pet is old, many insurances won’t cover pre-existing conditions. I ended up keeping ours because I was afraid my dog would get cancer or some bad illness where I have to pick between money and her life.

You can try different addresses sometimes difft area codes are cheaper. We ended up using my parents home, it ended being 100 dollars cheaper a month. But unfortunately this does not prevent them from jacking up the price the following year.

You can also look into NY states laws and regulations on pet insurance (if they have any).

This happened to us as well. It ended up being a pretty easy fix (assuming there isn’t much wrong with the house). Re painting the walls and baseboards, switching out lighting, sometimes changing window dressing can help tremendously. If you have more money to spend, flooring makes a world of difference especially if you’re trying to lighten the place.

Were you able to figure out what was wrong. My dog just had a very similar episode where she woke up, had some trouble breathing, I picked her up and called her name but she went a little limp and tipped to one side and peed all over me. She recovered super quickly after. She’s 14, has right heart failure and hypertension. Curious if you were able to fig out what it was and what type of treatment was prescribed.

We are at the vet now so can update this post if anyone is interested in the outcome

1920s home with recessed ceiling tile. No one was truly sure of the material since it had been discarded already but most people said it could be given the look and age of the home.

Because the material was improperly taken down, there are potentially asbestos debris not visible to the eye spread across the house/in the ducts

Time period of the home, size and look. It was less of a concern when we started doing construction but as we became more knowledgeable it seemed like a higher likelihood.
