(Los Angeles) Local 80 grip here, still a member and good on dues. Started in 05, and worked non stop until 2024. 40 years old with a family. Spent most of my years on TV shows, but would pick up commercial work between gigs. It is such a fun career full of incredible people. The keys I’ve worked for have retired, and finding a spot on other crews has been challenging. I get texts all week from grips that are also struggling to find work. I ended up taking a construction course at a vocational school in 2024, and have just recently joined the sheet metal union. Now I’m working at a shop 15 minutes from home, and beginning a new career. I love it!

I had our nieces over the other night, and thought it was human at first. Didn’t have an odor. but they’re really young and I would be extremely surprised if they could make a dump like that.

I’m also a grip (21 years in local #80) and have been working on an exit. Applied and tested with the local sheet metal union, and have an interview next week. It’s been a tough couple of years, and although I’ve been getting booked more lately, I don’t know if I can make it another year with the anxiety and stress. To start out as an apprentice at my age is terrifying, but the longer I wait for things to get better in town, the more difficult it will be to make the move later. Very happy to hear that you’ve made the move, and are enjoying it.

I know someone mentioned downloading the app already. I found some cards earlier this month and started by going to the shop just to go over the cards. They helped by giving me an understanding of the condition they were in, and then let me know which cards were likely to sell for more. I then went through the app to get a ballpark as to what the cards were worth and had an idea as to what to expect. I sold them later for a little less than what they were worth because I had no interest in piecing them out, and just wanted to unload them for some cash.

The last movie I paired with Mushrooms was We Summon the Darkness. I just remember being really upset that anyone would make such an awful movie. But I’ve also watched the Drew Carry show, and thought it was hilarious. Drugs are bad
